This is totally ridiculous. I have never once worn a bulletproof vest at the border, nor has CBP ever asked me to -- even while on a chase with Border Patrol to apprehend migrants in remote Arizona desert in the middle of the night. Because. The. Border. Is. Not. A. War. Zone.

Not true at all. I was there in El Paso on Friday. The VP most definitely went to the border — specifically, the Paso del Norte Port of Entry, one of the busiest pedestrian border crossings in the United States.

I was inside the detention center that separated more kids from any other. FLOTUS was in McAllen but didn’t go there. There is *nothing* phony about kids alone in a cage supervised by a security contractor in a watch tower. I saw it myself.

I have been inside a federal prison and county jails. This place is called a shelter but these kids are incarcerated. No cells and no cages, and they get to go to classes about American history and watch Moana, but they’re in custody. Coming up on @allinwithchris next.

I’m in Florida on assignment. Stopped by HHS’ “temporary” shelter for unaccompanied minors who entered US illegally. It’s still open. Trump administration sent many separated kids here during zero tolerance. Around 50 of them are still inside. 528 total remain separated.

Just ran into Joe Biden at LAX and told him my daughter (who doesn’t exist) is my father-in-law’s wife. Meant to say my wife is the daughter of my father-in-law (duh), who worked for Biden early in his political career. He figured it out. That’s why he was VP and I wasn’t.

This shelter, Casa Padre, is the largest licensed childcare facility of its kind in the country. Nearly 1,500 boys 10-17 in here now. They’re supposed to sleep four to room. Nearly every room has 5. They’ve received a variance from the state because of overcrowding.

Instructions to employees in the lobby of the shelter if you encounter media: 1) “Immediatelt notify PD,” or the police department. 2) Call the shelter communications director. In that order. For the record, nobody called cops on us. We were invited by HHS and the shelter.

A new report says the parents of 545 children separated at the border can’t be found. We obtained a January 2018 memo from DHS highlighting problems with the early “pilot” family-separation program. One “negative impact” listed: “New populations of U.S. orphans.”

Just heard from @HHSGov again: Of the 11,786 minors currently in the unaccompanied alien children program, 3,280 are female and 8,506 are male. We still don’t have photos of or acces to any girls or toddlers.

BREAKING: Trump administration releases latest numbers on migrant kids it separated from parents. This is most detailed data we've seen so far. ➡️ 2,654 total kids separated. ➡️ 565 *still* separated; 24 are 0-5 year olds. ➡️ Parents of 366 *already* deported; 6 are 0-5.

One final thing that stuck out: this former WalMart is 250,000 square feet. The boys have under *40* square feet of living space each. Lights go out in there at 9PM every night. Will have more tomorrow on @TODAYshow , @Morning_Joe & @MSNBC . Thanks for sharing this story.

He’s lying. Yes, the cages I saw Trump’s separated kids in were built by Obama administration — that shouldn’t be excused. But no president other than Trump ever systematically separated families and this week we found out they continue to — 900 since Trump “ended” the policy.

The cages for kids were built by the Obama Administration in 2014. He had the policy of child separation. I ended it even as I realized that more families would then come to the Border! @CNN

Something I just told @chrislhayes : this place is a licensed child care facility with trained staff. There are 26 operated by the same nonprofit, @SouthwestKey . Its president told me that potential new tent cities that will be on federal property *don’t* have to be licensed.
