Fighting to Breathe arrived today and I cannot THANK enough people
@BaltimoreSouth
@FreeYourVoiceSB
@PNicoleking
and Lawrence Brown! This was a collective labor of love for our movement, for the fight for healthier and more sustainable communities!THANKS to kate Marshall
@ucpress
I urge us on the Left to be way more critical of Morales and simultaneously call out the derecha in Bolivia ... this is not a simplistic dichotomy here! People in Bolivia (in El Alto) on the streets are saying MAS is to blame and they are burning buses and homes ...
This is the most beautiful tribute EVER
@redemmas
we could not create the movement we have nurtured without your support! Y’all have built the ecosystem for solidarity economics in Baltimore! Y’all have opened your home to organizers to activists and to freedom fighters.
All the anthropologists here should have left the conference like at the ASA and joined the Toronto rally organized by Palestinian youth movement
@palyouthmvmt
in front of the US embassy. Beautiful rally and March. Performative politics doesn’t work. We need radical actions!!!!
I am crying this morning. It is just so heartbreaking 💔 I am so deeply saddened for these families !And everywhere you go it is THE POOR, the workers, and the laborers who are hit the hardest who suffer consequences of corporate negligence AND then the state abandons them.
Everyone should go see Riotsville USA
@stschrader1
bravo 👏 the archival footage simply amazing of fake towns built for police training … the narration and analysis so astute gives real insight into long history of hyper militarization and multiple wars on poor, Black Americans.
Higher education as we knew it is collapsing which means faculty should be prepared to take their knowledge and ideas to the streets or sit in your ivory tower office while it burns to the ground 🔥🔥
So excited to host
@dereckapurnell
at Towson tomorrow night! She will be in conversation with Dustin Gibson and Bilphena Yahwon. Free and open to the public. Come join us at university union 324 @ 6:30 pm.
Nicole Fabricant presents "Fighting to Breathe: Race, Toxicity, and the Rise of Youth Activism in Baltimore" in conversation with Lawrence Brown and Shashawnda Campbell withfriends BOOK LAUNCH
@redemmas
next Saturday 🥰
Soooo excited to have
@KateAronoff
Skype into my water class to talk to my freshman about the Green New Deal! These youngsters are all fired up!
#GreenNewDeal
So I had a student in my office the other day she was looking around at all my posters from social movements in US, from Cuba and from Bolivia and she said “Dr Fab are you a socialist??” And then she said “Me too and I’m voting for
@BernieSanders
!”
Today is my comrade and dear friends
@BmoreDoc
birthday! He has been in struggle with us for more than a decade! His book has changed the narrative of Baltimore and Black Butterfly 🦋 images painted across buildings! Wish him a HUGE happy birthday filled with revolutionary love!
Sitting by a fire last night talking to
@llchristyll
about how nervous I was about the Bolivian elections. Voter suppression, rightwing violence BUT once again 🇧🇴 Bolivia never ceases to amaze me! Part of my 20 year love affair w this country! ❤️💪🏽🙌🏼
We went into tax payer night highly aware of the undemocratic structure of governance in Baltimore
We demanded new PILOT agreements with anchor institutions to fund community wealth generation for Black Butterfly 🦋 communities ✊🏼❤️💙Baltimore movement folks are BAD ASS
Critics say that
@GovLarryHogan
can’t call himself a moderate if he supports policies backed by the Koch Brothers and Donald Trump

knows that she lives her politics, she has carried us through all sorts of CRISES and got us to the other side. She never compromised her character and integrity. She stands for JUSTICE and works to create change inside&out of academy
Huuuuge shout out to
@jaisalnoor
he is always out there at community protests as a guerrillero journalist covering the war on poor Black residents, collective land rights, and solidarity economics (co operatives)!We love his journalism! Thank God for
@TheRealNews
This is totally unacceptable
@mayorbcyoung
has sold out and again we are learning about closed door deals! He basically said “I don’t care about all the residents of Baltimore breathing toxic air!” All the kids in our city unable to breathe with asthma pumps because of this!
So Mayor Young is working with RESCO incinerator in a closed door deal to renegotiate their contract before he leaves office in December. If this happens, we’re doomed.
This is climate chaos! No one seems to care but all our cities will be flooded and under water! No
More snow days … we have torrential rain and flooding days
#ClimateActionNow
I'd LOVE to see these cops ask for IDs in Roland Park, Guilford area! This is a part of a long history of racism and segregation in Baltimore!
