I just found one of my pay stubs from 2004. I truly do take home $5.72 less per week in 2022. I've had a total of $3.64 an hour in raises in 18 years. My health insurance has gone from 29.30 wk in 2004 to $266 wk in 2022. And that's also being forced from BCBS to Kaiser this year
I survived a murderous newsroom shooting in 2018, losing five of my Capital Gazette family. their families destroyed. My head was nearly shot off, multiple slugs missing by a fraction of an inch. This stuff makes me sick. We're your neighbors, family and friends doing our best.
I am okay physically, so far, mentally I am a mess. I was inside. I am lucky to be alive. Please pray for my coworkers who were not as lucky as I was. We lost some truly great people today. I am in shock trying to process this horrible situation. Thanks for all the kind thoughts.
Some folks need to learn the word empathy and start practicing it.
To the man I met yesterday this was devastating. He felt lost. His job gone. He was scared his way of life is gone.
So to him, not seeing the iconic Baltimore bridge was like not seeing WTC after 9/11.
EMPATHY.
I met a teary eyed 62 year old Port of Balt. worker today who said not seeing the Key Bridge in the skyline was like not seeing the Twin Towers in NYC after 9/11.

Often chasing the moon I'd look for angles that had the Key Bridge. A hard get because access to shoreline/moonrise position. One night sweet Luna appeared. Full Harvest Moon Oct. 2022.
I can't believe the bridge is gone now. Praying for those who may be lost or looking for them
My life has been changed forever. I suffer PTSD/Anxiety/Depression. I'm still doing my job as a photojournalist at the Capital Gazette newspapers. I'm proud to be a journalist and love my community. My project shows the lives affected by "Murder the Media"
Summerleigh, Phoenix, Winters and Montana Geimer lost their mother Wendi Winters. I heard it happen as I was hidden under a desk. She fought to save her coworkers. I had to see her on the ground as I ran from the gunman, before he shot at me.
@Tom_Winter
As a survivor of the Annapolis

newsroom murders I am glad to see the FBI taking these threats seriously and arresting those making them. Journalists are not "the enemy of the people", we are your siblings, parents, friends and neighbors, fellow humans. Be kind.
Maria Hiaasen's husband Rob Hiaasen, an editor at the paper and an awesome husband, father and friend was murdered at his desk across the row from me. He had three children as well that miss their dad.
Erica Fischman's husband Gerald Fischman was an editor and opinion writer, but he was also a husband father. Uka lost the man she called dad. He was also murdered at his desk, across from mine.
Rebecca Smith was murdered at the front of our newsroom. She was our Sales Assistant and receptionist. She was the first one to confront the murderer and the first one shot after he shot through the front glass door. She was 34. Her sister Cindi and her family are heartbroken.
Andrea Chamblee's husband John McNamara was a sports reporter. He loved Andrea and Maryland sports. He was murdered in the back of the office where other reporters were hidden under desks.
All politics aside, W's eulogy for his father, especially when he lost it, got me crying. Loss of family is hard. We're all humans and need to show each other compassion, empathy and kindness. I'm having an emotional day. Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle

I was rear ended once at a light after leaving a photo assignment. Very nice guy gets out of the car and when we exchange info he says "I follow you on twitter." I laughed and said you also followed me a little too closely on the road. We had a good laugh and it all worked out.

I barely survived a mass shooting. Many of my colleagues didn't. It's the most horrifying, traumatic experience of my life. It ruined me. I pray no one else experiences it.
I can't imagine making children live through these drills, not knowing if they are real
I'll never do one
Unannounced drills like these are traumatizing given that shootings regularly occur on school campuses. Going into lockdown and not knowing whether youβll survive the school day is a terrifying experience that no student should have to go through.
Del Bigtree, I survived a murderous mass shooting in my newsroom. My head nearly taken off by a shotgun blast, missing by an inch. Five Capital Gazette family members were killed around me.
Your thoughts/words are disgusting/inhuman.
No one should have such hate in their heart
Del Bigtree once again invoking the Holocaust at the antivaxx rally in D.C., using it to threaten journalists and Dr. Fauci.
"Unlike the Nuremberg Trials that only tried those doctors that destroyed the lives of those human beings, we're going to come after the press."
I've seen this movie a million times and every time I tear up at the end. Clarence's "One man's life touches so many others, when he's not there it leaves an awfully big hole." and "No man is a failure who has friends" are my favorite themes. Be kind to all and merry Christmas.

Call Jon Snow and rest of the Night's Watch, tonight's full super moon, called the Crow Moon rises over Sparrow's Point. Hope the White Walkers don't show up, winter is almost over. Cue the GoT theme song. (It's also called the Worm Moon, but that's not as much fun.)
I had a heart attack at some point this week. I think it was Monday, back pain started. I'm at the Kaiser Urgent Care now and will be moved to Baltimore Washington Med C later. I feel okay. Some discomfort, it's been like that all week. I'll let you know more later. Say a prayer.
Since I have been fairly open about my experiences in the

tragedy I wanted to let you all know I've have begun the steps to get counseling. The great folks who set up the Annapolis Cares program have me meeting a therapist this week sometime. Thank you.
Just to clarify for everyone. The Capital Gazette murderer got six life sentences today, five without a chance of parole, for Rob, Gerald, John, Wendi and Rebecca, but a sixth life sentence for my attempted murder. Plus an additional 345 years for other counts.
We will be having a moment of silence today at 2:33 PM for our fallen

My friend I survived a mass shooting, my head nearly shot off. This gentleman needed reassurance he was not alone. I left with him. We walked together talking about our lives. I'd been there with the cameras pointed at me. He needed someone with empathy to talk about it.
Thanks
So I just pulled a baby out a smoking car that took out tree in my front yard. Driver may have a broken arm, but babies seem okay. What else can happen today? It was pretty scary. I though it was going to completely go up in flames any second

These are my three favorite Rob Hiaasen photographs I captured in our time working together at the Capital Gazette. He was a mentor to many a writer and a fine journalist. I'm sorry new generations of reporters will not get his guidance.
I Tweeted this June 27, 2018. The next day five of these great people would be murdered for being journalists. I came within an inch of having my head shot off.
