On yesterdayโs ride I was passed 3 times by lorries from the same company (Farrell Transport) and each one was textbook and safe๐๐ผ
I dropped them an email to say it was noticed and appreciated as it doesnโt happen much these days ๐
Great news for me ๐ฅ but really bad news for sportsmanship ๐
The below happened because a fellow competitor cheated.
She travelled in a car for around 2.5 miles of the M2L 50 mile event last week.
After an investigation, she has now been DQโd, and rightly so. ๐งต
8 hours on a training course entitled โhow to manage stress at workโ today. ๐ซ
90 mins on my bike this evening beats anything I learnt in that 8 hours ๐ด๐ผโโ๏ธ
99.25 miles in total.
14758ft of elevation.
5 days.
0 midge bites.
100โs of amazing views.
Solo hike of the West Highland Way completed. ๐๐๐ฝ
What a race!
110 miles along the Pennine Way in 32 hours.
Battered by a thunderstorm overnight, a mug of tea at Malham then a death march over the cam high road to the finish.
Would I do it again? Absolutely!!
Mel Sykes has arrived in Hardraw as the winner of the Montane Summer Spine Challenger South.
Sheโs arrived with an almighty lead over her closest rival after an extremely tenacious performance throughout a difficult night and day todayโฆ

Chatted to a lovely older bloke at Win Hill who offered to take my photo.
Him: โDo you want to check itโ
Me: โOh, no. Iโm sure itโll be greatโ
Art. ๐๐ผ
Well, thatโs me registered for tomorrows

Last weekend the organiser of Holme Moss Hill Climb replied โbecause they donโt contribute anything to the sportโ when asked why the womenโs prizes werenโt equal to the menโs!
If you have second please sign the following petition to stop this happening
The thing I love about
@Strava
flybys is looking up guys like this ๐๐ผ. Instead of giving way at the roundabout he sprinted out to get infront of me, died into the headwind, then completely ignored me when I went past.
Never gets old ๐
Had my decompression surgery at the brilliant
@LeedsHospitals
11 days ago, and today is the day I get my staples removed.
The past 11 days have been a bit rough but that was to be expected.
Onwards and upwards.
Forever grateful for our

Somehow all this (plus my clothes) managed to fit in my backpack. Iโve no idea how much it weighs ๐ณ
Canโt wait to start the West Highland Way tomorrow.
Nowโs the time to mute me if you donโt wanna see mountain pictures all week! ๐
Ironman Copenhagen.
Run ๐๐ผโโ๏ธ
26.2 miles of a 4 lap course in the city centre. Made use of every aid station necking double shots of cola as it was hot ๐ฅต
Had to grind out the last 10km to get that medal ๐ช๐ฝ
The temp dropped to 0 last night. I wore every item of clothing I had, but was still shivering in the tent.
The change in temp makes for great mornings though ๐
Good people ๐
Lost
@R08BO
โs Garmin on Saturday.
A lovely old couple found it on the street and their son contacted
@GarminUK
who emailed to say it had been found.
We swapped addresses and the couple have just called at my house to return it.
๐
I bloody love this silly little hobby of mine! ๐ฅฐ
Ran 49.5 miles in the sunshine from Manchester to Liverpool this morning
@L2MUltra
.
Superb organisation and loads of fun.
2 month stapled head progress!
Oct, Nov and today.
Quite liked the undercut and that new little tuft of hair thatโs growing is so soft!!
Grateful to the surgeon and for the fact that recovery is going so well. ๐ฅฐ
Had the best time in Mallorca, just me, a bike, some hills and the odd cafe stop.
Thereโs a lot to be said for solo, mini adventures, doing what you love. Feel like Iโve pressed a reset button ๐ด๐ผโโ๏ธโ๏ธ๐๐
1st lady and (I think) 6th overall ๐คฏ at the Derwentwater Dawdle this morning. Such a great event with some killer ascents. Conditions were perfect, as was the post race pie. Thanks
@AscendRuns

