Houston is the 4th largest city in the United States and currently is only served by passenger rail 3 times a week. I’m ecstatic to see Amtrak pushing to serve this city every day with faster, more frequent, more reliable rail service.

Downtown to the airport in ≈ 50 mins for $1.25. Sign me up. A Lyft would make the same trip in 35-50 mins depending on traffic, but cost a minimum of $35 (usually a lot more in my experience). Future improvements to the line (and future I-45 BRT) could get bus times down.

October Brightline ridership is already trending higher, however. From Oct. 1-16, the passenger railroad carried 104,322 riders, of which 40,219 were to Orlando. Brightline's Orlando extension opened Sept. 22, and ridership has yet to normalize.
