My wife became a 🇺🇸citizen🇺🇸 today! What a long process. She waited 27 years for this. !YEARS! She was a dreamer that went from kindergarten in Queen to becoming a biotech engineer at @PennEngineers and she now works in developing vaccines to protect us from deadly diseases.

Got word that paper #9 was just accepted from my grad work. Reminiscing on how certain people were sure I was going to Master out. I had to switch labs and had to retake my prelim/candidacy exam. I really almost gave up if it weren’t for @IshmailSaboor and @jscdavis !

The postdoc experience needs a revamp. Yes, you can get by and endure… but why? Should we not try to make the research enterprise better for all? @neubadah writes a nice piece on how we can fix some of the issues and has worked tirelessly in advocacy

This is very real. I am half Puerto Rican 🇵🇷 and had some of these types of interactions growing up but it was most pronounced in Academia when I was looking for my community. (Other half Bengali 🇧🇩in case you were curious, lol)

#Mixed people often face rejection from the racial communities they belong to. It hurts when someone Asian says I don’t look Asian (enough to belong). Wearing this shirt, I set myself up for microaggressions but also hope to broaden our understanding of what Asian can look like.

The sudden loss of @lyoun03 echoes somberly across the many communities he has touched. He was an inspiring scientist, the kindest of people, and full of life. His generosity was unparalleled and he was a staunch supporter of junior scientists. He will be profoundly missed!

In recognition of #HispanicHeritageMonth I’d like to celebrate that part of me. Yeah my name is of biblical/Arabic/Hebrew origins… but it was the name my Puerto Rican mom also liked because it reminded her of hers and her moms favorite Puerto Rican singer, Ismael Miranda.
