An example of a pseudo-brain mechanism conjecture pretending to explain the large numbers of U.S. overdose deaths. True, a very large opioid dose can suppress respiration, but this isn’t the problem. Far more ppl use opioids safely. The problem is bad drug policy, period.

One of the ways opioids kill people is by their action on the brain sites for rhythmic & non-rhythmic breathing. They basically shut down the neural aspects that drive spontaneous breathing. This is not something easily overcome by conscious thought, hence the high death rates.

In #DrugUse4Grownups , I wrote about how Rahm Emanuel went to great lengths to cover up the murder of 17 yrs Laquan McDonald. He should not be rewarded with a public official position. This is sick.

I support President Biden’s nomination of my former colleague Rahm Emanuel to be Ambassador to Japan. I worked closely with him in Congress and when he served as Chief of Staff to President Obama. He has the experience necessary to advance our country’s strategic objectives.

I try to live my life such that evidence dictates my position, even when it makes me uncomfortable. Apparently, #druguseforgrownups makes some folks uncomfortable (esp. those who haven’t read the book). Perhaps this clip will lessen some discomfort.

Thank you for reading #DrugUse4GrownUps and for your kind words.🙏🏾 As you discovered, the gig is up regarding the lies told about the people who use & sell drugs. Most are kind, decent people merely pursuing happiness or relieving pain. Please continue to spread the word.

I am a responsible, functioning member of society, and I consume illegal drugs recreationally (on occasion) and without incident. If this sounds like you, read this book. If you think drugs are bad or have bias towards users, read this book. Thanks for a great read @drcarlhart

239 Days. That’s how long #BrittneyGriner has sat in a Russian prison. And for what? Possessing a psychoactive substance. She didn’t harm anyone. She certainly didn’t initiate a war in which countless ppl were killed. Yet, she remains incarcerated. What the f**K is wrong with us?

Yet another case in which someone is killed because they possessed a drug. Senseless, infuriating.
