Football plan - get ok from state Tuesday - start practice on Wednesday - allow two a days both Saturday & Sunday (waive the off day) and start play on Friday the 18th - 8 game regular season then 16 team playoff in each bracket - season ends December 3-4th.

Strong prayers sent to Wiley High School and community. Tucked in Southeast Colorado near Lamar, four of their students died in a car accident last night. A fifth remains in critical condition.

We at Colorado Preps and
@MileHighSports
are devastated by the loss of our friend and longtime
@CHSAA
assistant commissioner Bert Borgmann. Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.

Colorado Preps is very excited to announce that very soon our website will return to free status - thanks mainly to a generous sponsorship of Colorado Farm Bureau. A new design is also coming before the return of HS Sports next month. More news coming soon.
This has been a tumultuous week for sure - but can we take a minute or so to thank administrators, coaches, players, parents, media, stadium & game workers & all those that have shown great flexibility in changing football schedules so kids get the opportunity to play.

Savion Lowe was a senior football player at Skyline HS - he passed away earlier today and a go fund me page has been set up on his behalf. Hope you can click the link and contribute to assist his family in this time of need.

Getting some information on a meeting between a Superintendent's group, the state health department and CHSAA tomorrow. The topic of course is the mask requirement for basketball. More coming soon.
Lamar is not completely done with their battle to play at the state volleyball tournament. School officials and parents working with local health department on a solution. Cory Forgue at KLMR radio is keeping us up to date and doing excellent work down there.

Heard from following schools that they're playing football in Season A (Fall)
Durango
Roosevelt
Alamosa
Banning Lewis
CS Christian
Crowley County
Florence
Wiggins
Simla
Granada
Idalia
Will continue to update....
Some college program needs to give Ratowksy a chance to play - yes he's not the right size but his heart is - and loves the game of football - tremendous effort tonight.
#copreps
Serious question on football - if a player transfers to a surrounding state that is on schedule to compete this fall - would they be eligible for football in Colorado next spring? Have already had that question posed to us.
Another concern for pushing fall sports back - will that hurt some kids and their chances for college scholarships. Will those spots be taken up by kids across the country that will play and be evaluated this fall?
Wrapped our 19th year for the Colorado Preps Scoreboard Show today - quick thank you to the over 100 hundred coaches that joined us for interviews this season and also all the score reporters that helped us track the games. Enjoy the next two weeks!

2A BOYS: Yuma will finish off the double-double for Indians - first program in Colorado history to go back-to-back in both boys and girls in the same two years
#copreps
Both sides is the key. I honestly believe 80 percent of the country could get along just fine except for the extreme 10 percent in each side. And unfortunately media gives the 10 percent the most attention. And they do it for ratings and money. Not for truth.
I'm speechless.
Sitting here with my daughters watching television.
Some of the lunatics l'm seeing on TV right now - I mean - how did we get to this?
How did we allow this?
How do we fix this?
We are letting radicals and conspiracy theorists (both sides) ruin this country.
We've been told a meeting between a Superintendent's Advocacy group and the Colorado Department of Health is set for Thursday. The topic is masks for basketball. An invitation has also been sent to Rhonda Blanford-Green from CHSAA.
#copreps
Sending out a request for folks to sign up to become an official - almost begging - at least two games have been delayed tonight because they're waiting for officials to arrive from another game. We desperately need new bodies to step in!
#copreps
Not just football but every coach I visit with has told me there are kids that wouldnโt be in school without sports. Without sports, music and other extra curricular society may lose them forever.
@CoachHylland
And what helps them become these things? Self discipline, ability to work with others, leadeship skills. All taught by football and by football coaches. Wake up man!
So Broncos can have fans as long as groups are in 175 or less - that could be done with prep sports as well - 175 fans on one side of the stadium - another 175 on the home side - or even split them up in more groups in larger stadiums.
Vista Peak and Prairie View boys basketball teams announced today they're done for the season. Hope they are the last to go into quarantine at the wrong time - but with current guidelines - I highly doubt it. This has to change!
#copreps
2A BOYS: Coach Dave Sheffield lands his fifth state title - had three in Class 1A with Hi Plains - last two with Yuma last two years - last three at the Loveland Events Center
#copreps
Composite rankings - credit my guys that ran through all the numbers this year - our projected composite rankings for both boys and girls matched up exactly with the official numbers posted this morning!
#copreps
Let's wait a bit for celebrating football, field hockey and dance/cheer. I'm trying to verify if the CHSAA Board of Directors must vote again to approve the changes/sports for the option to play in the fall.
Eads won both boys and girls basketball championships in 2003 - hadn't been done again until tonight and it's happened twice - Grandview took both crowns in 5A and Yuma doubles up in 2A - congrats to both clubs
#copreps
Governor also says the state is opening to hearing a proposal from CHSAA regarding the restart of some prep sports - for the districts who are ready to get started.
Think this is a positive sign for prep sports to resume this fall - at least ones that are played outdoors. If safe to attend a pro football game - then it's safe to play sports on the high school level.
JUST IN: Fans will be able to attend Broncos home games starting Sept. 27 against Tampa Bay, Gov. Polis is expected to announce

