Very IMPORTANT study - Vaccines or prior infection DO PROTECT against infection for low and moderate exposure to virus - Do NOT be protect if HIGH exposure So N95 masks, ventilation, filtration are CRITICAL, they can turn high exposures into low or moderate, avoid infection!

Of course children need masks. COVID is not a cold. It is a neurotropic virus, can go into the brain and lots of other organs. 1000 children dead in US, millions of kids w/ #LongCovidKids , millions have lost parents. Wearing mask is not hard for kids, they forget about it.

"Some parents and teachers have cited concerns that masks harm kids by impairing their ability to breathe, slowing their social and emotional development, and causing them anxiety. But experts say that the science doesn’t back up those worries"

Canada competing for the MOST IDIOTIC COVID-19 policy award!! Telling a top airborne transmission scientist that she needs to remove her better mask and put on a crappy one, before sharing the air in a bus! As the highly transmissible AIRBORNE Omicron grows exponentially

The filter in our son's mask is quite dirty after a week at school. Clearly it is working to remove aerosols from the air. Not just respiratory ones (which may contain viruses) but also dust, soot, wildfire smoke, allergens, mold...

5/ This major error (IMHO one of most important errors in the entire history of Public Health) has had major consequences: - In early pandemic we focused on surfaces, which are minor or negligible - we ignored air, which was the dominant mode => lack of controlling transmission

A news piece in @Nature about the article about exposures to COVID in prisons that showed - vaccines protect from infection if exposure is low to moderate - do NOT protect from infection if HIGH exposure Thus reinforces reducing exposures: outdoors, ventilation, filt., N95 etc.

what seemed like an intuitive truth throughout the pandemic — that longer exposure to people w/ COVID is riskier than shorter exposures — now has real world data behind it and it holds true for those that have prior immunity (study by @MaggieLind2 )

1/ Schools & COVID-19 A lot of misinformation on this. Best evidence: there is considerable transmission in schools. So schools should be opened only w/ low community transmission, and w/ mitigation measures: high-quality & well-fitted masks, less density, ventilation, CO2...

2/ Soon after COVID-19 pandemic started, it was clear to many scientists (inc. those who understand aerosols) that AIRBORNE trans. was an important contributor E.g. as soon as we talked to the Skagit choir, it was obvious that was airborne-dominated:
