In Hackney, all new venues must close by 11PM Mon-Fri and 12PM at the weekend. No new venues can operate later than this. Over time the existing venues will need new licenses and therefore the venues that are open after 11/12 will slowly erode until there is literally none left.

Call me radical but I don’t think a housing market that forces asset poor cash rich millennials to move 90+ mins away from their workplace, isolate themselves from their friends, cut out all “luxuries (?)” like Netflix (£5.99 a month) to save up £35,000+ is a good economic model.

Last year when I was researching into @SadiqKhan ’s “Night Tzar” @amylame and the 41% of London night clubs permanently closed in this city since she took over in 2016, I was told she was doing 3 days a week. Now it looks like that’s gone down to 2.5 days a week. Beggars belief.

Two bed flats in our area (Stratford) are going for anything from £590,000 to £770,000. All require at least a 10% deposit, if not more. Genuinely, tell me, on what planet am I supposed to have saved £77,000 in savings for a deposit when rents for a two bed here are £2,500 pcm?

In 2018, the Labour-run Hackney council banned any new venues from being open after 11PM on a Friday night. Existing venues were unaffected but when renewing their license had to close at 11PM unless they could prove there would be no noise after 11. This is the result ⬇️

Not sure on the starting salaries here but Australian Junior Doctors definitely do earn more than UK ones. But - unlike the UK - they also pay up to AU$630,000 in fees for their medicine degree and work in privatised healthcare system. Two things the BMA would never support.

I’m being a bit of a spoilt brat but London nightlife is in decline. Restaurants closing outdoor business at 8:45PM. All new Hackney licenses for bars and night clubs forcing closure at 11PM. Greggs unable to sell a Cornish pasty after 11PM. 22% of night clubs closing in a year.

I’ve paid well over £100,000 on rent for the last 10 years of my life, giving away often over 50% of salary on rent *before* bills. Uni friends with rich parents got onto the ladder years ago, with direct help on deposit or £££ to cover their rent. Some of them are landlords now

Said goodbye to my grandad for the last time today at his funeral. He wrote books, set up a business, served in the army, was a chartered accountant and a Conservative councillor. A great man sadly robbed of his dignity by Alzheimer’s - a disease my family knows all too well. RIP

I love how the “ticking time bomb” for home owners is that their mortgage repayments might increase up to 1/4 of their take home pay. Talk to any renter under the age of 40. Ask them how much of their salary goes on rent - they’d jump at the chance to pay 1/4 of their salary.
