I love the lack of generational wealth in SF. In NYC/LA, even if someone's parents aren't paying their rent, their future is "set" no matter what happens with their startup. SF is full of hustlers, with no backup plan. The difference in hunger and ambition is real.

2/ Games can enable NFT buying in-app purchases: This is hugely important clarification. Developers can leverage IAP (30% Apple fee) to sell NFTs or offer NFT services (minting, listing, transferring). This paves the way for NFTs as the gateway into crypto for mobile players.

Payments is the most obvious use case in crypto that no one talks about. Just domestically -- ACH/wires are slow, RTP is a dumpster fire, Visa is a greedy gatekeeper, all the P2P apps are walled gardens. International is worse. ETH was too slow and expensive. But with L2s...

Early-stage investors focus on the wrong things. 90% of questions at pre-seed/seed are about the product, the gtm, the pricing model. These are learned iteratively with new data. In fact, strong opinions here can be indicative of hubris, inflexibility, and likelihood to fail.

Biggest takeaway from NFT NYC and crypto broadly -- It's time to think bigger. In 2017, we lacked tech but not ambition: Sovereign identity, cross-border remittance, fast & interoperable payment rails, etc. PFPs are ok but we have battle-tested tech and A+ founders now. LFG 🚀

DeFi needs a new narrative. Catering to a tiny audience of ultra-rich crypto whales was never the path to building generational businesses. Would love to hear thoughts / meet companies working on de novo things in the space.

Being great at hiring = millions of dollars for a founder. The math? 3rd party recruiting costs: * 10 hires, avg. $150k salary = $375k. * 25 hires, avg. $150k salary = nearly $1mm * Over a career = millions / tens of millions. Build a network, treat people well, be proactive.

Many investors don't appreciate the variability in how a bear market affects certain sectors in crypto. For instance, you can build a DeFi protocol with $2-3mm. You can't build a AAA game with $2-3mm. The path to funding for entire sectors just got more difficult.