Another concern with football in the spring - weather in the high country and San Luis Valley. Heavy snow is normal in March/April and it's very difficult to make up a football game if roads/passes are closed for 2-3 days.
Sophomore Evan Larrick scored 11 touchdowns in Wileyโs 72-22 win over Las Animas last Friday. Nine came on the ground and two came in receptions.

@chsaa
@WileyBasketball
Governor answers a question on prep sports - says his answer is absolutely yes on football for those districts who are ready - but also mentions that football should also be allowed in Season C for those districts who are not ready.
And forget to mention officials - games are added at the last minute, sites and times are changed and yet we have crews on hand to get the game done. Hat tip there as well.

Six schools sent both their boys and girls basketball teams to the Great Eight this year
5A: Grandview
4A: Pueblo South
4A: Pueblo West
4A: Widefield
2A: Yuma
1A: Heritage Christian

Also hearing the Governor's office went public with the press release before or at the same exact time they gave written approval to CHSAA. If true, not a good look. Because of the recent mess, it would have been great to see a UNIFIED release - just my opinion.
Motion has been made at the CHSAA Board meeting to allow schools to decide which season to compete in football, field hockey and cheer/dance sideline only. This would also approve the variances agreed to by the Governor.
For those hoping for a decision on football this weekend (including me) please note the survey sent to ADs Friday night has a deadline for return at 10am on Monday. May be awhile so enjoy the weekend.
1A Volleyball: Kit Carson is your state champion
sweep Fleming 25-9, 25-18, 25-11
First state title since 2006
Finish 28-0 with out losing a set

@KMichael84
Other than football, club sports already are more important than high school sports. These decisions are just going to further strengthen them and weaken high school.
The meeting between Superintendents and the state health department did not result in any changes to the mask regulations for basketball. Competitors and all folks in the gym will still be required to wear masks. Still up to local districts/counties on whether fans can attend.
A near fatal accident. Six broken bones. Two brain bleeds. COVID. Paonia's Anthony Miller shrugged them all off to win a state wrestling title --

2A Volleyball: All 8 state qualifiers now determined
#1
Wiggins
#2
Denver Christian
#4
Sedgwick County
#5
Fowler
#6
Vail Christian
#9
Holyoke
#22
Yuma
4 of the 8 teams hail from the Lower Platte
#copreps
Sedgwick County has won 22 straight playoff games - they're seeking a record tying 6th consecutive crown - over that stretch they've outscored opponents 985-148 - average margin of victory is 38 points - they've been held below 40 points only 4 times in that stretch
#copreps
Also wondering if the big schools draw a much bigger audience why over the past couple of years has the attendance for the 1A and 2A football finals matched or surpassed that of the 4A and 5A finals?
2A GIRLS: How about Yuma? Seeded 22nd - they went to Soroco and won - traveled over to Paonia tonight and on - next up is a trip to Sanford - a few miles for the Indians
#copreps
6man: Sierra Grande easily won over La Veta but a neat thing took place. The Panthers wore purple stripes on their helmets to honor Wiley HS who lost four students in a car accident earlier this week. Classy move.

Basketball: A sixth classification was added in Colorado by the legislative council yesterday. We provide a breakdown of which teams are in which class with changes set to take effect for the upcoming 2022-23 season.

2A Finals are set for next Friday
Lamar vs Eaton
Lamar edged Delta 7-6
Eaton downed Resurrection Christian 27-13
Savages in finals for first time since 1961
Reds there for the first time since 2003

As mentioned over the weekend - the deadline for survey return on fall sports is 10am this morning - those of you expecting a decision/announcement at that time - it won't happen - they will have to tabulate, review, discuss and then a board vote. Won't happen quickly.....
Columbine holds off Valor Christian 37-30 - Rebels get to the 5A semifinals for a third straight - last played for the state title (won it) in 2011.

Posted a comment last night about shortage of officials causing games to be delayed. Tremendous response as sports fans understand there is a shortage. Now the questionโฆwhat are some solutions?
