Remembering this lovely lady, my wife Liz who passed away 10 yrs ago today due to a brain tumour.
Blessings on those who treated and cared for her, and blessings on those who continue to treat and care for cancer patients.
#RIPLiz
Just one other observation from today - if Justin Tipuric’s 1st try has been scored by Wales in the 70’s it would have entered into Welsh Rugby folklore.
We should enjoy and admire Tips while we can because I don’t think we’ll see his like again for a very long time.
Remembering this lovely lady - my late wife Liz who died of a secondary brain tumour (Cancer Unknown Primary) 9 yrs ago tonight.
She was 1 in a million as a person, and 1 of a million reasons why we should fund the good fight against cancer.
Remembering this lovely lady - my wife Liz who passed away 13 years ago today aged 48, exactly 7 weeks after being diagnosed with a brain tumour.
Always remembered, never forgotten by my daughter Bryony and me. 🙏
Allegedly overheard at 6 Nations launch today:
Eddie J : I dreamt that Heaven were playing Earth and God made me coach of Earth XV.
Owen Farrell: I dreamt that too - God made me captain of Earth XV
Alun-Wyn J : I had that dream too - I don't remember giving you two a job 😉🏴
Hi
@owen_faz
, I’m a proud Welshman who’s been involved in our great game as fan, player, teacher, coach and broadcaster for over 50 yrs and I just wanted to say how lovely it was to see you congratulate
@Sheedy95
after his final conversion.
The spirit of rugby personified 👍
Delighted today that at the age of 61, and after 30 yrs as a freelancer, I’ll be doing full commentary on a Wales international for the very first time.
I’m a 30 years of hard graft overnight success. 😉
Dyfal donc a dyr y garreg. 🇿🇦🏉🏴
Gutted as a Welshman but as a rugby man I have to say that is a great result for the Six Nations and for rugby itself.
Massive congrats to Italy who were the better side and thoroughly deserved the win. 👍🏉🇮🇹
Moretti it is then. 🍺
Sad to say that after 14 yrs, my stint as
@BBCScrumV
pitchside reporter has finally come to an end. 😢
It's been an absolute privilege to have worked with such a brilliant team for so long 👍
Happy to say I'll still be involved in
@BBCSportWales
rugby coverage in other ways😀
The Wales captain showing the living meaning of the phrase:
"It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice."
Humanity and kindness personified.
No matter who started or who finished they both played their part in a huge victory along with every other player who did the red jersey proud today🏴🏴🏴🏴
This decision sadly shows that any claims the authorities had with regards to improved player welfare, can now firmly be dismissed as completely bogus.
A bleak and disturbing day for rugby.☹️
Much has been documented about Warren Gatland’s great contribution to the Welsh team.
Equally his unheralded and unpaid efforts off the field for numerous charities, good causes and grass roots clubs, many of which I’ve seen at 1st hand should also be lauded.
Diolch Warren.
Just witnessed something I’ve never ever seen in hundreds of Welsh rugby club dinners.
@AbercwmboiRFC
most improved player Josh Richards presented with his award on face time cos he’s on a tag and he couldn’t miss his curfew.
Great rugby humour. 😀

Amid all the celebrations of a fantastic Wales ‘Triple Crown’, as a rugby lover, it was lovely to see Owen Farrell congratulate Callum Sheedy after his conversion of the Cory Hill try.
It’s why I’ve loved the game for 50 yrs. 🏴🏴🏉👍
If The Six Nations grant Amazon the next TV Rights with this picture quality, they will be short-changing their viewers, debasing the tournament and demeaning the game of rugby. 😡
7 yeas ago today I married the lovely Kate - which as I remind myself daily, rhymes with, 'punching above my weight.'
We went on the Lions Tour as a honeymoon.
And for those of you wondering how I managed to swing that, well, Kate loves rugby and I'm all heart. 😉
American shop assistant to Mrs S in Bloomingdale’s New York yesterday:
“Where are you from Madam?”
Mrs S: “Wales”
Assistant: “Oh I know Wales - I love Nigel Owens!”
Tom Jones, Anthony Hopkins, Shirley Bassey, Gareth Bale, Catherine Zeta Jones - you took a hell of a beating!🏴

Now that BBC has lost live Pro14 matches I'd love to see them cover The Welsh Premiership live.
Traditional rivalries, lots of tries and great characters and behind the scenes stories.
Would be a massive boost to the club game.

