Officer Evans was often at that barricade when we arrived for work. He was so friendly and professional, and seeing him was always a plus. Today is a very sad day.
I am heartbroken that Officer Evans was killed today in the line of duty. On this Good Friday, let's all pray for healing for the surviving officer, comfort for Officer Evans’s family, and for all the officers and families of the United States Capitol Police.

"This morning, the Judiciary Committee reported the nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the floor. Their recommendation was that she be confirmed. It was unanimous."
The Senate vote FAILS 47-47, falling short of the 60 needed to advance the coronavirus relief package.
Democrats blocked it out of objections to the GOP bill.
Gardner, Lee, Paul, Romney, Scott and Sanders didn’t vote.
McConnell switched his vote so he can bring it up again.

will move to adjourn the Senate tonight until after the election.
If they are successful, the Senate will not be able to vote on COVID relief tomorrow and Wednesday.
"Folks, this is what a mom can do," said Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, while marveling at Barrett's record that led to her nomination to the highest court of the land.

I am encouraged that Democrats have finally agreed to reopen the Paycheck Protection Program and abandon a number of their unrelated demands. My full statement on Congress’s new bipartisan agreement to provide additional small-business support, more funding for testing, and more:

"President Trump has stated he will announce his nominee to the Supreme Court the day after tomorrow. We do not yet know which legal all-star from his list he will nominate.
But strangely enough, we already do know exactly what the far left will start shouting."
Even before McConnell introduces this new COVID-19 relief bill, Pelosi & Schumer say it is "headed nowhere" and the bill is "laden with poison pills"
Both leaders say the bill is just "intended to help vulnerable Republican Senators" instead of the American people.

"We could have passed hundreds of billions of dollars in relief more than a month ago. But our Democratic colleagues voted in lock step to filibuster the relief and kill the bill."
A timely reminder after Dems posturing during last week's hearing.
Planning a cookout this year? Ketchup on the news. According to the Farm Bureau, the cost of a 4th of July BBQ is down from last year. It’s a fact you must-hear(d). Hot dog, the Biden economic plan is working. And that’s something we can all relish.
Reporters and editors! Unless the

For everyone tweeting about the Senate adjourning, a friendly reminder:
Republicans tried to move this, twice.
Democrats blocked us, twice.
And we'll see what time the House adjourns tomorrow.
Trump confirms he supports a "temporary extension of expanded unemployment benefits" -- which run out tomorrow -- although he doesn't give a per-week figure.

While we have made progress much more needs to be done to improve people’s lives. This election is crucial: nothing less is at stake than our Democracy.
But we don’t agonize-we organize. I am running for re-election to Congress to deliver For The People and defend Democracy. -NP

now moving to adjourn the Senate until after the election. This would prevent two votes on COVID relief scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday.
Stop me if I've used this one before.
At approximately 10:30 tonight, your United States Senate will have two votes on The CARES Act:
Sasse Amendment
Final Passage
BOTH votes will require 60 votes
“What the heck is all this other stuff? Can it pass the Senate?” asked Rep. Kurt Schrader (D-Ore.), noting that Democrats added hundreds of pages from their earlier draft. “It really keeps changing.”
JUDGE BARRETT: Judicial activism is bad from either side. No matter what somebody's policy preferences are about the ACA, I agree with you, they should not undermine the policy that Congress enacted. We agree on that and I embrace that view of a judges' role wholeheartedly.

Slipped through a cloture motion last night.

has done something I've never seen in over 17 years of flacking: run a piece where the two principals of the story BOTH go on the record to deny the bad facts / rumors, but the anonymous sources prevail and a false story runs.
Pretty embarrassing if you ask me.
SCOOP: Josh Hawley was booted from his perch on the powerful Armed Services panel last month as retribution for delaying the confirmation of numerous DOD nominees last year, and for his role in challenging Mitch McConnell’s hold as the chamber’s top R.
The sound you hear when you read this is story is the non-existent leverage the Speaker and Minority Leader claimed they had, going up in a cloud of smoke.
McConnell: "The Senate is going to vote on this targeted proposal. We are going to get the stonewalling of Democratic leaders out from behind closed doors and put this to a vote on the floor."
"Pelosi seems to have overplayed her hand as she held out for $2 trillion-plus right up until the election. The results of the election, which saw Democrats lose seats in the House, appear to have significantly undercut her position..."
Jake is right. It's never becoming law.
But Senate / House GOP happy to pass judgement on its contents (lib wish list on steroids), the wisdom of doing it (A+ for political posturing), and many other things (LOL).
Since there seems to be a lot of misunderstanding here, the $3-trillion House Democratic coronavirus bill does not stand a chance to become law.
I’m not passing judgement on its contents, the wisdom of doing it or anything of that nature. It’s just not going to become law.
In our new poll with