What an event!!
2nd lady๐ฅat Saddleworth 10 Resโ this morning.
Just over 26 miles with 4500ft of Pennine moorland in wonderful conditions.
Properly good fun ๐
The Lakeland 50.
50 miles.
10,000ft.
Changeable weather. โ๏ธ
This years theme was Yellowstone so we got a giant finishers buckle.
An absolute blast ๐
Lakesman 70.3 triathlon was just the best. ๐ฅฐ
Great people and a lovely place to do an event.
Finished in 5:12 and 12th female.
A brill day spent with some top people.
Running again!
A few jog/walks last week then today a non stop run along the canal.
As part of my op they removed a 50p sized section of my skull and also my C1 vertebrae to free up some space ๐คฏ so Iโve been working hard on neck exercises to strengthen everything up.
Happy to finally be able to announce the latest addition to the Sykes family.
Mon 12th of April
18:04pm.
Weight: 11kgs
Thanks to all involved for making the delivery quick and painless.
I couldnโt be more in love

My favourite run loop heads up onto the Pennine Way out of Marsden and (because I love a routine) I used to run it at least once a week.
Today, for the first time since August, I made it round it again ๐ฅฐ
Heading home from my little solo holiday that has been spent cycling around Mallorca.
I know itโs not everyoneโs idea of a relaxing break, but I bloody love it ๐
Bikes. Sunshine. Cafes. Hills ๐๐ผ
The Lakeland 50 ๐
What an event.
Finished in 10:03
My kinda race conditions with rain almost all day. ๐๐ผ
Absolute loved it. A brilliant weekend with wonderful people ๐ฅฐ
Thereโs 10 points on offer for anyone that can guess which part of my bike
@R08BO
has left in his garage back at home.
Anyone?!? ๐คฆ๐ผโโ๏ธ๐ข
I love mini eggs.
One of my friends knows I love mini eggs and for the past few years each time Iโve had a good run heโs sent โwell doneโ mini eggs.
As the races get longer the amount of โwell doneโ mini eggs increases.
Today my Spine mini eggs arrived:
3KGS OF THEM!!
Was put off ever wearing orange after a lad at high school spent 5 years being called โTangoโ for wearing a bright orange jacket in the first week!! ๐
Today I went for a Tango jersey. ๐
Standard kit I take even for short runs up on the moors and along the Pennine Way.
Survival bag, first aid, trousers, gloves.
Itโs a different climate up there some days. No matter what the forecast says. ๐๐ผ
Got registered and also got the most important fuelling sorted.
Heading off tomorrow at 6am for 47 miles and 8500ft around Windermere. First taste of some ultra running ๐
Yesterday I tackled the famous
@3PeaksRaceInov8
.
24 miles/5300ft of ascent.
Planned to take it easy but humid conditions and checkpoint cut offs made for a tough day out.
Will absolutely be back though. One of the best events Iโve ever done. ๐๏ธ๐๏ธ๐๏ธ
I had such a great day yesterday.
3rd lady at The Lap ultra around Windermere. ๐ฅ
A lovely route with ascents of Loughrigg (first photo) and Wansfell (3rd photo).
Highly recommended ๐๐ผ
Back home after a brilliant 5 days volunteering at
@TheSpineRace
in Hawes.
Tiring work with minimal sleep, but ever so rewarding.
Helping people reach goals, listening to their stories and providing hugs when needed.
What a team ๐ฅฐ
Headed back to Leeds this afternoon for my review with the neurosurgery team that looked after me in October.
Was great to see the surgeon and thank him, although it doesnโt seem enough for what they did for me.
All signed off โ
I finished 2nd lady at the brilliant Five Trigs fell race this morning.
Super conditions and a tough course across the moors. Even got my favourite Easter egg as a prize!!!
What a lovely event
@CraggRunner
๐๐ผ
Absolutely blown away by the messages, people out on the route, and the dot watchers. My parents had rallied the troops to the Wessenden crossing and then so many other people popping up along the route.
Grateful of it all ๐ฅฐ
Another win for recovery.
The surgeon thought cycling would be a no go now Iโve a vertebrae less, but Iโve had no bother at all this week (apart from lacking bike fitness ๐).
Hire bike taken back and time to head home.
Ouch!
32 miles in the Lakes.
The Buttermere to Dalemain section of the Lakeland 100 route.
Iโm in for the 50 this year, but after today the 100 is tempting for 2024 ๐ฎ
