I'm concerned by the methodology of discounting a lot of available research. It seems odd to specify a double blind test when hormonal drugs are obviously going to impact somebody's appearance.
Chopping down a speed camera is like stealing your local defibrillator. You might not need it today but it will save lives.

Remember, when you start claiming universal credit, you have five-weeks before your first payment, so you might need to get an advance in the form of a loan which you pay back out of your payments. Xx
I'm really proud of Brummies who keep showing up to
@For_Birmingham
demos to keep pressure on eliminating road deaths and serious injuries.
Today, 25 people were outlined with chalk on a particularly grim stretch of road to represent those killed on the city's roads every year.
Driving standards in Birmingham are at rock bottom. It's truly depressing. If you think safety measures punish the "majority", you just have a high tolerance of what constitutes unsafe driving.
@LeeAndersonMP_
Imagine if your party hadn't taken a chainsaw to HS2 so people could get between the main domestic flight cities in the same amount of time?
But hey, at least London roads get some fresh tarmac and lots of other places get imaginary projects that get scrubbed one day later, eh.
@teen_headache
The point of my post was to suggest they should have just put in a staircase as there are lots of desire line created paths here. Hope this helps.
@Jack_Dixon_6t
Jack, a woman and child were hospitalised following a hit-and-run by a driver on Thursday. In the four weeks prior, two adults and two children have been killed and a further two people seriously injured. Give your head a wobble before you tweet about road safety.
This person drives onto their apparent personal parking verge through a pedestrian crossing and down a cycleway and footway. They leave it, with apparent difficulty through a pelican crossing. The local highways engineer isn’t interested and referred it to parking enforcement.
@SarahEdwds
Hi Sarah, is it fair or just that you’ve parked on the pavement, making it hard for people in wheelchairs or with prams, or people navigating the pavement with a cane or guide dog, to get around your car?

✅ 20mph zones save lives
✅ Clean Air Zones reduce certain types of pollution
✅ Pothole repairs help everyone and one way to reduce the need for repairs is to reduce the number of vehicles using the roads for short walkable/cyclable/public transport-able trips.

I can't find anything about a Linda Holt standing at the moment, so this must be a very old image. Which checks out with the shitty photo quality. 🤷🏻♂️
Meanwhile, outside Amazon's Birmingham hub in Tyseley...

Every other driver would ditch their car if public transport was improved. Imagine how transformational 55% fewer cars on the road would be.
It’s time for widespread bus priority measures as quickly as possible.
Interesting new “Report on Motoring” from
@TheRAC_UK
. Its research finds:
- Staggering 30% of drivers aged 17-24 admit to making video calls while driving
- 49% of drivers cite biggest concern is condition of local roads, high scores for poor driving/road safety
- 55%,
Today one of our bin crews was unable to collect from street in Small Heath because of inconsiderate car parking.
Please think about where you leave your vehicle, so our crews and those from the emergency services can go about their business.
@CllrMajid
@CharlotteCGill
Some context… A woman and child were run over in a hit-and-run at this junction on Thursday morning, the child remains critically injured. Many of Better Streets for Birmingham are also drivers. People were only standing in the road when the pedestrian light was green.
In this,
@RichParkerLab
proposes a rebrand to the West Midlands transport network. Let me explain why we explicitly moved away from that when I was involved in branding at WMCA. 🧵
@transportgovuk
Babe, half way through your consultation on stopping “councils profiting from traffic restrictions”, you set out all the existing regulatory frameworks that mean they cannot profit from traffic restrictions lol xx
Instead of attacking hard working motorists, why don't you sort out the appalling mess Labour has made of Birmingham's finances?
You bankrupted the city and still all you can do is continue your war on motorists.
We don't even have a functioning accounts system at present.
Hi
@LouHaigh
, I’ve recently been to Sheffield and it looked like it could be pretty good for cycling. It would be even better, I suspect, if we could get a long-term funding stream organised.
Today is my last day as Co-chair of
@For_Birmingham
as I step back from chairship to focus on policy. We've made so much progress and I'm proud that we achieved most of our annual objectives.
@teen_headache
Actually, people use this path because it’s a terribly design. To access the road at the end of this natural path, people have to cross the zebra crossing, walk along, head back over another zebra crossing and around an access road and roundabout. 🙂
Thought that Street gave a very dignified speech at the declaration. He’s been very good to work with over the last few years.
Someone put to me that most people have to grow a hatred of Andy Street. I’m very glad that the Andy in office did not resemble the Tories in the last
I’ve been watching the mayoral race carefully and will be backing Richard Parker tomorrow.
Although Andy has been a great champion of active travel, the nonsense around national tories briefing stories and wasting police time should focus everyone’s minds.
@meirionj
Meirion, I’m a hard-working productive person. In fact, I’m so productive that I manage to get to work in the same amount of time as a car, almost half the time of public transport. I’d quite like to not be killed while cycling to or from work. That’s not productive for anybody.
Here's the list I whizzed through for everyone's info! 👇🏼
Gave up my car because I was having such a poor and unsafe driving experience in Birmingham. I can remember driving back from JQ to Northfield via Quinton and thinking: this is it, I’m going to sell my car: undertaken on
This morning, I spoke about road traffic collisions in my constituency and the impact it has had on my community.
I also paid tribute to
@for_birmingham
and
@BhamCityCouncil
for the important work they do to improve road safety.
Watch my speech in full:
Interestingly, anti-CAZ groups seem to be run by the same group of people. Of the 9 admins and moderators of Birmingham’s anti-CAZ group, only two are from Birmingham and one person is from Tipton. The rest are in other parts of the UK.
So I have been having a little look at the people who run some of the Welsh anti-20mph Facebook groups.
It seems that many of them a run by Tory politicians.... who live in England....and support 20mph where they live....
Let's go on a journey (at a very safe speed).