#FreeWestBaltimore
So what would it take to allow people to remain in their historic homes Poppleton? We are tired of Black families being displaced by private developers in this city! We want justice for residents and we want community led development!
I am aware of the situation in Poppleton and have directed the Acting Housing Commissioner to engage area residents and the developer in dialogue around these concerns, which stem from a legal agreement the City entered into two decades ago. (1/2)
#SavePoppleton
block party was a huge success! Wonderful work organizing an evening of speeches, music, food and communal resilience! Really proud of
@organizepopple1
Leith Mullings is my anthropological hero ... one of those superheroes without a cape! I got the chance to meet her and take her to dinner in Baltimore ... my heart is heavy ❤️
RIP Leith Mullings anthropologist extraordinaire. Leith mentored generations of bipoc anthros
@GC_CUNY
& beyond & was a model of engaged scholarship. Her last work on comparative racisms across the Americas is a necessary read for all. Huge loss.
Heather Hax & I wrote this piece for Democracy Collaborative, Next System on Baltimore's First Fair Development Zero Waste initiative. Thanks
@johannabozuwa
for pushing this forward! The nation’s first “fair development” zero waste plan
@TheNextSystem
My old man was arrested again yesterday over the GOP Tax Bill !!! Seriously hats off to my nearly 70 year old father !!!
@PSC_CUNY
radicals are impressive! I hope they are training a new generation of guerrilleros!
My dad is 72 and still getting arrested and still fighting for racial, economic and social justice !!! Fighting to save
#CUNY
as a space for public higher ed FOR ALL! May we all fight like HELL 💪🏽 fight like THIS old man in his 70s and fight like our lives depend upon it!
We want a mayor who invests in Black communities, invests in public education of our children, a mayor who will support the building of Rec centers, green spaces in Poppleton. We want people to stay in their homes; community-led “development” not demolition and displacement !
Baltimore
@redemmas
new space is incredible !!!! Tonight we got to hear
@baynardwoods
talk about Inheritance and i am so lucky and honored to be in a city like Baltimore and surrounded by such kick ass thinkers, journalists and activists! Viva Red Emmas!
Let’s goooooo Baltimore 💜🖤💜🖤we need this so badly! I hate football and I hate the damn Super Bowl the center of capitalist accumulation but I want this for our beautiful city 💜🖤💜🖤
Please mark your calendars for an exciting event on Nov 17th at 5:30 pm
@NACLA
and
@CLACS_NYU
team up to bring you “Bolivia’s Electoral Victory: what challenges lie ahead for MAS?”
This semester has been the hardest of my 11 years of teaching …BUT this crew is THE reason why I keep going! Mentoring THESE women (fierce, politically engaged, determined and BOLD) is what keeps me going ❤️💪🏾
After teaching about the history of Native Americans (using artifacts found at sites in Maryland) to second graders, I realized the work we do in higher ed needs to be done in K thru 8 ... they get inequality and injustice! they would be way more prepared for college ...
All I want for Christmas is a Green New Deal, climate action, and investments in public education, healthcare, and our social sector! 🎄May we continue to fight for a future for our children!
So excited to work with this kick ass crew
@marisollebron
and
@bretgustafson
… we will make sure
@NACLA
continues to do cutting edge Left journalism of the region and we are all looking forward to birthing new ideas and creative projects for
@NACLA
in this next phase!
As we kick off our end of year campaign, we’re thrilled to also introduce our new leadership. Beginning in 2022, longtime Naclistas Nicole Fabricant, Bret Gustafson, and Marisol LeBrón will serve as NACLA’s executive editors in an exciting new collaborative leadership model.
@OSilvermanA
Morales and MAS have a long history of using repressive arm of state against indigenous peoples. They have built a highly undemocratic & machista caudillista regime ... violated environmental pacts. We need to be savvy in our analyses ... this is not simply right versus left.
I just want to give a HUGGGEEE shoutout to
@NACLA
the very best US coverage of Latin America hands down! I’m so lucky and honored to work with such a talented and committed group of people
@HeatherGies
@psskow
and David Pastor ❤️ and
@jonevins1
is the best co editor!
