Labour’s problem, what is eating it alive right now is, not its inability but its fundamental unwillingness to distinguish between Israel and Jews. A refusal that is structurally, logically antisemitic — and of course, concretely, anti-Palestinian. Those things often go together.

So, I hold no candle for Graham Jones. I mean, for a start, he once called me an "Iranian hangmen" [sic] because I opposed Saudi Arabia's murderous war on Yemen. Weird! But there was nothing morally wrong with what he said and it's absurd he was suspended. Israel is currently

It was a mistake for XR to be so friendly to the police. Like it or not, as long as the status quo is geared toward ecocide, as long as the entire structure of property rights and accumulation depends on it, the police will proactively defend ecocide.

Marr is trying, to be fair, he's really trying. And some of his blows are landing. But here, he's just being steamrollered. And Johnson is lying so prolifically, so fluently, that it's impossible to counter all of it in one interview. Which is the Tory strategy.

It will tend to flatten if the government delays the release of death figures for at least 24 hours on a spurious pretext.

New: UK #COVID19 death toll now at 465. Good news: UK’s trajectory seems to be flattening. Now below Spain, Italy and France’s. And NB this has yet to reflect the latest lockdown measures. Bad news: it’s still rising fast. And too early to be sure the flattening will continue…

Agree or disagree with Labour's Brexit policy, the pretence 'not to get it' on the part of journalists is culpable. If you can get a good deal, you campaign for it. If you can't, you don't. What is so complicated about that? A goldfish could retain this much information.

The British Left complaining about comedians (ffs) who didn't back Corbyn is a stage of mourning that we need to get through extremely quickly. No one owes a politician or political campaign support. If we failed to win support, as we did across the country, that's on us.

Importantly, it is not *remotely* unusual for people to care about issues/causes that don’t benefit them materially, or cost them. It only surprises those trapped in a paradigm of “interest” derived from classical political economy that never described how people really behave.

I thought long and hard about why one may care about the plight of Palestinians in Gaza, as someone in the West, with essentially nothing to gain, and potentially a lot to lose, from advocating for them. 1/

Excellent pitch by Rebecca Long-Bailey. I’d like her to win. I’d also like her to campaign more aggressively. Politically she’s solid. And I really don’t buy the argument that wooden Starmer has any charisma advantage here.

I mean it’s extraordinary that they can even post this. They “mourn with” the people whose kids and families they’re killing. I know that liberalism has almost entirely replaced politics with the emotional gesture, but ‘empathy’ has never been more brazenly sadistic.

Our message to Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank, and all around the world is clear: we see you, we grieve with you, and we mourn every loss of innocent life. Civilians are not to blame and should not suffer for Hamas’s horrific terrorism.

What these jobs have in common is that they provide dignity, autonomy, a good income, and recognition. This isn’t true of the majority of jobs in admin, the caring sector, leisure, sales, customer service, cleaning, driving, secretarial etc, which is the vast majority of jobs.

The Conservatives ran an officially-sanctioned, viciously racist campaign against Sadiq Khan, backed by then Prime Minister. Their candidate to run against Khan is a racist, who has not been sanctioned for his racism. This is institutional racism.

Kettle logic, courtesy of sour grapes journalists: 1. Corbyn shouldn't be releasing secret documents; 2. anyway, it isn't all that significant; 3. anyway, the government has denied this; 4. the Russians did it; 5. You don't watch the Queen's speech, do you Mister Crombyn?

This is terrifying. It’s a victory for Trump, Tucker Carlson, and the lunatic right who rallied to Rittenhouse. It’s a carte blanche for every militia member, armed boogaloo fanatic, neo-Nazi and vigilante engaged in countersubversive murder.

I was in the SWP from 1998 to 2013, and really detest the party now. But anyone else who was in the party during this period can tell you: everything this guy is saying here is pure fantasy. No one ever went on about “Jewish power” or gave lectures bashing Jewish people.

I won't vote for Nandy - obviously - but I admire the utter ruthlessness and fluency of her lying on national television. And she's not even doing it for Jess Phillips-style celebrity cachet, but out of sheer will-to-power. If I were a Blairite, I'd get right behind her.
