social audio will be huge for politics
the former prime minister of pakistan goes live on spaces:
446K listen live
165K peak
20K set reminders
total stage following: ~23 million
Late last year, Apple enforced App Store 'privacy labels'. For the first time, it's easy to compare how much data an app links to your account
Looking at messaging apps, the contrast is quite stark
This is why iOS 11 changed the Bluetooth behaviour in Control Centre.
Keeping it turned on becomes much more important in a world where you own several Siri devices, all listening.
This is especially true in the place they’re most likely to congregate: your home.
I'm leaving

BREAKING: Apple is finalizing a deal with OpenAI to power some Generative AI features — like a chatbot — for the new iOS this year. Talks with Google to integrate Gemini are ongoing but no deal has been reached.
openai will release sora “definitely this year, but could be a few months”
mira doesn’t rule out releasing before the US election, it’s “certainly a consideration” — if they’re confident about misinformation and bias
GPT-4o was a whole team effort. Huge credit especially to
@prafdhar
for the conviction to build an omni model, and helping see it through collaboration with many teams at OpenAI over the past 18 months.
Also, he's excellent at trivia:

openai’s operating agreement warns investors
“it would be wise to view any investment in openai global, llc in the spirit of a donation, with the understanding that it may be difficult to know what role money will play in a post-agi world”
“will there be such a thing as a prompt engineer in 2026?… you don’t prompt engineer your friends”
“you and i don’t have to sit here and trade prompt drafts to understand each other”

Strictly, this is wrong:
1) They record ~15 of audio when there is a user report. If no report, all audio is deleted when the room ends. This was very clearly stated on last Sunday’s Town Hall, and the privacy policy will be updated to make it even clearer
The

engineering team are blogging
The first story: how they scaled from 10k to +1M backend requests a minute, and ran 3x as efficiently, with only two engineers on staff 😅
twitter laid me off today. if you know of any open positions for project managers and senior software engineers, let me know. i was the PM in charge of that feature where you try to have a conversation but can’t

I cofounded
@fanhouseapp
8 months ago to empower creators to monetize their content. We pay creators 90% of earnings. Now, Apple is threatening to remove Fanhouse from the app store unless we give them 30% of creator earnings. This is theft and exploitation.
Apple’s privacy labels are mandatory for app updates since December. So far, 1/3rd of apps have added the labels.
What do most apps actually do? Here’s
@K0nserv
with an analysis of 3,000 popular apps from different categories:
Whether equal weighting and contextless inclusion of every item is a good way to convey their relative impact on privacy, other than a glanceable “goodness that’s a lot!”, is another matter
clubhouse are launching clips ✌️
clips capture the last 30 seconds of the room and let anyone share it (if the creator turns them on)

Facebook, for example, isn’t surprising anybody, and by flooding the label they arguably make it harder to separate specific concerns from reasonable practice
The Taliban have toppled a government and it's very interesting to see where people go to talk about it
Clubhouse: a room for over six hours and still going, 18,000 people passing through, 1,750 peak, 79 speakers
Twitter: a few small Spaces
The new GPT-4 Turbo model is the only one that could solve this math question:
"Determine the sum of the y-coordinates of the four points of intersection of y = x^4 - 5x^2 - x + 4 and y = x^2 - 3x."
Even Opus never gets close to the right answer
@GabGarrett
I’m hoping we can get evals out shortly to help quantify this. Until then - it’s a new model with various data and training improvements, resulting in better reasoning.
