Sex 'emerged in ancient Scottish lake'. Scientists believe they’ve discovered the origin of sex. A fish called Microbrachius dicki is the first known animal to stop reproducing by spawning & instead mate by having sex 385 million yrs ago in Scotland.

When high profile Brits or Americans get their Irish citizenship our national media goes doolally! Since yesterday, I’ve been piled on by racists. Is this because I’m not white? Wrong type of Irish? Or I’m not American diaspora? This tweet celebrates my fellow non-white Irish! 😘

Walking home from gym, I saw a Mum forcing her son, as you do, (prob a UCC student) to take some cash, he reluctantly accepted, she gave him hug and kiss. So moved I was, a lump in my throat thinking about when I’d see my Mum in Glasgow again. Difficult days ahead. Love more.

Thank you to vast majority of folks who sent me good wishes and love on becoming Irish. I’m shocked and disgusted at the few narrow-minded, racist, Islamophobes who we must continue to counter with a broader, more inclusive understanding of being Irish. No to hate in Ireland. 1/3

As a British citizen, I’m deeply saddened that the UK leaves the European Union today. I feel very European - with roots in Scotland, Pakistan and now in Ireland. I submitted my application for Irish citizenship by naturalisation a few months ago. European diverse identities!

Mum’s saag ghosht (spinach and lamb curry) and hand buttered roti is delicious! Cherishing these moments in Glasgow before returning to Cork soon.

Irish Twitter commenting on USA tonight need to start using the term used pretty clearly tonight on CNN...white supremacy. Racism is real. It’s unfolding right in front of us and our friends in the USA are naming it as such so why are we still unable to name this for what it is?

I feel extremely blessed to be at a Irish university where senior leadership acknowledge not only that racism exists but of white privilege. A huge step forward. After a meeting today, I drove home in tears of joy that maybe… just maybe we might stamp out racism in Ireland. ✊🏾

Every time I go to my office I see the security alarm button all because an Irish terrorist decided to target me in 2019. Since that day my life changed. It was my calling for change - for every black, asian & minority ethnic staff/student who is the target of racism in Ireland.

I’m tired but not giving up on responding to racist, Islamophobic hate. Every single day. I speak up on enhancing Ireland as a diverse & inclusive country. I’m a head of a dept at an Irish university so I cannot imagine what others without my platform or privilege live through.

A 24-year-old black man who was once told by a teacher "people like you don’t become barristers" has qualified as a legal professional and been called to the bar.

Offensive. Shocking. We must counter these ridiculous statements with equality, diversity and inclusion. I am proud, equally - of my Scottish and Pakistani identity. Now living in Ireland, I’d like to believe that a hurley can bridge our worlds closer.

My mum, born in Sialkot Pakistan in 1945 (approx because there is no birth certificate) refuses to sit in a box and tells the Dublin waiter that she’s been in Glasgow for over 50 years and adds “I’m like yer granny”. The colours of identity are pure dead brilliant! 🫶🏾

Thank you to my university colleague who sent these delicious Cork chocolates to cheer me up. It’s been a horrible week but racists in Ireland - you will never win. Eat chocolate, spread the smiles and look after each other. Love wins.

Thank you darlings who wrote publicly & privately on countering #racism in #Ireland . We need to work on this. We need anti-racist education across all sectors of Irish society. We need words & actions from our leaders. I reported that letter to Guards. I’ll fight racism, will you?

I extend an invite to our Cork Cllr. to my classes to better understand Sharia. The situation in Afghanistan brings back the most ridiculous Islamophobia. We need better educated Irish politicians. Cork politician criticised over refugee and Sharia post
