Meet Garbage. This handsome chap was dumped in his cage at the bottom of a large household bin in Market Street, Herne Bay. Luckily, just as the rubbish was being crushed, plucky little Garbage leapt to safety and landed straight into the arms of the loader, Courteney Lawson.

This was the scene at Whitstable Harbour a short time ago - the highest tide since 2013. Our fantastic engineers were out along the coast monitoring conditions and closing floodgates. There will be no problems with the next high water and floodgates will be reopened tomorrow.

Whitstable Harbour earlier today. The tide peaked at 1.40pm and was the highest recorded so far this year. Our engineers have been out keeping a close eye on the situation, closing floodgates and sluice gates on the coastal brooks. The 2am high tide will be closely monitored.

Here's #Whitstable Harbour at high tide earlier. This was a slightly unusual event with the persistent tidal surge keeping water levels higher than normal for a prolonged period of time. The tide is now on its way out but engineers will continue to monitor the situation.

Our emergency work to reinstate the beach at Long Rock finished today on time and under the estimated budget of £15,000. In total,10,000 tonnes of shingle was shifted to protect the SSSI and the important habitat it provides.

We have installed a new barrier and bollards at the entrance to the west quay, in response to recent issues including a number of car 'meets' on the quay where people have been drinking and playing loud music, and leaving nitrous oxide canisters and broken glass over the quay.

Four men from #HerneBay were issued fixed penalty notices totalling £1,600 by the council's Environmental Enforcement team yesterday (Thursday) after being captured on CCTV dumping a bed base and sofa on the corner of the High Street and Bank Street in Herne Bay.

Our new 'park and pedal' scheme at Wincheap park and ride is now open, offering free parking for people who then cycle into the city rather than take the bus. A new 28-space, 24/7 cycle compound has been built. More info/apply at