Congrats to
@WelshRugbyUnion
Women who came back from 14-5 and 19-10 down to gain a terrific 27-19 bonus point win over Ireland at The RDS.
What a superb start to the professional era for Wales! 🏉🏴

Wales, you know - Geraint Thomas.
Ah, yes - that Wales! 🏴
Thanks to all for kind birthday messages today - sorry I didn’t get round to replying to all.
I’m so grateful to reach 60 when I’ve heard of so many friends and colleagues who have passed away over the past few years.

Such sad news.
Eddie was a fine player and a fabulous broadcaster across several different genres with his intelligence and insight.
He was delightful company with his dry wit and his love of a humorous anecdote.
He was also always ready to offer help and advice. RIP 🙏
So very sad to hear of the death of Matthew J Watkins.
A very fine player and lovely man who bore his illness with great fortitude and dignity.
Thoughts with his loved ones.
#RIPMJ
🙏
So sad to hear about the death of Phil Bennett.
It goes without saying that his rugby achievements were legendary.
But more importantly he was just the nicest, most humble and genuine man you could ever wish to meet.
Thoughts with Pat and the boys. 🙏

Exactly 12 years ago to this very night, and exactly 2 yrs and 164 days after I had been widowed with the loss of my wife Liz at the age of 48, I met this lovely lady.
My wife Kate. It was the very definition of Christmas coming early. 🥂❤️
After the game I remember seeing an England fan fling a brand new England shirt, still in its plastic bag, on the street in disgust.
I’m ashamed to say I waited until he had gone, then went and picked it up and kept it.
After all, plastic bags cost 5p.

I’m not going to make any comment on the England - France game.
But just to let you know that tonight I’ll be going to bed at 7 minutes to 11 - or 10:53 😉

Poignant evening - last

live Pro 14 game tonight. It’s been a privilege and more importantly, great fun over the past 14 yrs.
Thank you to all for kind messages.
Eddie Jones: I saw God in a dream last night. He said we'll beat 🇮🇹, 🇮🇪 to draw with 🇫🇷, so 🏴 will win 6N
Andy FarrelI: I had that dream too. God said we'll beat 🇫🇷, 🏴 to draw with 🇮🇹 so 🇮🇪 win 6N.

The ‘Iceman’ is here to stayeth.
It’s self evident that Wayne Pivac’s tenure as Wales was not a success (though he did win a 6N + a first victory in SA).
That said, I always found him a helpful, courteous and engaging guy who also did a lot of unheralded charity work.
I for one wish him well for the future. 👍
Such sad and shocking news - probably, like you, I thought JPR would live for ever as he seemed so indestructible.
Part of my childhood gone. 🏉
Condolences to John’s loved ones.

Bridgend Ravens are devastated to announce the passing of JPR Williams.
One of Bridgend's most decorated players and an icon of World rugby, JPR served the club most recently as Club President.
Our thoughts are with JPR's family and friends at this sad time 💙

Just thought I’d give a reminder of my annual 6 Nations exhortation:
There are 3 types of people in this life:

Those with no ambition 😉
Ymlaen Cymru! 🏴
Best wishes to Tom James who has taken the first, bravest and most important step to recovery in acknowledging that he is contending with a bout of depression.
Full marks to
@cardiff_blues
for their sensitive and supportive handling of the situation.
Rare Friday night off tonight so out to celebrate the 6th anniversary of my wedding to my lovely Kate - which of course rhymes with "punching above my weight." 😉
Congrats Wayne Pivac and team - though you’ve just added another 1 million people in Wales to the “vulnerable” category for the COVID Vaccine due to raised blood pressure.!🏴👍
Two of the items on my Welsh sporting bucket list since I was a kid growing up in Cardiff in the 60’s were to live long enough to see
@GlamCricket
win a One Day Final and to see
@FAWales
make it to a World Cup.
Both have occurred in the past 12 months. I was 61 on Friday

When Mrs S suggested going on a break somewhere “over The Bridge” I didn’t think she meant The Brooklyn Bridge!

