@hulsey_ryan @RBrookhiser It is a sign of stasis. If we look closely at Thucydides (Book 6), we find that the destruction of statues is an ominous sign of things to come. He knows it is important, signaling the phenomenon at both Athens and Amphipolis. Can we learn from history? It would be nice.
