Another day of mixed emotions. Personally have vaccinated another 119 people😁. One sadly in tears told us she had just heard her 35 year old friend had died of Covid (sadly unvaccinated). At the other end we had so many happy people thanking us for our efforts. Repeat tomorrow!

Chart brings home my time in NHS. I started with long waiting lists in the 1980's - 18 months for hip. Then Thatcher night of the long knives where staff were cut. Then Blair/Brown. Those were amazing years - I did not believe we could get those waiting lists down but we did! 1/3

not vaccinated depends on their role. If patient facing then there is a huge problem. A Consultant Anaesthetist or Intensivist could be assigned to teaching/university roles in some hospitals. In others? A colleague said 'an expensive teaboy'. Feel free to report me to the GMC.

So I am happy for Dr James to stamp his feet and say he is against compulsory vaccination for NHS staff, that is his right. However as a CD I would have already been chatting to him about his long term plan. 98% of the staff in my Trust are vaccinated or on route. 3/n

I do not have 'covid anxiety'. I have a 30 year old daughter who has lost her job due to long covid. I know that it is prevalent in the UK throughout the year - not just Winter. I know variants are escaping our immunity. I know each infection increases risk of long term effects

The difference is they were scared but wanted the protection the vaccine could give as they knew the alternative could be much worse. Dr James appears fit, he has seen all his colleagues being vaccinated but still chooses to avoid that choice. However that is just the start 5/n

in January then 2nd in March with booster around September. For the record current guidance is 8 weeks between first 2 doses then 91 days till the booster. Currently the booster is holding up well and fundamentally it is protecting people against hospital and ICU admission. 8/n

by the end of Blair Brown era they were typically 18 weeks. Any wait longer than 4 hours in A&E was fully examined for fault and to see what we could do better. Things got done, good ideas for improvement got funded, we had education programmes on improvement based on best 2/n

Started our hospital vaccination hub on Monday and from the start insisted everyone wear masks when in the hub. All staff have been happy to comply. Glad to say today the Trust has declared that we are back to wearing masks in all clinical areas from Monday. Good decision!

The vaccination programme has been underpinned by retired docs, nurses, pharmacists, midwives to name but a few. Currently we don't know what is happening with our temporary 'registration'. If this is removed we can no longer help. Rumour is it will be removed...spot the problem?

you have the right to deny choice to any human who is 16 or older. If our children want to be vaccinated then you have no right to deny them this choice. I will go further - if parents and their children aged 12 agree they should have the vaccine then you have no right 4/6

A young woman came to our vaccination clinic asking if we could vaccinate the general public. Our first answer had to be no as we don't - however something about her made me ask why she was asking. Turns out her husband had just been diagnosed with terminal cancer. It was sorted!

A funny thing. I have never lost my WhatsApp messages when I have changed phones. I always believed they are held online and can only be lost by deleting them on purpose. I now use WhatsApp on computer as well as my phone. Perhaps I'm not technical enough and I have this wrong?

Then the cost cutting austerity years - I worked hard to try to maintain services while making huge savings. Not easy when over 70% of costs are your staff...so pressure to look at using cheaper staff or working with fewer staff! All the time there are new things we can do 2/3

@chrischirp @davidmichaelbr That's the nub of it. We know what to do to limit spread but the decision has been made not to. While in France they vaccinate the children, have masks in schools and are paying attention to ventilation. CO2 monitors are no good if you don't do anything about the results 😩🤬

I have to agree with this. I cannot believe some of what we witnessed today and how well Nicola dealt with it. I am also amazed at the media reporting - but then I suppose I shouldn't be given their paymasters. She was head and shoulders above what we had down here in England.

I am pissed off with the Paediatricians in the UK who set themselves against their colleagues in the US & other countries. The delay (& denial) of vaccination in children in the UK is down to Paeds & the HART Group. This needs its own investigation in the Public Inquiry. 3/n

that can include for an overnight stay for a preop assessment visit. In Exeter they have created an amazing Hip and Knee replacement facility from what was a Covid nightingale hospital. All patients are done as a day case or 1 night overnight stay and they love it. 10/n

The vaccine will protect the high risk and reduce the NHS strain. After roll out, we should end the restrictions and move from government control to individual choice. We must also address the collateral damage from lockdowns - non Covid treatment delays and economic damage.

@chrischirp I have met so many people suffering from the after effects of Covid while I have been vaccinating. The breadth of conditions is enormous and each is debilitating in its own way. From the brain fog, lethargy, dyspnoea, heart problems, arthritis, gut problems - so many issues. 😢

Hospitals setting up 'ethical review groups' to urgently review which patients meet treatment criteria and which go for palliation. Hospitals filled to capacity and staff working under extreme conditions that would make earlier this year look like a picnic. Get a grip 10/n
