We recently launched interactive 3D cards to represent reading levels on
@Artifact_News
- all unique to each user. We learned some tips for implementing 3D on iOS/Android along the way. Here's a bit about how we designed the details 🧵
We’re excited to announce that we’ve raised $62.7 million in a Series B1 funding led by Daniel Gross. The round also includes Stanley Druckenmiller, NVIDIA, Jeff Bezos, Tobi Lutke, Garry Tan, Andrej Karpathy, Dylan Field, Elad Gil, Nat Friedman, IVP, NEA, Jakob Uszkoreit, Naval
Artifact is expanding beyond articles! Starting today, you can share any link from the web that’s interesting to you and view a personalized feed of links based on your interests — broadening what’s possible to discover with Artifact’s AI. Learn more in our post, linked in🧵
Design - Our goal was for each level to feel unique and it was a perfect opportunity to leverage our branded block language (s/o
@omgadamho
) to create variation across the cards. The system resulted in a vibrant array of color combinations and patterns to fill the card fronts.

For the
@ETHGlobal
NFT Hack,
@melsmithab
and I explored an idea where hackathon attendees could claim exclusive

for participating. We designed art pieces and a website to pitch the concept. Here is a little highlight reel from the work.
Stoked to see my 3D renders for the
@SuperlistHQ
app featured at Google I/O this year. Lovely team, incredible product. Can't wait for this to release🤘
Before you ask, no we’re not (yet) launching Superlist, but we were happy to see our beta shown live onstage at Google IO. We got a chance to share how we’ve been using
@flutterdev
to build the our product and share a look at what we’ve been up to.

Been struggling with this too. Twitter compression is the worst😬
Here's what I've been using lately for Twitter and Insta -
AME Export:
H.264
1280x720
25-30fps max frame rate
25 Mbps max bitrate
512 MB max file size
✅Render at maximum depth
✅Use max render quality
To sum up some tips for building 3D scenes on iOS and Android:
- Use Physically Based Rendering
- Experiment with formats such as glTF and USDZ
- Use environment maps for easy lighting
- Set long focal lengths on your camera to avoid distortion
- Don't forget post effects!

Design - Cinema4D was used to dial in lighting, materials, cameras, and post-processing settings to help guide implementation. Another handy tool is Apple's Reality Converter where you can upload 3D models and apply textures/lighting to preview and convert to build.
— Growth Studies Pt. 2
A key theme of my next piece involves nature and organic growth. In order to iterate quickly and test new looks, I created a setup to procedurally scatter plants on any type of object.

Camera - The default camera has a small focal length which creates a wider angle distortion on objects. Larger focal lengths zoom into the scene accordingly and reduce distortion. We went with a larger focal length to avoid object distortion.
