Gaelic Football is one of the greatest “invasions games” in the world.
One of the greatest skills in Invasion is evasion (evade tackle, evade opposition…)
here is an example of evasion

To Invade, Evade
This is a challenge on a Top Class Forward bearing down on goal.
1) get close
2) get goal side
3) near hand to stay in the game
4) timing the “hand in”
5) stay standing “alive”
6) self between forward and goal
7) recover ball

Have you 3 minutes? Are you interested in coaching? If yes, some great insight from Steve Kerr. - As a player, Steve won 5 NBA championships, and has been the head coach for 4 NBA titles (2015, 2017, 2018, 2022)
“Attitude is a choice. Happiness is a choice. Optimism is a choice. Kindness is a choice. Giving is a choice. Respect is a choice. Whatever choice you make makes you.
Choose wisely”

as a “performance analyst” with a team
if you don’t have a short clip at the end of the match review where you “catch” a player displaying a great attitude you’re missing an opportunity to let the coaches recognise positive role modelling of team culture
a 1%er
He’s got no real pace, she’s not fast enough,
You can’t play inter-county if you are not quick.
Spent a while working with Development Squad/Academy team and couldn’t believe the number of players aged 13 that were excluded because of “lacking pace”
I’m with Brian on this one

“To be so close to the players that I can understand both internal and external factors that are effecting them, to make the players better as individuals and as a team sure, and to care”
Brilliant insight to managing your Bench and the next line of players coming through.
So easy to forget (or think they “should be happy to be a part of it”) But you need them to drive the “starters” to be the best they can be. You need everyone driving forward aggressively
Why is he so good?
Practice? Yes, he’s incredible technically
Athleticism? Yes, he’s a superb athlete.
For me though it’s his humility, attitude and the disciplined choices he makes.

I see a lot of “coaches” rule a young player out because of a perceived “lack of pace” only to see the player return a couple years later with an ability to be in the right place at the right time and get on great ball.
When I study them, they are always moving, always thinking

If you were looking to describe Matt Connor words like 'legend', 'icon', 'pioneer' are all good options. But perhaps 'visionary' would be the one that best illustrates the career of one of the greatest minds ever to grace the sport of GAA
Successful coaches always talk in terms of being Performance Focused (avoid being outcome focused).
The real value is in knowing what the Performance Criteria is. Then you know what you have to focus on.
Pat Gilroy explains the how - to identifying the performance criteria