As we approach a grim council budget, with an expectation that we'll lose access to some vital services, there's been some discussion about how the council can go ahead with transport schemes while possibly cutting other things. Let's sense check where that money comes from. 🧵👇🏼
IMPORTANT NEW VIDEO...
Could this be the new MAYOR of the WEST MIDLANDS…?
Who is she, what does she stand for and what would she change? Could Elaine
@reform_walsall
make
#Birmingham
and the
#WestMidlands
BETTER?
Let's find out.
@BecauseImBilly
Yes and isn’t it bad that they’ve (and every supermarket that does members-based pricing) been creeping up general prices so they can sell you something at RRP, labelling it a Clubcard price?
I was very glad to be able to speak at today's
@birmingham_live
live stream on road safety.
#Birmingham
's roads are not safe for any road user. Too many people don't make it home.
Today, I was able to set out
@For_Birmingham
's three asks of our authorities.
Birmingham City Council (
@bhamconnected
) have published an updated Interim Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP) which includes new supplementary routes.
This document will be superseded next year with even more routes and information.
Oh good, the utterly dishonest
@GarySambrook89
has launched a campaign to bin the
@A38Cycleway
extension. Presenting it as a new idea despite him knowing about it for *years* and presenting it as the Council spending money when it’s government grant funded. 2024:

Wild how it’s becoming clearer by the day that CCHQ commandeered Street’s campaign in the closing stretch.
The Tory machine likely cost him the election and yet it rabbles on into national redundancy.
@SayeedaWarsi
@Conservatives
Andy’s “vote for the person, not the party” mask slipped in the past 48 hours as the national party were instructed to brief about the region, rally around him with social posts, and even make a time wasting complaint to the Police just in time for it to make the Daily Mail.
8 days to go until the WMCA mayoral election and we've only got two manifestos with only one more likely to materialise. 😔 We've (
@For_Birmingham
) pulled together a comparison for transport policy and sent a list of questions to interrogate the Street and Parker manifestos.
The link between the Jewellery Quarter and Colmore Row is unacceptable 👎🏻
You’re faced with the choice of a rickety old bridge or a dark underpass 🙅🏻♂️
With record levels of development on both sides of the A38, something has to change… 👀
Despite my expression (managing a Q&A, pre-submitted questions and raised hands), I very much enjoyed facilitating tonight’s third-party reporting webinar with Sgt Jordan Keen. We’ll publish the write-up as soon as we can. 🙂
Sargeant Jordan Keen doing a great job at
@for_birmingham
's webinar on using the Nextbase reporting tool to highlight dangerous driving, obstructive parking and more.
Thank you!
This week I took long-term decisions to build a brighter future and change our country.
This change will:
🏘️ Transform our towns
🚆 Boost our transport
📚 Improve our education
🚭 Reduce cancer deaths
Here’s how👇
Yesterday we shocked the world with the chilling tale of Labour’s ruinous mismanagement of our amazing capital city.
But Labour’s failure extends far beyond London.
Today, we expose a tale equally chilling - this time in Birmingham.
