ARRESTED: 40 year-old Anna Lushchinskaya was arrested by officers from Transit District 34 in Brooklyn and charged with felony assault in this case- Thank you to everyone who intervened and provided information
Some people may disagree - but transporting ziplock bags of marijuana & a digital scale in your backpack does not make you an essential traveler in the eyes of the Transit police. Hopping a turnstile while doing so didn’t help either. Nice grab by our District 1 team!
In calendar year 2023, NYPD cops made over 13,600 arrests in the subway system.
Of these 13,600 arrests, 124 people were arrested 5 or more times in the subway system in 2023 alone.
When looking further, these 124 people combined, have been arrested over 7,500 times in their…
When a 15 year-old girl in crisis was trying to jump from an elevated station last night, our team in Brooklyn was there for her- quickly saving her. She now has a shot at getting the care she needs, and our cops go home with smiles of relief that they were able to help.
Facts matter. Kudos to our cops for confronting unlawful behavior & acts of lawlessness head on. It’s what law abiding NY’ers expect, demand, & to be quite frank, deserve.
Our office has reached out to NYPD Transit District 30 about this cruel incident on the 7th Avenue F/G Station. This sort of violent broken windows policing does nothing to keep us safe. Assaulting someone for skipping a turnstile is an abuse of power by the NYPD.
A/C/F train riders, apologies for the delay- Dakota escaped from the dog park and- you guessed it- onto the tracks. Thank
@MTA
NYCT for the assist on the rescue, job well done by all, service back up & dog on the way to the vet for a minor injury- Appreciate everyone’s patience!
When people question the value of fare evasion enforcement - look no further than THIS example.
A convicted murderer (on parole) was packing heat when he beat the subway fare yesterday. He apparently didn’t get the memo that the NYPD is hyper focused on transit safety. He also…
This squared-away Transit cop with the sharp eyes is Officer Pardieu of District 4, who spotted a familiar face inside a train in Harlem. Attempts by the repeat felon to give a false name were futile as he was taken into custody & tied to several recent phone thefts from riders.
3 of our cops are in the local Dunkin/Baskin Robbins. A fella walks in, adjusts his pants & out drops a loaded gun on the floor. Now the repeat felon carrying it is in custody, all because a Transit cop had a craving for cake batter ice cream🍦 (seriously, this actually happened)
In uniform or in plainclothes - our officers are deployed to confront those who’d prey on NYers, just like when our District 20 team swooped in on a man who stole a sleeping 7-train rider’s phone. The repeat offender found himself in handcuffs before the victim was even awake.
Our thoughts are with Transit K9 handler Police Officer Tieniber this evening as he bid farewell to Champ - his partner of 5 years who sadly succumbed to a medical ailment this past weekend.
“Good boy Champ....good boy” - We’ll take it from here.
A heinous and unprovoked attack- The suspect was arrested moments later, charged with multiple counts of felony assault, menacing, and criminal possession of a weapon, and is currently awaiting prosecution
Crazy morning.. thank you
@NYCTSubway
and
@NYPDnews
for keeping the folks on my downtown C train safe this morning. I’ve never seen someone use a cat as a weapon, but yes that did happen and yes it was terrifying and yes I still love living here.
Recently shared body-worn camera footage shows light-footed Officers Brown & Harris chasing down a subway cellphone snatcher. Leading the chase was a 17-year veteran, whose breakaway speed bested a teenage thief 25 years his junior. Great job by our District 33 team!
When a woman became separated from her elderly father, she flagged down officers at the West 4 St station. After hearing a description of the 90-year-old vet, this team of Transit cops set off in search, found the man & escorted him on a train ride to reunite with his daughter.
A final salute to Transit Canine ‘Axle’ by his 2 and 4-legged colleagues. With longtime partner Officer Nunez by his side, Axle succumbed earlier today to a battle with cancer. Rest easy pup, we’ll take it from here.
If anyone is curious what your NYPD cops are doing … well … they’re doing their jobs! They’ve arrested these 38 individuals a combined total of 1,126 times! The better question is why are they forced to arrest these people so many times & where are the consequences for their…
Last year, 38 individuals accounted for assaulting 60

employees. Those 38 individuals have been arrested 1,126 times combined.

Earlier today, Officer Tavarez saw something that didn’t feel right on a subway platform, he inquired with a lady if she was okay, & she revealed she’d just been groped. The suspect (a repeat offender) tried to flee but was quickly arrested.
A commotion caught our train patrol team’s eyes as they were pulling into Flatbush Avenue’s terminal station. Our District 32 officers hurried to the fracas, placed a 26-year-old suspect under arrest for robbery and recovered the victim’s stolen wallet.