This is what a new conference model can look like
#AAABaltimore2021
this is how we could be energized, held accountable and excited to get out and fight! This is what knowledge in a radical bookstore looks like … maybe
@AmericanAnthro
should adopt a new model! It’s about time
Like everyone else in Baltimore I cannot put
@baynardwoods
and
@notrivia
‘s book down! This is a page turner and it illustrates the hundreds of hours and months of editing. The story line is just marvelous! Thank you for this gem and for your commitment to justice!
It is great to see Hopkins students FINALLY mobilized against the beast. However, I must SAY there are everyday battles folks like
@LBSBaltimore
@AlgebraProject
@unitedworkers
@HONBaltimore
have been IN for years in Baltimore & on frontlines and don’t get same media attention!!
Thank you
@ievaju
and Kate Marshall
@ucpress
for all your love and support! Kate Marshall finds authors, helps shape narrative structure & future book projects and remains an incredible interlocutor. Love this dynamic duo!
Why we need to change legislation in state of MD
@JoshClarkDavis
1. Everyone deserves a right to unionize esp grad students, staff and faculty
2. Collective bargaining is not UNIONIZATION
4. We can begin to reclaim our public higher education schools for the PUBLIC!
Thank you
@DemSocialists
Join us at a rally — this Wednesday, Nov. 30th at 3:30 PM — to hold CSX accountable for their environmental destruction in Curtis Bay. We'll be meeting up with the folks from South Baltimore Community Land Trust at the Curtis Bay Rec Center (1630 Filbert)
The credit for MAS’s resounding victory in last weekend's elections must go to Bolivia’s social movements, historically some of the strongest in Latin America. They faced down the coup-makers and voted MAS back into office — no small accomplishment.
Happy Birthday
@dharnanoor
! She is not only brilliant but also funny, creative, deeply sensitive and a natural organizer! Thank you for being a light in the darkness of fossil capitalism. We love you so much ❤️
Standing room only at Curtis Bay community Rec Center
@BaltimoreSouth
and other community orgs reveal the community-led research on fugitive coal dust! It is so clear coal dust is everywhere!
#shutdowncsx
Absolutely devastating that so many on the bridge were Latinx workers fixing potholes! no one is focused on this except
@dharnanoor
and
@maximillian_alv
Can you believe that Professors at Public Universities in the state of MD do not have the right to unionize? We are about to change this by building collective power!!! Come on out and learn more about our legislative campaign:
Soooo excited to have
@aldatweets
@triofrancos
and
@johannabozuwa

#GND
#HousingGuarantee
When I say we are building land trusts in South Baltimore … I mean we are building state of the art passive homes energy efficient homes and igniting a land trust movement for affordable housing across Baltimore
I have never met a journalist (besides
@dharnanoor
) as committed to justice as
@maximillian_alv
He is a gem! We are so lucky to have him in Batimore and so lucky to build a movement for E Palestine uniting labor and EJ 💪🏾✊🏼And this might be only the beginning ❤️
The one and only
@GrimKim
killed it today talking about the resurgence of Black Lung amongst young miners in Appalachia. So grateful for your wisdom, nuance and fight !!!
I’m thankful for people like
@stschrader1
@llchristyll
and
@ailishhopper
and
@LesterSpence
in Baltimore. They give me hope for a future filled with radical imaginings, & creative teaching and make this damn pandemic a little less lonely 😔❤️
“I dont care how much theory you got, if it don't have any practice applied to it, then that theory happens to be irrelevant. Right? Any theory you get, practice it. And when you practice it you make some mistakes. When you make a mistake, you correct the theory” (Hampton 1969)
Bolivia is extremely volatile right now! I left the country feeling like it’s on the brink of exploding in more violence 😥mi querida Bolivia ... I hope for a brighter future!
The Filbert Street Agro Ecological garden is the
#Wakanda
of South Baltimore! It is a space where for 10 years community members have created a green house, solar panels, chicks, ducks and now goats to clear pastures! It is a model for community based composting and healthy foods
My dear friend and comrade in struggle received his gift from our
@BaltimoreSouth
today! Lawrence Brown’s ideas have moved many to action and now inspired your to make a butterfly of broken glass! ❤️💜
The brilliant
@BmoreDoc
gifted me all his LEGOS and his amazing popular ed game to teach High school students about redlining! Amazing how this gets the point across to young people 💪🏾🙌
