As a solo designer, I'm constantly getting stuck.
Feedback from experienced designers is a huge advantage, something Meta has perfected with design crits.
Today I'm testing a side project to make that available to anyone, a design crit in your pocket.
Spent the last 5+ years building every version of an async voice app with
@0xc0dedead
&
@BrianNorgard
So thankful that this version of Airchat was enough fun to earn your time for even a day or two ❤️
Want to make $ giving design feedback on the side?
Sent out over 100 design kits this week, if I missed you in the first round, would love to fix that -
Thanks so much for the support!

Its finally here—a breakthrough way to share native iOS prototypes.
You can now share native prototypes with Apple App Clips—the easiest, fastest, highest quality way for people to experience your work instantly on their iPhone.
No web simulations. No app installs. No friction.
I've tried 10 versions of this idea, all trying to make getting unstuck cheaper and faster.
If you're a designer looking to get paid to give design feedback, I'd love to chat.
I remember as a teenager
@john
and
@sammy
did the same for me, changed my career.
They both often went out of their way to help and give advice, with nothing in return.
Cold emailing
@dburka
when I was 15 in North Carolina changed my career and life trajectory.
Agree: most young people find it a little challenging to reach out to people they respect. Guess what? It's free.
(Just be mindful of their time and don't be a jackass).
Current trend:
- tell great story via landing page
- hype product on twitter with launch vid
- collect $ before showing product
- ship 10% of what the customer expected
Evergreen:
- build something people want
- base of free users finding value daily
- offer extra
We’ve launched a simplified experience on
@getairchat
this week - finding great content like this should be much easier now - let me know what you think!
Congrats to my mentor
@ARudmann
on reaching the top yet again.
Every great product from Tinder over the last 5 years has been because of him, lucky I get to learn from the worlds best every day.
@mutablejoe
@IndianIdle
Imagine soccer or basketball but when someone scored, the opponent could just say “no actually I scored”, and by the rules they’d be right
As we go deep with all these talented designers like
@danmall
,
@graceongrid
,
@FonsMans
etc...
We are learning a lot 🤯
So we wanted to pause and share 5 key takeaways from Season 2 of Deep Dives 🤿

It’s incredibly cheap and easy to make a flavor of the month product that tech twitter goes crazy over.
It becomes very time consuming and expensive to make a product people outside that bubble use.
Primer on how we design at
@linear
:
The main point is that the design is only a reference, never any kind of deliverable itself, so the way it's constructed doesn't really matter.
1. We screenshot the app and design on top of
2. Simple design system that has mostly colors,
You can talk all day about something you believe, but unless you go all in and take action on that intuition, you’re no different than the people who were doubting...
At first glance,
@getairchat
may seem like any other voice chat app, but promoting voice transcripts to center stage sets it apart.
Let's take a closer look.
The Surprising Power of Voice-to-Text Transcription
In most voice-led apps, content starts and ends as audio.
Airchat
Working with
@BrianNorgard
is like being on the same team as Lebron.
Makes everyone around him better, constantly wins, and everyone knows they are getting to learn from the best in the world.
It was a pleasure building Top Picks with our team
I find it especially gratifying how
@ikbarber
and team continued to improve the product day-after-day despite many UX challenges
Congrats team Tinder once again on another fantastic feature for our customers 🔥🔥🔥
I never use Twitter to push my thoughts, but goddamn.
Assume racism is everywhere, every day.
Acting like it's not an issue because you live costal and don't think it's happening here isn't enough anymore... We need to do a better job educating our generation and the next
For the past ~10 years, it’s been easy to take the “Facebook will copy/buy up anything good” attitude.
Tinder proved that wrong (FB Dating), followed by TikTok (Lasso/Loops), and now we are seeing an explosion of consumer creativity and optimism.
Can’t wait for more to follow.
If you’ve been lucky enough to see
@cadearsley
at work, this comes as no surprise. World class designer and founder.
Congrats to you and the team, excited to see what’s next.
Never seen this mentioned, but
@seanrad
is also one of the best designers I have ever seen.
Many late nights where we’d be sharing the same computer, co-designing products in Sketch, and his work was ALWAYS better than mine.
This man is responsible for connecting more people than anyone else in human history.
The numbers behind Tinder under
@Seanrad
are INSANE:
💕 50 billion matches
🤯 1 billion swipes PER DAY
🌎 Top grossing app in 99 Countries
💵 Tinder is a fricking cash machine
My 6 key
@namyakhann
A designer who can create icons, prototype interactions, create the style guide, design the UX, copywrite and of course put together UI - at larger companies each of these can be an individual position
Crazy how quick we went from “the greatest tech product ever” to nobody mentioning it in weeks.
How is any consumer product supposed to gain footing when we just accelerate to the next thing on our feed every day.
Can’t think of a better opportunity to grow something new, or a better list of people to learn from.
Would be banging on Jeff’s door if I was starting something new
@jmj
I think it’s more the risk associated with trying something new vs copying what data suggests is working.
No shortage of new ideas being tinkered with at these companies imo, but the products that get shipped are just the lowest risk
@MichaelFilipiuk
@ilyamiskov
X is great for more extroverted types/already senior designers able to constantly post things other than their work to hold a following.
A spot that focuses on just the work has always been helpful for new/upcoming designers