Make no mistake about it, your cops are doing their job! Now it’s up to the rest of the criminal justice system to do theirs.
On Monday, Transit cops arrested a 38-year-old career criminal after he forcibly robbed a straphanger of his cellphone in Manhattan. He was released…
Tonight and every night, our officers remain committed to seeing passengers safely to their destinations. On this Christmas Eve we wish each of you the very best - safe travels and a very Merry Christmas!

Another example of a fare evasion stop leading to a quality arrest:
- Wanted for assault of an elderly man
- Carrying a stolen loaded gun
- In possession of a felony amount of heroin
Great work by your Transit cops for making our subway, and City, safer.
Our Canine Unit lines up for a final salute to Canine Ellis, who has succumbed to incurable illness- Ellis protected our city during dignitary, presidential, and state visits and searched our subways for explosive devices- Our very best to Officer Kevin Belavsky and his family ❤️
K9 Zada is locked in & focused for her debut on

Tune into ESPN2 on 11/28 @ 10pm (check local listings) to see our team in action!
Coming soon! In our effort to capitalize on emerging technology, & to maximize public safety in the subway system, you will soon see our newest rookie, officer K5, patrolling our transit system - offering you an additional layer of security & assistance.
Right place, right time!
Today,
@NYPDTransit
officers were strategically deployed to patrol the platform at the Times Square subway station. They were alerted by a straphanger that a 17-year-old was having a dispute while holding a gun & quickly arrested him.
Fantastic work by your Transit cops when they encountered a group of teens committing fare evasion. Our ATU team immediately recognized them as those sought for a series of robberies, coordinated an arrest plan & took them all into custody without incident.
Posted on a Harlem subway platform, the cries for help from a couple on the opposite platform prompted our officer’s response. A man was soon taken into custody and the knife he used to menace the (now much relieved) couple recovered. Well done Transit District 3.
On their very first day on train patrol, our District 2 rookies & their training officer were flagged down for a despondent man in distress on an E-train. Our team began life-saving procedures, ultimately bringing the young man back to consciousness. Great way to start a career!
1 o’clock in the morning, Officer Converso and his partner’s alertness & quick intervention on a Bronx subway platform led to the arrest of a career criminal who groped a female rider just moments earlier. Well done by our District 12 uniform patrol team.
Visibly shaken after being robbed on a sidewalk, a woman walked into the District 12 stationhouse seeking help - help is what she found in the form of these 2 officers, who combed the neighborhood, found the man responsible (a repeat offender) and recovered the woman’s property.
NYPD officers are riding the rails, inspecting trains, walking the platforms, and patrolling the gateways of this ‘city within a city’ that is our NYC subway system.
When an
@AmericanAir
flight attendant was assaulted by an unruly passenger, Officer Dhanpath intervened, de-escalated the chaotic situation, and turned the suspect over upon arrival at JFK. We’re proud of the professionalism our Transit officers show- below ground and above.
Even our four-legged partners sometimes go unnoticed on train patrol, but it’s just another day traveling across the city as the subways are open 24/7 and New Yorkers

