”TK” was a multiple SAMA award-winning Mzansi R&B singer, arranger, and songwriter. In her lifetime she unquestionably occupied South Africa's R&B throne and was one of the country's prominent vocalists.

Sipho Gumede (1952-2004)
Legendary bass player who recorded 18 albums under his own name and four with his band Sakhile. He collaborated with various musicians such as Hugh Masekela and Brenda Fassie. In 2004, his album "Blues for My Mother" went platinum.

Sankomota is a band that was formed in Lesotho during the late 70s under the name Uhuru. However, during one of their tours, they were deported from South Africa because they were considered subversive. In 1984, they changed their name to Sankomota and recorded their first album.

Abdullah Ibrahim, the most distinguished South African pianist, was born in Cape Town on 9 October 1934. He is known for his outstanding piano skills and his legacy as a jazz pianist-composer. This year marks his 90th birthday and the start of a world tour.

Father Trevor Huddleston presented Hugh Masekela with his first trumpet in 1954, which he received from Louis 'Satchmo' Armstrong. He then requested Uncle Sauda, the leader of Johannesburg Native Municipal Brass Band, to teach Masekela the trumpet's fundamentals.

Bra Gibson Kente (1932-2004)
A multi-talented artist who pioneered the "township musical" during apartheid in South Africa. He wrote and performed plays that depicted life in the townships, and trained black actors and singers at a time when creativity was stifled by apartheid.
Neo Muyanga (b. Soweto) lives and works in Cape Town. Muyanga is a composer and sound artist whose work traverses new opera, jazz improvisation, Zulu and Sesotho idiomatic songs. He initially trained to sing in choirs in Soweto and learned madrigals in Italy in the 1990s.
