I’M COMING HOME!!!! 🇨🇦🇨🇦
From Canada to the UK and now back to Canada, it’s been a journey that I’ll never forget. Excited for the next chapter in my medical career but sad to leave behind the people that helped me call this place home. Up next Kingston!

Starting Canadian residency and seeing the difference is crazy. Like I get benefits?!? Like dental, health and life insurance?!! Coming from the NHS this is mind blowing to me 🤯

Also consider that in the UK medicine is an undergrad degree. So actually the timeline to a consultant looks about the same (at least when compared to North America)
Anyone know people in aviation and space medicine? Been researching the ST3 post through IMT and it looks amazing!! Would love to get to know more about it

Medical community, question for all of you guys. Why is it so ‘uncool’ to like or have a passion in medicine here? Feel like in North America it’s praised but the opposite in the UK? Had a little debate on our ward and curious to see what you think

Definitely true but then you could argue that their working conditions are much more gruelling than ours. 70-80 weeks are pretty standard during residency and also our pay is substantially better. There are pros and cons to each system for sure though.
We all learn from mistakes in medicine but we should really try and learn from excellence too! Thought it would be a good idea to share some stories where we learned from others when things went well as a change!

Everyone did say to go US instead cause the chances are so slim as an IMG. The main thing was acing the MCCQE and NAC! More than happy to go through the process cause I was in the same boat this time last year. Dm me!
Seeing the palliative care consultant not only speak to the family for half an hour but then go and write the TTO was such a refreshing change to see and I know I’ll try and strive to be like that in the future! Simple things make the world of difference in healthcare!
@HaQ_mAn
I guess that’s where gratefulness/mindfulness comes into play. We should appreciate where we are so that we aren’t always chasing the next thing. Much much easier said than done but I we can’t try little things like: writing down 3 things we are grateful for/did well everyday!

Thanks so much!! Glad you liked it 😊. Just wanted to try a new style out and I took this photo and decided to turn it into a graphic.

Hey siri, define Job “1. a paid position of regular employment.”
Yeah pretty sure I have a “job” in the NHS. Please pay us accordingly, many thanks!
@thegradmedic
The MCCQE part 1 has set dates and so does the NAC. Just tell them in advance and book the dates as soon as you can. It’s expensive to do the exams but I’m also doing them now post F2 cause I wanna go home…
Amongst all the downsides of being a junior doctor in the NHS, sometimes you do get those days where you take a step back and think “holy shit I dreamt of being here for years and years”. We are pretty lucky out here! Have a great day guys