this Memorial Day weekend 🇺🇸
Thanks to the sharp eyes of our Transit intel officers, a man who picked the pocket of an elderly victim didn’t get far. The man was nabbed by our District 2 team as he was attempting to make a purchase using the victim’s credit card. Great job!
This guy is the poster child for negative perception & fear in the subways. If anyone is asking what your cops are doing, we've arrested this guy 55 times. The better question is WHY are we arresting him 55 times, where is the accountability? via
@nypmetro
As part of the subway safety plan, transit officers are deployed at terminal stations on the overnight hours. So when PO Tanagretta saw a rider in distress, she took action via a dose of narcan, reviving the lady & ensured she received additional medical aid at an area hospital.
While patrolling a Bronx subway station, District 12 Officers Gonzalez & Sugrim heard the screams of a lady who’d just been the victim of an iPhone snatch. After a foot pursuit & with the help of several good samaritans, our cops nabbed the thief & recovered the victim’s phone.
As part of our efforts to curb lushworkers from preying on nighttime riders, this District 32 team was on train patrol at 2 am when they heard a commotion & swooped in to arrest a wanted robbery suspect committing yet another robbery. Outstanding & impactful apprehension!
Less than a week after his arrest for robbing an elderly man in a Chinatown subway station, the suspect was back at it - robbing yet another elderly victim. On both occasions, our Transit District 4 team was able to track down the parolee responsible. Keep at it officers!
Recently, Transit officers saw two men fighting near a Brooklyn train station and ran to intervene. Our District 34 team soon learned they’d interrupted a robbery and recognized one of the men as a suspect wanted for a subway groping from days earlier. Great apprehension!
Today, a son said farewell to a loving father, a wife to a devoted husband, colleagues to a brother-in-arms, and a Brooklyn community to a beloved neighbor.
A final salute to Thomas Marrinan - a retired Transit cop whose final act was protecting others.
Assembly Member — Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Know this — the officers you see in this photo are all part of the enhanced supplemental police coverage we have deployed into the subway system to advance public safety (and it’s working - crime was down 15% in…
Subway quality-of-life engagement = bad guy off the streets.
A man laying down across several seats on a 1-train garnered the attention of our train patrol team. A look at the man’s face jogged PO Hasnay’s memory. Turns out he’s wanted in connection to 3 gunpoint ATM robberies.
A switchblade knife in the hands of a man with a past record of threatening New Yorkers with a knife is not a good thing. Thanks to our proactive Train Patrol member here, the individual was stopped and the weapon removed from the subway system.
Some heads-up train patrol by our Bronx Transit team who spotted several teens in an adjacent train car crowd a straphanger. Officer Alkadi recognized the tell-tale signs of a robbery about to occur & moved in to intervene as the culprits pounced, quickly making the arrest.

