I am so happy for all 1000 filmmakers who collaborated on
#AcrossTheSpiderVerse
. You all put so much love into this movie and everyone feels it. Take a bow!
We all worked hard to keep Miles at the center of our movie. Camera and soundtrack stay close to him. Other Spiders are there to support his story. The movie starts and ends with Miles. First we’re looking at him, by the end he’s looking at us. We’re in his head. And he in ours.
So here is the “storywheel” of
@SpiderVerse
. We did a big shakeup of the story less than a year from release and we had to figure out how to reshape sequences we had already boarded and animated and fold them in with new stuff. Oh and we rebroke the whole third act.
not sure I get how people who profess to love movies want to spend any energy slagging the people who make them. Every filmmaker I know works their ass off to make something great. When a movie falls short, it's important to remember it happens to the best of us.
Shout out to the artistry of the
#SpiderVerse
animation team... this was a MASSIVE undertaking and Alan Hawkins, the leads, and MANY MORE were grinding up until the buzzer, melding incredible levels of expressiveness and ingenuity, acute observation and playfulness in every shot.…

does not attempt to replicate the success of its predecessor. It aims to elevate, expand, and reinvent this franchise and the medium of animation in general."

Congratulations Mitchells Vs Machines filmmaking family. Really proud of how much love you poured into it… and how much people have gotten out of it ❤️
Art isn’t a zero sum game. If you make some art, there’s not less art for me to make. When a colleague makes something, even if I don’t get it (or if I do, and I’m jealous) how I try to feel is “Hooray! More Art!” bc I know how hard it is to make new things, and how important.
When an animated film is great, why is it almost always referred to as “one of the best ANIMATED films of the year” rather than one of the best films of the year, period? Why the qualifier when people have enjoyed the film as much or more than its live action counterparts?
These guys started a studio in their dorm room and they have made artists out of thin air in their backyard ever since. Incredible legacy that will last generations.
Kilkenny. 1999. A trio of filmmakers created an Irish animation studio that went on to become a multi-award-winning powerhouse.

friends! if you get to the theater early and you want a fun mission ask someone to check that the theater volume is set at reference (7)! If it sounds a bit quiet, invite them to turn it up a touch to 7.5! If they give you flack... tell them we said it was okay.

Loving the outpouring of love and joy and passion and appreciation of
#SpiderVerse
- it warms my heart!
But there’s no need to put down other films while celebrating this one. Let’s ride this positive feeling!
Make films. Make a lot. Make them with friends. Don’t worry if they’re bad. Make them about something. Anything. And make them with love. The difference between us and you is time.
It's clear in my heart that SPIDER-MAN's all-star team will expand the revolution it started. Pushing- again- the boundaries and power of animation as a medium. But it will also show that risks and creativity maximize audiences and Cinema. Magnificent!!
A teen who organized a Black Lives Matter rally in her northern New Jersey town said she has been sent a $2,500 bill from the mayor “for the police overtime caused by your protest.”
Guess what? There were tons of great animated films this year. Diverse and specific and filled with joy and originality. Whatever happens with awards season the state of animation is strong.
THREAD: Anybody have a favorite bit of water animation?
The best for me might be Disney’s PINOCCHIO from back in 1940. Amazing mix of stunning realism and painterly abstraction. You could only get a look like this in animation.
Well.

is a masterpiece. An instant classic. Quietly incendiary, riotously joyous, hysterically funny and absolutely vital. Screw