Just taken an early morning walk along St Mary’s Street and saw 3 lads wearing England shirts playing an impromptu game of rugby with a mannequin from a shop window.
I was about to call the shop manager when the mannequin went over for 2 tries. 😉
A hugely deserved win for SA - England never got off the bus.
Reflects great credit on Wales’ efforts in the semi final.
Sets up The Lions Tour in 2021 superbly
To see a man of colour lifting the trophy for The Rainbow Nation was both incredibly moving and uplifting.
Off to counselling today to help me to come to terms with the fact that I hope England beat France tomorrow as it would enhance Wales’ chances of winning the 6N. 🏴🤭

A great game of rugby.
Congratulations to France, but we’ll done both sides on a wonderful match which had everything.
Disappointing as it was for Wales, Wayne Pivac and his team deserve much credit for giving us such a great ride this 6N.
Cymru am byth. 🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴
Gutted for Wales but sincere congrats to
@unionargentina
- who deserved the win as they asphyxiated us in the 2nd half.
Good luck + thanks to Dan Biggar for all he has done for Wales.
But for perspective, with all else going on in the world- it was a game of rugby. 🏉🏴🇦🇷🙏
Having lost a sister to alcoholism when she was 37 I wouldnt describe her as a 'coward'.
She simply succumbed to an illness for which she didn't have the ability to cope.
In her own way she showed amazing courage to go on living for as long as she did.
From 4 - 6 pm tonight my direct messages are open.

Thanks to Nigel for giving his time for this. He also spent the first bit of half time refereeing the mini rugby game for the children before even going into his changing room - what a fabulous experience for those kids.
A fantastic ambassador for rugby.
Happiness and contentment is being out in Cardiff for a glass of wine with Mrs S and the greatest player I ever played against comes up, says hello and calls me by my first name.
#Holmesy
My thoughts on this are those of sadness for a decent bloke and a fine rugby man who probably needs professional help.
I sincerely hope that rugby stands by him rather than castigating him.
Congrats France - worthy winners of the Grand Slam. 🏉🏆
Of all their matches Wales got closest to beating them.
Therefore Wales have to be considered the runners up in the championship.
If Carlsberg did rugby analysis..….(and straw clutching)
The look of surprised delight on the face of the Corfu bus driver tonight when I said “Cheers Drive” suggests to me that the phrase should be considered alongside the use of Tom Jones, Gareth Bale and Geraint Thomas as the signature of being Welsh abroad.
#WhereYouFromDrive
I just loved the look of incredulity on the faces of the other passengers on the number 65 bus to Richmond when I said “Cheers drive!” as we got off. 😂🏴🏉
Wales and British and Irish Lions great JJ Williams has died at the age of 72.
He scored 12 tries in 30 Tests as Wales won four Five Nations titles, including two Grand Slams, during the 1970s.
More:
Ray Gravell - player, broadcaster, actor, patriot and family man left us 15 years ago today.
Always greeted me with, “Phil Steele - not a bad full back, not a f*****g good one” and made it feel like a term of endearment.

Fabulous game - the best of the RWC so far. 👍

I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say that today is the most important day in the history of Welsh rugby.
I hope The WRU does the right thing and acts in the best interests of its most vital asset - the players. 🏉
Just been talking to a guy from Devon and asked him if he’s looking forward to the game.
“Not really I can’t believe Eddie J has only picked one player from Exeter Chiefs!”
I said “I know how you feel Butt, I can’t believe Gatland has only picked 2 players from Bancyfelin!” 😉
Thoughts with Tom.
I can empathise with the trepidation the dark winter nights bring from when I became a widower at 14 yrs ago.
