The Speaker of the New Zealand House of Representatives is the highest officer elected by the House. The position is third most important constitutionally, after the Governor-General and the Prime Minister.
Trevor Mallard is not fit to continue in this role.

Oh, so Ayesha Verrall and her department didn’t have $160 million worth of Rapid Antigen Test kits sitting in a warehouse expiring. No, it was actually $500 million worth, more than enough to build the third medical school at Waikato University! This government excels at waste.
Dear Prime Minister
The ideal of a “Team of Five Million” has worn so thin it’s now threadbare. If anything, your constant repetition is turning people off. Give us a break from your inane, patronising PR-speak.
It's interesting that some of the journalists who most fervently defended Jacinda Ardern from public attacks have gone all in on Wayne Brown in a particularly vehement way.
If Eliana Rubashkyn is NOT prosecuted for her pre-meditated common assault on Posie Parker, election candidates this year will need to carry lots of changes of clothing, because attacks on them with substances will have been legitimised. Are we ready for that New Zealand?
The full quote from Christopher Luxon: “We have become a very negative, wet, whiny, inward-looking country, and we have lost the plot, and we’ve got to get our mojo back.”
Let’s get our mojo back by changing the government 👍
I seldom agree with Winston Peters, but he asks a very salient question here; where’s the $14 billion gone Grant?
Winston Peters: What happened to the $14 billion Covid recovery money?
I hope whoever took this photo gets suitable recognition; it's a wonderful representation of the events of the weekend, with parallels to the immortal Iwo Jima image.
What’s in a name? Rebranding co-governance as “mahi tahi” changes nothing. It will still lead to one group of New Zealanders being given preference over other New Zealanders based on their ethnicity. And get this PM Hipkins; it’s not racist to call this out!
Mike Hosking has just interviewed an employment advocate for the Manurewa Marae whistleblowers and if there's even a shred of truth in what he said, TPM and Tarsh Kemp are in for a world of hurt.
We’re headed for a multi-billion dollar deficit, debt is out of control, Hawke’s Bay, Gisborne and Coromandel are crying out for government assistance to rebuild infrastructure and Nanaia Mahuta is giving away $19m to Asia. It’s time to

Newstalk ZB 6.30am news says that the extra four weeks of paid parental leave will be paid for “by the Government”.
Of course that’s not true. The extra four weeks will be paid for by the TAXPAYER.
One of Chris Hipkins’ first acts as PM should be to sack Nanaia Mahuta from Cabinet even if it risks his tenure ending. Will he? Jury’s out.
Three waters entrenchment: Papers reveal months of planning to entrench provision, and hidden meeting with Greens
Well blow me down; I thought Kiri Allan needed time off after she resigned to work on her mental health, not to start a business where she could leverage off her political contacts. What else haven't we been told?
Kiri Allan resigned as a Minister on 24 July. Two weeks later on 7 August, KLA Limited was incorporated - a consultancy and lobbying firm focused on policy review, stakeholder engagement and public relations.
I see Sting has cancelled his show at The Mission in Hawke's Bay. That's fine; Napier doesn't need Sting at the moment. But if only they could get The Police...
Dr Ayesha Verrall is one of the government's most senior Ministers. Posting absolute garbage like this does her or the Labour Party no credit whatsoever. I hope Labour's vote collapses and she is out of Parliament.
Remember just three weeks ago when Grant Robertson said there was no money for big election promises this year? Labour is going to promise the earth, even though we’re broke.
Kiri Allan's response to this, as reported by 1NEws, doesn't pass the sniff test. It's a huge conflict of interest for a Minister to accept donations from someone who reports to them.
Race Relations Commissioner donated thousands to Labour's Kiri Allan
This bit looks especially bad for Kiri Allan:
""I didn’t take any moneteary donations from Meng Foon," Allan said when asked today. However, the election return for 2020 shows a donation of $1500 from "M and Y Foon"."
Oh dear...
This is frightening. It’s not $35b that the govt is borrowing, it’s $35b MORE than was forecast. PREFU on 12 September is going to be brutal…

Lal's pronouncements about Christopher Luxon will likely lead to an boost to Luxon's popularity. The public is tiring of Lal being an expert on everything.

One of ZB's opinions for hire comments that Chris Luxon doesn't have "star quality". Quite frankly, NZ doesn't need star quality in a PM at the moment; we need someone who will get things done, and empower those they manage to get things done. Star quality is overrated!
How the heck can the

justify a polling booth in an activist facility when they have closed dozens of rural booths and made it for more difficult and expensive for rural voters to exercise their right to vote?
I’m sure the NZ Police will be great fun to this person for admitting an assault on state TV. it may “only” have been tomato juice, but it could just have easily been blood, or a harmful substance, like a corrosive. The pressure is now on the Police to prosecute.

Where was the Disinformation Project during the election campaign when Labour MPs from backbenchers to the Prime

The hypocrisy of a Labour Party troll berating National for using cool AI technology on the same day she posts something like this. Three cheers for Maria; hyp, hyp, hypocrisy!
The public has spoken, it would seem. And that’s what this debate was all about. One participant was composed, factual and prime ministerial, and the other was Chris Hipkins

If Kiri Allan was on mental health leave last week, as stated in the Herald story, why did she front opposition to National’s sentencing policies on Sunday? That makes no sense whatsoever; you’re either on mental health leave or you’re not…
Ginny Andersen is a shocker. She admits a "mistake" in a social media post about fees, then doubles down and tries to say that National and Act might still have that policy. She is just a complete and utter liar.

There's no such thing as a "free" dental clinic, or a free lunch for that matter. Someone has to pay for it, and in this case it's the long-suffering taxpayer.
The word out of Wellington is that Nanaia Mahuta won't be introducing the Three Waters legislation this year. Has the change of National leadership caused a rethink by Labour? Let's keep piling the pressure on them

I would have thought patients would have been grateful for the presence of a compassionate medical practitioner, especially those who were having to wait hours before even being unloaded from the ambulance. This is a snide political attack, and a non-story.
Dr Shane Reti has been accompanying ambulance crews all over the country as an observer. We asked whether that created privacy concerns for patients - full interview here:

Interesting that Clint portrays Clarke Gayford as a “private citizen”. So why did the musicians in the pharmacy believe that a “private citizen” could influence the pharmacist by convincing them the Ministry of Health regulations had changed? No Clint, no one’s buying that…
Chris Hipkins needs to take the Family and Sexual Violence Prevention portfolio off Mariana Davidson. Her statement yesterday was not only racist but it’s not supported by fact.
When Tame apparently embarrassed Luxon a few weeks ago, Q&A had the interview online within an hour. There’s a strong feeling Nicola Willis won the Finance debate today, but apart from one very brief clip, there’s nothing on social media. Why would that be, I wonder?
Constantly repeating the lie about tax cuts for landlords doesn’t make it any less of a lie. All the government has done is restore a legitimate business expense Labour took away.
Right now, National is using urgency to pass their Bill giving landlords $2.9 billion in tax cuts - while still choosing to completely ignore Māori. Watch

A must-read opinion-piece from Rachel Smalley. It's worth noting that many of Labour's female MP's think exactly the same as the Greens do, so Hipkins might have an even bigger problem than that to which Smalley alludes.
Greg must have been so busy praising Hipkins and Ardern that he failed to notice Climate Change Minister James Shaw was outside Cabinet for six long years.
Dr Verrall is being dishonest. People are being given dates for surgery and taken off the waiting list. But will they get their surgery on that date? Almost certainly not. Doctors are now phoning talkback and telling the truth about what’s happening.
