Is it just me, or is this one of the best things to happen to football in a very long time? Players & coaches trying to get opposition players carded is one of the worst things in football. Leave it to the ref to do their job and if you can't, get carded yourself! #SundayShare

When I started coaching I thought higher level coaches did higher level practices, I've seen UEFA A licence coaches do the same practices I did as a L1 coach. The difference is the detail. Coaching points, manipulating practices, giving players the right level of challenge, etc

When I started coaching I wanted to become a UEFA B coach as I thought it would be a great achievement. Now I realise than badges are important but there are a lot of other elements that go into making a good coach. Badges don't necessarily define you or make you a good coach😉

Coaching licences are great and I understand why leagues want minimum standards. At the same time, having a specific licence doesn't guarantee that someone will be a good coach🤷‍♂️

Reims are fined £22,000-per-game every time they play under their manager Will Still, due to him not having his pro licence yet. They are currently unbeaten in 12 league games under him and drew 1-1 away at PSG last night. Superb 😂

I've never had a player ask me what coaching qualifications I have, to them it doesn't matter if you're a L1 or UEFA A licence coach. What matters is that you care about them as people as well as players and that you do your best to help them improve.

Football parents get a bad name, the vast majority are great, all they want is what's best for their child. Most issues with parents tend to come down to a need for education, if you do have issues pop this on the team WhatsApp group and it will usually do the job. #SundayShare

I've seen some great L1 coaches & some not so great UEFA A or B licence coaches. The truth is the extra knowledge is great but it's value is diminished if you can't create a positive environment, if you haven't got the people skills to connect with & inspire players to improve.

The biggest compliments you can receive as a youth coach are compliments about how much players are enjoying your sessions, how much development they've made or how your team play. At a youth level those for me are signs of good coaching, not how many trophies you've won!

As a youth coach, if you asked your players what a UEFA B licence is, I bet you that they wouldn't know, and they wouldn't care! What your players think of you won't be dictated by your coaching badge. It will be down to how you treat them and how your coaching makes them feel😉

It's really poor when coaches look down on other coaches because of the level they coach at or who they coach for! We should be one big coaching community, because one coach is coaching at a dev centre doesn't mean an academy coach should look down on them, same with grassroots.

Coaches like Pep really are the pinnacle of coaching, being able to watch documentaries about them gives a facinating insight. But they coach adults, as youth coaches we should always bare that in mind. This kind of teamtalk isn't what we should be trying to recreate with U9s!

You don't have to be a UEFA A licence coach or a former pro to be a great coach for your players. Being a great coach is things like creating an environment that players enjoy and develop in, creating memories that players can look back on and being a good role model for them🤝

If you coach players who go on to play professionally you should be extremely proud. At the same time you should be just as proud if you see players in a few years and they say that you had a positive impact on them. That's a job well done and something to be proud of as well.

Coaching is wonderfully rewarding but it can also be very full on, especially when you're trying to balance it with a job and family. Make sure you take breaks when you can, like a half term. A rested coach is better than a coach who's burnt out or loses their love for the game.

If you think youth players care about your coaching badge, they don't! They don't care if you are a level 1 coach or a UEFA A licence coach. In fact, if you asked them what a UEFA B licence is, most wouldn't have a clue! They care that you care, and you can help them develop.

Whether you play a 1-4-3-3 or 1-3-5-2 can have an impact, playing a high press or a mid block can as well. It's all pretty irrelevant if you can't communicate what you want effectively to your players or if you haven't created a good environment, one where your players buy in.

How many coaches have sheds that look like this?! And how many coaches partners complain that they can't get anything in the shed because it's full of coaching equipment?🙈😂😂 #SundayShare

I used to really beat myself up about a bad session, if it hadn't gone as planned or I felt I'd coached it poorly. The truth is from L1 to UEFA A coaches we all have a poor sessions from time to time, it's how you reflect and improve from them that counts.

If you're a youth coach who's never coaches girls you really should, it will be one of the best things you'll do! Both because you'll really enjoy the experience and because it will challenge you in a different way to coaching boys as girls tend to be more inquisitive & social.

The coaching qualification that someone has doesn't always make them a good coach, it means they've shown they are capable of delivering couse content. It's how you coach away from courses that counts, a highly qualified coach who's going through the motions isn't a good coach!

Unfortunately, there are a few snakes and back stabbers in the coaching community. I suppose it's only natural when you are in a position that they want to be in. In fairness, I pity them. In the end it, it may get you somewhere, but people will know that you can't be trusted!

'All of our training sessions are with the ball' if it's good enough for Pep it should be good enough for everyone! We aren't going to turn our teams into Man City by doing it but players learn to love the ball by having the ball, not by running laps!

I honestly feel that one of the biggest breakthroughs you'll have as a coach is when you stop trying to impress everyone! When you worry about what your sessions look like from the outside or how you're viewed it affects your coaching. Just do what's right for your players😉

I used to be fixated on the coaching license I had & what level I coached at, I'm sure a lot of coaches do when they start. The truth is a license isn't always a good indicator of how good a coach is & being in an environment you enjoy is as important as the level you coach at.

I see tweets like "academy session plan" or ebooks with "academy practices" but the truth is academy practices are no different to non academy practices! There's no magic practices, it's all about finding ones that work for your group & topic.

There's so much Jealousy with coaching circles. Jealousy about job offers, roles within clubs, qualifications, etc. But jealousy doesn't get you anywhere! It just makes you bitter. Want the best for other coaches, congratulate them when they do well and enjoy your own coaching.

Finally used this great idea from @michael_loftman with both the RTC and shadow squad 16s last night. Different numbers and spaces on different surfaces but in both sessions it was very competitive and the players really enjoyed it, who doesn't love a rondo🤷‍♂️😂😂

If I'm being honest my coaching hasn't been great recently. I've not been happy with my planning, session management or coaching points. Then last night it clicked, I had 2 good sessions where things worked and I felt like myself! Coaching is a head scratching thing at times!

Winning a U8s A league or a U10 trophy event is pointless for your players if... You are making the decisions on the ball for them You only play them in one position Some are playing 5 minutes Your style of play is based on physical ability You kill their love for the game

It's sad seeing negativity in the twitter coaching community, we should be lifting each other up. If you see people having success, congratulate them🍾 If you see people trying help others or grow their ideas, spread the word🔁 If you see people who need help, help them💬

As a coach I look back at myself 5 years ago and cringe at how uneducated and poor I was. I'm hoping in 5 years time I can look back the same way at myself as a coach now! There so much out there to learn and we have a responsibility to our players to continually improve.

For my #SundayShare , here is an article I wrote on coaching as a pair. If you get it right, it can be really beneficial to session delivery & player development. If you get it wrong, it can be a nightmare! Finding the right buddy coach is as important as finding the right club.

Do other coaches struggle to sleep after evening sessions?! I can be falling asleep on the sofa but I'll get into bed then the session review begins! What worked, what didn't work, etc! Reviewing and reflecting are great tools for coach development but not after midnight!

With the windchill it's going to feel like below zero at training tonight🥶 It's a finishing session, rather than having foundation phase players stood around in a line drill my part of the session is going to be a player favourite SSG. Love finishing noughts & crosses😍
