For weeks I've been listening to nearly every CDC news telephone briefing on coronavirus. Tuesday was a wake-up call about a potential pandemic. Today, the first briefing after Pence took over, was all about giving credit to Trump's border control strategy.
What happens if New Yorkers do not want their bags checked by the national Guard?
“Then go home,”
@GovKathyHochul
says on
@fox5ny
“You’re not taking the subway.”
Mayor Eric Adams again defends the new "We ♥️ NYC" logo: "I thought it was brilliant. Those who want to highlight the numerical minority that sits in the corner of their home somewhere in their pajamas saying, 'Let me criticize everything,' that is not the spirit of New Yorkers."
“We’ve got a whole propaganda campaign out there that is rooted in fear of the other,” says
@AOC
, referring to the mayoral race and the conversations around public safety.
“Two cops ought to be able to disarm or at least resolve the situation without having to shoot the kid dead,” he added. “It’s a household pair of scissors.”

When I ask my kids how many students were in their classes today, the older one gives the younger one a look and says, "Don't tell her. She's just going to use it in a story."😏
This week I asked the mayor what kind of engagement police are having w/ New Yorkers on the subway who look like they need help. They may NOT be the appropriate city resource to deploy for this issue but they’re the ones here in greatest numbers and at a big cost to taxpayers.
Mayor Adams: Bad guys no longer fear the police. They feel emboldened.
Q: So, if police can't help solve the problem, what can you do about it?
Mayor Adams: No. They are.

The candidates were asked about the city's vaccine rollout and the racial disparities. Everyone was critical but
@AndrewYang
did offer a new idea: Lower the age requirement in certain communities of color like Brownsville to try to get more POCs to take the vaccine.
Mayor Adams is now on CNN, talking about the chokehold death of Jordan Neely. He calls
@NYCComptroller
irresponsible for his tweet calling the incident vigilantism.
“After 20 years in which mayors Bloomberg and de Blasio made an effort towards transparency and good government, the people now running New York are grubbier, more transactional, and not at all embarrassed about it.”
Here’s the ONLY distance learning school hack I’ve figured out so far. For every

Myles Toe, who shot the now infamous video of
@AndrewYang
, said he thought the moment made him seem more relatable. "Yang was in the streets with us. Five Black kids," he said. "To hang with us in the streets was the coolest thing ever."
From me and
@brigidbergin
Mayor Adams’ office is trying to take away chairs from a City Council presser that’s happening in the rotunda. All this is tied to their battle over a pair of bills the mayor has vetoed and which council plans to override.
On the topic of creating more affordable housing,
@AndrewYang
talks about converting hotels and commercial properties that have become empty during the pandemic.
@KGforNYC

“In a mini-masterpiece of elite liberal reasoning, the Times made no reference to any of the local representatives in the district or the gritty, difficult neighborhood issues on which they have toiled away over the years.”
@errollouis
Mayor Adams is known for his attention to political stagecraft. Now, an email from City Hall shows he’s asking all city agencies to share a video promoting a positive portrayal of the city’s asylum response… and he’s keeping track of who’s complying.
"There aren’t enough shelters, there aren’t enough social workers, there aren’t enough outpatient facilities. So people who no longer know how to care for themselves, who need their hands held through a complex process, are alone on the street once again."
we are essential workers we are working at all times regardless of the weather conditions, very hot, extreme cold, storms and this week poor air quality ✊

NYPD officials are asked about how crime still remains much higher than 2019. Chief Lipetri blames bail reform, something the mayor has said too. But experts have argued there is no data to prove a link. For ex, in 2020, crime rose sharply in cities that did not have bail reform.
“Yet in an ironic twist, all 10 of the unnamed offenders cited in the press conference were, in fact, eligible to be held on bail.” Story by

New: Sources tell me NYC libraries will stave off additional cuts this year. No restoration but the move should allow branches to keep 6-day-a-week service. They had said further cuts would force them down to 5.
Very imp transit story via our elementary school: "The NYC Department of Transportation will be temporarily naming East 88th Street 'Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile Street,' and will be putting up a street sign tomorrow at 11 a.m. at 88th Street and First Avenue for the rest of the day."
Richard Chao has driven a cab for 17 years. His brother was among the cab drivers who committed suicide. His loan was 389k. Now it’s $170k. “I can make a livable income,” he says, “and bring food to the table.” A remarkable swath of immigrant faces and stories here.

So I got to meet

At Al Sharpton’s NAN headquarters in Harlem where mayoral candidate