The video does not show the entire incident. The female attempted to jump the turnstile. The officer then approached her & instructed her to enter properly by swiping her MetroCard. She refused & was physically removed from the station. No summons was issued.
A harrowing 911 call of a scootering child whose leg was left bleeding heavily after being caught by a passing train. Officers Valverde & Guan arrive on scene and put their training to work, applying a tourniquet & likely saving the 5-year-old boy’s life. This is
#NYPDProtecting
Why a man on probation & arrested for 2 recent transit robberies was back in the subway system at 3am was clear, he was looking to victimize yet another NYer-but our District 20 team wouldn’t have it, arresting him moments after he ‘lushed’ a bag from a sleeping rider. Great job!
A crowded train car is no excuse for an inappropriate touch - Moments after witnessing a woman get groped onboard a 7-train, these Queens Transit officers stepped in and quickly took the suspect into custody. Truly impactful police work.
Transit cops assigned to train patrol confronted a man urinating in between train cars last night, only to learn he was wanted for a bank robbery (at Capitol One) just last week.
The headlines almost write themselves:
•from hold-up to not holding it in
•urine a wee bit of…
While patrolling a subway platform in the South Bronx, our District 11 officer heard a commotion and went to investigate - and soon had a repeat Transit offender in custody for stealing a phone from a 😴 passenger. Great apprehension!
What began as a quality-of-life stop by Transit officers became something a bit more serious with the discovery of a metal knuckle knife…which led to the loaded gun. Textbook subway policing by our District 33 team results in a firearm AND a repeat offender off the streets.
A New Yorker saw something (the butt of a gun) and said something - which brought a rapid response from our District 4 patrol team to a midtown subway station. Our officers zeroed in on the suspect and recovered an imitation pistol from the career criminal’s waistband. Well done!
@JulianCastro
What the video doesn't show is a credible witness alerting our officers to a man brandishing a gun. When officers approached the man in question, he fled into a subway station and onto a train to escape. Minutes later, officers at the next station took him into custody.
Reports of a woman being robbed had Officer Ortez of District 33 racing to an East New York subway station one recent evening. Thankfully, the crook (a repeat robbery offender) didn’t get too far and was taken into custody outside the station. Well done.
The distinct sound of the end doors of a subway car opening, may just be Transit officers coming through on a train patrol. Whether you notice them or not, they’re there to get millions of subway riders to their destinations safely each day.
A loaded gun almost made its way into our subway system. But thanks to these cops, the fare evader who was carrying it was stopped & discovered to have a warrant. No stranger to gun charges, the repeat felon tried fighting his way out of the arrest, but was taken into custody.
1 loaded gun
➕
12 magazines
➕
300+ rounds of ammunition
Proactive police work by Transit officers early this morning resulted in this alarming seizure. Whatever the man’s intentions, it’s an illegal weapon that has no place in our city, much less our subway system.
Impactful arrests often start from seemingly minor interactions. Case in point: our ATU train inspection team observe a man blasting music from a large speaker on a train, to the discomfort of fellow passengers & the conductor. Turns out the man was wanted for attempted murder.
A registered sex offender out on parole was back in the subways victimizing yet another unsuspecting rider on the 7-train. Thankfully our Queens Transit officers saw the act & quickly intervened. The 62-year-old repeat offender now faces felony charges of Persistent Sex Abuse.
A career felon found himself back on the wrong side of the law this morning when a train patrol team saw a gun peeking out of his waistband - its recovery all the more easier because the man was asleep. Sharp eyes, a quick apprehension, and a gun off the streets. Well done TD-20!
Seconds after a 28-year-old repeat offender snatched the wallet of an elderly man almost 50 years his senior at the subway turnstiles, our District 4 team had the culprit in custody. The suspect was charged with Grand Larceny & Possession of Stolen Property & released with a DAT.
We’re just 2 weeks into 2022 and a man has already been arrested 4 times in Manhattan (twice for robbery & twice for theft) - the latest as a result of great District-level investigative work to help close a subway robbery within 48 hours. Great follow-up by our District 3 NCOs.
Transit officers patrolling a Washington Heights subway station confronted a man committing a subway violation and immediately recognized him as a suspect wanted for 2 felony assault incidents on the street. Great awareness & a quick apprehension by our District 3 NCOs.
Holy smokes! When your Transit cops stopped a man for vaping in the subway, they learned he was wanted for a 2020 murder on a Queens sidewalk. Thanks to the District 34 NCO team’s quality-of-life-work, that's one less dangerous person riding our subway.
Before passing judgment on our officers based on a snippet of video that only shows the final moments of a long struggle with a violent parolee, please view this video of the incident in its entirety.
(1/3) On Tuesday, 2/16 as police were escorting the suspect for smoking on the platform out of the transit system, the suspect attacked the officers on the stairs. The suspect ends up on top of one of the officers, assaults the officer, as the other officers fight back.
Another example of a seemingly minor enforcement encounter becoming so much more. Kudos to our ATU officers for confronting a turnstile jumper in Manhattan, only to recognize him as the man wanted for the unprovoked assault of an elderly straphanger in Queens. Well done team.
We are aware of a video that has surfaced on various social media platforms showing an individual kicking a fellow subway rider in the Bronx. Our
@NYPDDetectives
are on the case and actively investigating this heinous assault.
From commercial robbery to shoplifting, a repeat offender’s done it all in 2022. Thankfully his streak of victimizing NYers came to an end on the 6-train when our District 12 train patrol officers stepped in to arrest the man, moments after he robbed a straphanger of her money.
When TD-11 Officers Sosa & Bove saw a boy boarding a train by himself in the Bronx, they knew something was awry. After a brief talk, they learned the special-needs child left home w/o permission. A stop at a hospital to get checked out & the boy was soon reunited with grandma.
A cellphone in a straphanger’s hand proved too enticing an opportunity for a thief the other evening. Thankfully, our District 2 officers were on the case, tracking down the career criminal and returning to phone to its rightful owner. Well done.
It’s
@Yankees
opening day weekend and our canine team is ready to work. Should a baseball come sailing over the stadium walls…we’re 99.9999% certain K9 Ruoto won’t go chasing after it.
Thanks to these Transit cops, a thief who stole a rider’s credit cards & phone was nabbed hours later using those cards to make fraudulent purchases. The thief was ultimately tied to a 2nd subway phone theft. This arrest comes weeks after the 25 y/o was arrested for a loaded gun.
Thanks to the speedy response of Officer Mohr of District 34, one of our ‘repeat customers’ (and known gang member) was taken into custody after stealing an elderly passenger’s phone as he slept on an R-train. The 39-year-old thief has since been charged with robbery 3°
When a female straphanger was recently groped in a Bronx subway station, she flagged down our District 12 team who quickly moved in to take the offender into custody. Truly impactful work.
Zero hesitation by Transit cops to the sound of gunfire erupting from a dispute outside a Harlem subway station. Officers Ryan & Kastrati gave chase, even as the fleeing suspect fired at them, thankfully the gun-toting felon was outmatched and chased down several blocks away.
It must’ve been a harrowing call for our 911 operator to hear & relay - a report by a straphanger of a man swinging an axe on an A-train. Thankfully with our enhanced deployment, District 23 officers were at the ready, intercepting the moving train & taking the man into custody.
