Everything old Ladybird books & their artists. A labour of love, not a job. ‘The Wonderful World of the Ladybird Artists' from 19th Jan @ Victoria Gallery, Bath
Let me share today’s “Wow!” moment.
I bid on this lot because no one else did. Books described as in only “good condition, some torn”.
Arrived today. 50 books, most pre-1964, most with original dustwrappers. Excellent condition- and all settling in well to their new home☺️
A few years ago in a charity shop, I saw this book - reduced in price because of the ‘untidy inscription’.
They should have put the price up, for the same reason
A tiny part of me still hasn’t absolutely given up hope that one day, when I really, really need it, The Elves will turn up and help out.

These books don’t look new so were due to be binned by a charity shop.
Cathy, who volunteers there, rescued them - they reached me today.
Here in Ladybird Land, Cathy is a hero
A neighbour told me that her daughter had a few Ladybird books she was happy to give me.
I went to collect them - expecting 2 or 3 well-worn books (which I would have appreciated).
Instead this was the box
Artist Eric Winter was so good at depicting the look and feel of fine fabrics - silk and satin.
It made such an impression on us young readers

The Ladybird telling of Elves and the Shoemaker is set at Christmas time. It’s surely the kindest of all the fairy tales - a story of giving and gratitude with no villains.
