There is a place for unopposed work, opposed work, mannequins, cones, balls, bibs, no equipment, equipment, slow tempo, high tempo, whistles, no talking, talking .... it’s your session... just make it work... fuck the Twitter coaching police 👍⚽️
Never feel bad about:
1. Demanding high standards
2. Being honest with players
3. Putting the interest of the group first
4. Sticking by your principles
5. Trusting your philosophy
Any half decent coach knows how to adapt & progress a session to achieve their objectives... can’t understand people on here criticising sessions with their “you should do this” “I would do this” attitude.... put your own stuff up then ... you don’t have to knock others
#haters
Regardless of ability, all players will improve if they:
1. Run
2. Work Hard
3. Listen
4. Practice
5. Eat well
6. Hydrate
7. Rest properly
8. Accept feedback
9. Respect themselves & others
10. Have a great attitude
Being paid to do something doesn’t make you professional... just as doing it for nothing doesn’t mean you do it like an amateur ..... hold yourself to a high standard regardless
All the coaching knowledge and qualifications in the world mean very little if your sideline manner is that of a crazed lunatic ..... I have yet to be shown how to scream at players or a ref on a coaching course yet I see it way more than anything else weekly
I have no idea where to even begin ..but I'm going to step out of my comfort zone & start a podcast for coaches of all ages & levels .. together we can learn from each other & more importantly have a laugh along the way ... Please give me a shout if you'd like to be a guest 👍🏻
Great words of advice from Jurgen Klopp ahead of tonights game "You have to respect but never fear: You need confidence but never complacency: You need courage but not recklessness: you need to be brave but not foolish" Applicable in lots of situations

Sideline manner needs to be a module for coach education courses of all levels. Clubs need to video their coaches for analysis purposes just as much as they do the players.... Some of the behaviour you witness weekly is frankly embarrassing

Twitter was great when coaches helped each other to learn / shared coaching material & encouraged each other in their efforts... Sadly now its primarily people criticising each other / trying to sell you something / bragging about something ridiculous...
Have the courage to let your team lose playing the style of football that your philosophy demands. It will only serve to help your players work out how to be better the next time. Anyone can resort to plan B without ever mastering plan A
Coaching pet hates: balls not pumped / balls not matching / balls not clean / balls not marked / balls out of shape / balls torn / balls too hard / not enough balls / balls lost over the fence 😫 anymore that get to coaches 🤔
#whataloadofballs
When a parent is considering clubs for their kid to join, this is the most important question they should ask "who will coach my kid?" Not what crest will they wear? Players have often joined great clubs with poor coaches simply for the crest
I'm 48 years of age... I've supported
@LFC
since I was 4 years of age... Through thick & thin... Good Times & bad... A move to some kind of super league will end this love affair... Enough is enough... I will walk alone
When players buy into the group .. accept each other’s weaknesses .. play to each other’s strengths ... never let a win get to their head ...or a loss to their heart ... trust each other in good times & bad ...fight for each other...you’ve a serious chance of achieving something
Luis Enrique's daughter has passed away at the age of 9, having suffered from bone cancer for the last 5 months.
Thoughts are with him and his family.
Rest In Peace Xana.
⚽️🔥 My favorite passing & first touch drill for 1on1 sessions: Max 2 touches | Ball on the ground, between the gate | Who makes the first mistake? 👌
2on1 session with Lobke Loonen (Ex-PSV & Netherlands U21) & Bodil VDH (Ex-Ajax U19 & Netherlands U19)

The old school defender in me loves watching Athletico... So much to admire... Shape, discipline, aggression, shithousery, work rate, team work, tackles, headers... It seems to be infectious throughout the team
Players may change from year to year but the types of player generally stay the same...there is: The joker / the big time Charlie / the grafter / the technician / the silent one / the clown / the model pro / the moaner / the leader / the thinker / the talker ... we love them all
Never be afraid to ask for help, to ask for an opinion, to ask for feedback, to ask for suggestions, to ask for advice, to ask for support, to ask for observations.... everyone of these inputs can make you reflect, be challenged & ultimately be better
Losing is acceptable... mistakes are acceptable... once they are accompanied by honest effort & desire to try to play to your teams philosophy... the first two without the second two is a problem
#REFLECTION
You sometimes have to accept that a team can outplay you .... but you should never accept that a team simply outworked you .... hard work is the foundation for absolutely everything else
#basics
The “grass is greener somewhere else” generation of players generally move clubs to avoid doing the very thing that will make them better....

Self reflection a must for self improvement.... simple questions with honest answers..... examples:
1. How did training go tonight?
2. What could I have done better?
3. Did I achieve my objectives?
4. Did the players enjoy it?
5. What did the players learn?
With minimum qualifications for coaches in the National league being implemented..should minimum levels of pay be introduced to coincide? Many experienced & qualified coaches out there at all levels coaching for free but should this change? Interested to hear peoples thoughts
Give everything you can to players who:
1. Always show a great attitude
2. Be brave & demand the ball
3. Work tirelessly for the team
4. Learn from mistakes
Don’t waste anyone’s time if these basics can not be met

Happy new year to all the coaches out there.... here’s to a football filled 2018 & best wishes for the season ahead.... my New Years resolution is simply to learn from everyone & anyone in an effort to get better as a coach ⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️
Very good warm up fun at Colombia training. Rule is first player who runs is free to run to any new position. The rest of the players must react and find a new position.
Formations are nothing but suggested starting positions....everything from there on depends on variables such as, the position of the ball, the movement of opponents, the depth of defensive line, the pressing strategy, the score line, possession & many other

The greatest lesson I've learned over my 15+ years of coaching is to stick to your principles regardless of who criticises you & know when to stay silent or walk away ....so far so good 👍🏻
The best thing to challenge is yourself ... who knows what lies beyond your comfort zone ... you will never know what you don’t know until you try to find out

I am issuing an open invite to any coach of any team to come and watch my sessions ... any place ... any time ... everyone is welcome ... you won’t even be asked to hide in the bushes ...

Your opinions are exactly that... Your opinions... They will be based on your age, experience, bias, preferences, beliefs, philosophies, don't let anyone else try to make their opinions yours just because they don't agree with you..... 👍🏻⚽

When bringing staff in & around you... The best coaches:
1. Challenge you

“Pep can only do it with money” argument wears thin ... all of the top clubs spend ridiculous sums & none can replicate the style of Peps sides

... let’s not forget he had Barca B playing in a similar fashion long before it became to the wider football worlds attention
If your teams performance on the pitch is not a reflection of your coaching philosophy.... you either don’t have one or you don’t understand it yourself ... or worst of all you simply pay it lip service ... what you teach should be what you see

The most important group of players in any coaches life is the group you are currently working with. They deserve your undivided loyalty focus & attention otherwise you do them & yourself a disservice
