You are begging the question, I think. The cartoonist clearly is intending to convey that he doesn't think McCain is *actually* upset about anti-semitism, and I completely agree with him.
@jweisber
I also think that as you get socialized into academia you get de-socialized from the rest of the world in ways that have high costs if you want to change careers.
News: I was awarded a "Global Professorship" by the British Academy. I get to spend the next four years at the University of Cambridge in the HPS department with only research duties. I teach my last classes today for the next four years.
I'll be heading to the UK in January.

I'm not "suggesting" they didn't believe it. I'm quoting their own words where they say, in black and white, that they don't believe it.
It's not a conspiracy "theory" when you can literally read the correspondence of the conspiracy in action.
I can totally top this. I was told my paper reflected a poor knowledge of climate science, and that I should look at the work of
@ewinsberg
for an example of a what good work on climate science should look like.
I've never met a scientist whose actual research or theorizing was influenced by philosophy of science. The philosophers are just shouting into the void.
This is obviously impossible and a prelude to war crimes. (Why else would you demand the impossible if not to say "your fault for not heading the warning"?)
30 million Americans have no health insurance. 80 million have very high co-pays. No one will go to the hospital to get tested. This is why you have universal healthcare systems. Because diseases are infectious.
Me, an evergreen rube: The Epstein story is about the moral depravity of of a rich and powerful man.
The NYT, galaxy brained: its a story about a luxurious townhouse.
Everyone that teaches should occasionally take a class or lesson in something that they suck at. It's a nice antidote for "I can't believe how dumb my students are."
Except that public health is, in fact, a dangerous cult. And the only sense in which the *movement* against public health is *organized* is that they themselves couldn't have done a better job of organizing it.
🧵Like climate change denial, the movement against public health has moved from fringe to mainstream.

I'm not sure which is more wrong: the idea that Paul McCartney is anywhere near being in the same league as Dylan or Simon. Or the idea that he's American.
1/ Theories of a truth--buckle up:
There seems to be lots of interest in theories of truth lately on philtwitter, so I decided to write my first long tweetstorm about theories of truth. First, what are theories of truth? In my opinion, a theory of truth is a theory about
In capital region of Denmark, 2.7% of Blood donors test positive for COVID-19 antibody. I'm told this test is 100% specific, but I have not confirmed this with a link.
Pretty unbelievable when we a reply to a tweet gets the author to delete it AND also block you. Maybe if the tweet is worth deleting the reply was worth hearing.
I got a PhD, then a post doc, then a job, then tenure, and then promotion to full professor. But I think that's the end of the line, so don't expect any future progress.
A bunch of people are idiotsplaining to Nate that misinformation causes war. But "misinformation" is defined by the state in coordination with social media companies. And if you think the state's lies (WMD!) that lead to war will get called misinformation you are beyond help.
If the experts think that misinformation is a bigger problem than war, then a way bigger problem than misinformation is that the experts are fucking idiots.
I wrote a little substack on why I'm now virtually sure that SARS-CoV-2 leaked, in modified form, from a lab. Nothing original--just compiling the evidence as I see it. Happy to hear well-reasoned pushback.
So, when Gary Johnson said "what is Aleppo" on TV, it was major news for weeks. But Congressman Kinzinger calls Assad the "butcher of Baghdad" and literally crickets. Only RT seems to be noticing this.
Watch McCain-impersonator

call for US military force to protect Idlib's al-Qaeda rulers. He and

then attack
@TulsiGabbard
for meeting with the President of *Syria* Bashar al-Assad – who Kinzinger calls the "Butcher of Baghdad" 😐

Can philosophers pretty please stop acting like "misinformation" and "conspiracy theory" are real epistemic concepts worthy of philosophical analysis rather than propaganda terms? Pretty pretty please?

Someone probably carefully researched the race stuff and then someone else decided it needed a name and googled: what is Kant's philosophy called and added the title (and slightly edited the main text.).
good news: New research suggests that destabilizing natural methane reserves is not a big climate risk, because the timescales are long and most gets oxidized before reaching the atmosphere.
bad news: we are running a live experiment to test this claim.

Take a look at Washington state, which was declared the "epicenter" of the outbreak in the US circa march 5th. Since then its starting to look exactly like Korea.
If the shadowstats numbers were correct it would mean the economy had contracted by about 90% since 1995. This is preposterous. Why do people pay attention to this?

Do they say LIV is "so friggin likely" before AND after they publish a letter, in a journal that will publish anything they say because of their official status, saying their expert opinion is that there is no LIV? Cause that's what happened here.
When Canadian soldiers landed at Juno Beach on June 6, 1944, they had the bad luck to face SS soldiers. The Canadians taken prisoner by the SS were tortured and executed. For a member of the SS to get a standing ovation in Canadian parliament is just staggering.

On behalf of all philosophers of science:
1. Please record your credences before and after you acquire each piece of scientific evidence.
2. please be clear which of your beliefs you hold because they have been confirmed, and which because they have yet to be falsified.
On behalf of all archaeologists, I've got two simple things to ask of you all:
1) Can you please leave your trash where you used it, so we've got some context for it all?
2) could you drop something imperishable that dates your trash assemblage? (A coin minted that year works)

There's no such thing as "the true motivation" for something that involves so many people. Everyone had a complex set of motives that aligned around the outcome.

If you decide who gets an offer in your dept based on their TY note, you are literally abusing your power of faculty governance. Dont do it. The state or institution you work for isnt paying people to suck up to you.
