I imagine that inventing a TV felt somewhat similar. 🤯 Gaussian splatting video in VR, now running at 2x2224x2160 @ 100 FPS. iPhone's Spatial Videos simply can't compare, temporal flickering is there to remind your brain you're in VR! 🧵on performance, details, and next steps:

I had 4hrs free and made a quick port of MobileNERF to Metal. GPT-4 contributed orbital camera and guided on WebGL conventions differences. Runs 78FPS/2532x1170 on 13 Pro. I think I can do ~120FPS with few more hours. NERFs to become a commodity within few months, get ready

Two weeks worth of evenings and now my purely native OpenXR Vulkan renderer can run NERFs on Quest Pro. The performance is meh: ~25FPS @ 3600x1920, but it is completely unoptimized, it will get better. Thread about insights and the future of the project:

I just completed a splats inspired DX12/OpenXR particle demo that runs on both AMD and NVIDIA, with my 4090 running it at a whopping 2x2224x2160 @ 120 FPS I'm still processing the results, but the Quest 3/Vision Pro VR season is definitely going to be wild! [1/n]

Two weeks of progress with my VR video splats renderer: - Mastered screen-capture on Windows, no more phone-monitor things - Speed up by 2.5x, pushing into 250FPS territory at 2x2224x2160 - GPT-4 integrated ImGUI into OpenXR for me and wrote a hit-test, I can play & pause now!

Active cooling allows my optimized Metal NERF runner to stay at ~150 FPS at native 2560x1600 on my low-end 14” M1 Pro. With accidental pushes into 180FPS. It is so tempting to hit 200FPS with further tuning but I promised myself to stop.

Received surprising amount of “just implement UI then” takes. Feels like 3D people don’t really have a sense of complexity in modern UI frameworks. One can be entertained to learn how much money Apple/Meta has powered into UIKit/React or how many devs are building a single Uber…

@s1ddok In all seriousness though I'm not sure I understand the complaint? Surely if you've built a custom engine implementing UI should be no big deal, if your game needs UI then you should probably implement UI.

I just found out that SteamVR OpenXR runtime creates a very weirdly sized swapchains: 2x2508x2508. For comparison, Oculus OpenXR creates 2x2224x2160 for my Quest Pro. That may explain why so many people complain about SteamVR performance in OpenXR games.

after all my friends departed from Kazakhstan I’ve been living in a strict monk mode: collecting delivery boxes, coding and leaving home exclusively for the gym so today I decided to put on some insanely expensive crap just to have a breakfast outside

Госуслуги общаются со мной на уровне бывших одноклассников - переписка состоит только из односложных поздравлений "с др" раз в год, при этом тот факт, что в 19 году они забыли, а в 20-ом опоздали на день, лишь добавляет фактуры

I know you won't believe it but this video is a product of a few-lines of code bug in AVFoundation. This was not processed manually in any way. How cool is that?

@henrypearce4D was kind enough to not only provide the raw data, but also pre-convert it into COLMAP-style dataset, which saved me so much time! I hope they make this data publicly available for everybody, I'm sure it will meaningfully boost the research field.

Being 🇷🇺 today means being excluded from basically everything. While I am mostly aligned with this I had to renew my Apple Developer Membership to release a small project I've been preparing for the last few months as an act of escapism. Quest is completed.

Sardonyx is live on GitHub 🎉 This is my new (rather unexpected) project that generates Swift code out of ONNX models for Swift 4 TensorFlow (now) and Metal Performance Shaders (later) Few details in a thread [1/n]
