Let me get this straight ๐ค
๐ It combats climate change
๐ It solves congestion
๐ณ It saves us money
๐ฅ It improves public health
๐ด It helps local businesses
๐ญ It cleans the air
... and we have to *campaign* for it?? Like. Lol ๐คช
Ask a grown up what is wrong with this photo and they'll point to the child being on the road. Possibly the lack of helmet or hi-viz jacket.
Ask a kid what's wrong with it and they'll tell you it's too many cars.
It's time we listened to the kids ๐
Terrible breaking news from Liverpool this morning. Horrendous on so many levels. Let's hope everyone is OK. Let's also hope for immediate and ruthless action to stop this from happening ever again
"I don't need to cycle, I go to the gym."
"But how do you get to the gym?"
"I drive."
"Why not cycle to the gym?"
"But then I wouldn't need to go to the gym!"
"Correct."
Happy to say that 453rd consecutive 'Drive to School Week' was a huge success. We hardly even needed to publicise it either. Great job everyone, see you all again next week! ๐
Bruh. Screaming 'HELMETS' from your crappy Astra while whipping by a father and two kids on a cargo bike is not making the contribution to road safety that you think it is ๐
Reader, I did not dismount. I did not use the footpath. I simply... cycled in the road.
Patronising innit. Deliberately designed to make cycling look like a childish pursuit ๐ถ
It makes the air cleaner.
It extends people's lives.
It cuts congestion.
It reduces noise pollution.
It's great for local businesses.
It cuts green house gases like nothing else.
And we have to *campaign* for it ๐คทโโ๏ธ
Cycling with kids isn't hard.
What *is* hard is plucking up the courage to do it when you're surrounded by a sea of cars and a culture that thinks this looks weird ๐
Someone I know gets up twice a week at 6am.
Drives 2 miles to the gym.
Does a spin class for an hour to get their exercise quota.
Drives home.
Drives 3 miles to their office.
People are weird.
"Hi [name of child],
I've read your letter with interest. You're right, the climate emergency is real. We must act!
Sadly, we just can't find any space on our medieval roads for a cycle lane.
Thanks for your interest & best wishes.
Yours,
[City/Council Leader]"
Welcome to Bath! One empty bus lane and one gridlocked mess crawling into the city. Well done
@bathnesld
@Wera_Hobhouse
squeezing us onto fewer roads is a disaster for business and residents.
@FreeBathStreets
Local school has emailed parents saying kids can't scoot or cycle to school without a helmet. Should I tag them on Monday and let Cycling Twitter eat them for breakfast?
๐ท Pedestrians: "No earphones! Look 6 times! Watch out for drivers on the pavement! No fun!"
๐ Drivers: "Who's excited about that 56" touch screen??"
It's a bit exhausting doing this each morning but someone needs to stand up and sort this shit out. Our roads are sewers of pollution, aggression and impatience. Shut the roads around primary schools asap
#SchoolStreets
My council urged us to ditch the car for short journeys. We've kept up our end of the bargain.
When do our leaders follow through on their promises and deliver safe routes for my family and our fellow citizens? ๐ค
We could spend trillions on clever little robots to shuttle our parcels around or we could make this a more acceptable and routine sight on our streets

โAn engineer designing from scratch could hardly concoct a better device to unclog modern roads โ cheap, nonpolluting, small and silentโฆโ

Ladies and gentlemen... the bicycle.
This narrow old bridge in Jesmond was awful for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians. Since Thursday it has been transformed by
@NewcastleCC
into a great route for active travel.
Certain drivers, a reminder: If the parked cars are on *your* side of the road, then you should give way to oncoming traffic... EVEN IF THAT TRAFFIC IS A FATHER & SON ON BICYCLES. Capeesh? ๐
A weird reality in my area. When the crushing school traffic disappears, the roads become safe enough for kids to ride on them. What if... we make a new kind of school traffic?
โSo, perhaps what angers me about footway parking is just how little people care about it. Whenever I see a car parked across the pavement on my walks around my ward, it reminds me of why I am angry.โโ ๐ฅโโ
@Layo_FH
The rider of this Sur Ron electric motorcycle thought he could ride dangerously through the city, pulling wheelies and riding on the pavement. He was introduced into the front of one of our new Volvos and arrested. He was already disqualified and wanted by Police in Scotland.
Do my eyes deceive me? ๐ฎ
"Pick-ups face huge tax hike as they lose commercial vehicle status"
This is amazing news for road danger reduction and pot hole haters ๐ Sales will fall through the floor, surely ๐ฅ
