Elected Labour Police and Crime Commissioner for Cleveland. Promoted by Paul Rowling on behalf of Matt Storey both at 22 Smelters Court, Stockton TS18 2GG
Residents tell me community policing has disappeared. That's why I'll give every single community in Cleveland a named officer as part of my plan to bring back community policing if elected on 2 May. It's time for change with Labour. 🗳️
So pleased to be elected as your Police and Crime Commissioner for Cleveland. Thank you to everyone who voted for me, knocked on doors and my brilliant campaign team. (1/3)
Today, it's your chance to vote for a Labour Police and Crime Commissioner who will bring back community policing to our area. 🗳️
Please don't miss the opportunity to help bring back community policing to our streets! 👮
Outside the much missed Elm Tree Police Station in
#Stockton
. Sadly, this police station was forced to close due to Conservative cuts. 👮❌
Tomorrow, you have the chance to vote Labour for a Police & Crime Commissioner who will give community policing the focus it deserves. 🌹🗳️
Remember to return your postal votes for Labour. 🌹 Every vote matters in this election, so if you want to see a return to community policing in our area, please use your postal vote for Labour. ✉
Today, I met with Shadow Home Secretary
@YvetteCooperMP
to discuss our shared commitment to bringing back community policing to Cleveland.
A Labour Police and Crime Commissioner and a Labour government will work together to make our communities safer.
I'll tackle homelessness in our area. Getting rough sleepers off our streets and giving them the support they need is the right thing to do and will help steer people away from anti-social behaviour and crime. I'll work with partners organisations on this if elected on 2 May.
Thanks to all the incredible volunteers and four legged friends who have joined me in my campaign across Cleveland! 🐾
On Thursday, you decide if we see a change to policing in Cleveland with community policing back 👮 or more of the same, so please vote Labour this Thursday. 🗳️
Steve Turner's slogan, “More Police, Safer Streets”, fact checked:
❌ ‘More Police’ - In Cleveland, we’ve lost 500 police officers since 2010 and still have 230 fewer officers today. 📉
❌ ‘Safer Streets’ - Our area has the highest crime rate in the country. 👎
Misleading.
Honoured to be officially nominated to run for Police and Crime Commissioner. On 2 May, the choice will be between a vote for Labour and my 5 pledges or more of the same with the Conservatives.
It's not fair Surrey received a bigger funding increase for their police than Cleveland did while Cleveland desperately needs more officers on the beat. That's why if elected Police & Crime Commissioner on 2 May, I'll put pressure on government to fund our police fairly.
We don't see the police anywhere near as much as we used to after 14 years of Conservatives. Instead, we’ve seen huge cuts to police numbers and now Cleveland is the highest crime area in the country. On 2 May, use your vote for Labour to bring back community policing.
Pleasure to speak alongside
@RachelReevesMP
at the
@chrismcewan11
campaign launch earlier. They shared their plans to improve our part of the country from day one. My job, if elected, will be to make our communities safer and I will start with bringing back community policing.
Nobody should be afraid to work or to shop on their local high street. Yet soaring levels of retail crime have seen shop workers face awful levels of violence and abuse at work. That's why I'm pledging a Retail Crime Strategy for Cleveland to tackle the scourge of shoplifting.
Our area has the highest crime rate in the country under the current Conservative Police and Crime Commissioner. 📈 The choice on the ballot 🗳️ on Thursday is between community policing and safer streets with Labour or more failure on crime with the Conservatives. 👇🏻
A great turn out for
@luke_myer
's campaign office opening event with
@chrismcewan11
,
@bphillipsonMP
and
@borolabour
attending. Luke will make a brilliant MP if he is elected at the General Election, which couldn't come soon enough for residents in our communities who need change.
Great to speak at Marton Road Church about how I want to be a strong voice for all communities if elected as Police and Crime Commissioner on Thursday.
My Grandad was a Methodist preacher, he would have loved the music there!
Less than one hour to go until polls close. Today, I managed to visit every single constituency in Cleveland. Thank you to all those who took the time to speak with me today and to all the fantastic volunteers who joined me. Fingers crossed for a Labour win. 🤞🏻
Great to meet the amazing team at My Sisters Place in Middlesbrough.
One of my key pledges is to get domestic abuse support services working closely with the police. If elected Police and Crime Commissioner on 2 May, I‘ll make domestic abuse and violence a top priority. (1/3)
What a pleasure to be out and about in Whitehouse Farm with
@chrismcewan11
and Joe Dancey making the case for change with Labour. So pleased with the reception my pledge to bring back community policing is receiving on the doorstep!
Proud to have introduced this motion to highlight government’s failure to tackle the asylum backlog and ensure Middlesbrough will play no part in cruel & costly Tory gimmicks. Instead, Middlesbrough will continue to defend the right to seek safety from war and persecution.
Instead of fixing the asylum case backlog leaving people unable to work and uncertain of their future, government blows £millions on cruel and costly gimmicks like the Bibby Stockholm barge. Tory Councillors couldn’t even vote against our motion criticising their record. 🤔
At Boro Community Church yesterday taking questions from the Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) community. Thanks to Daniel and
@JbKabs
for organising. If elected on 2 May, I‘ll engage with all communities to hear their views and be a voice for all on police and crime issues
Pleasure to speak at the
@LabourNorth
regional conference today on a panel with fellow Labour Police and Crime Commissioner candidates
@PccJoyAllen
, David Allen, and
@SusanDungworth
. We are united in our mission to take back our streets from criminals. (1/2)
Busy week speaking about my plans to bring back community policing to residents across Cleveland and spoke to Stockton West CLP about my plans to bring integrity and standards back to the role of PCC.
In other news, my 6 year old picked a bad day to go to his first Boro match!
At
#ExhibitionofKnives
hosted by
@redcarpalace
today. The exhibition showcases jewellery made from recycled knives taken off our streets. A great idea! If elected on 2 May, I’ll work with partners to get more knives off our streets.
Worth a watch.👇🏻 A vote for
@chrismcewan11
for Tees Valley Mayor and a vote for me for Police and Crime Commissioner is a vote for honesty, openness and integrity.
Donated duvets, bedding and empty crisp packets for sleeping bag insulation to the homeless charity Nitelight earlier. Nitelight provides assistance and support to the homeless and people in temporary accommodation. I will invest in tackling homelessness if elected PCC.
I look forward to working with partner organisations and residents to create safer communities across Cleveland.
The hard work starts now. Thank you everyone. (3/3)
Good to be at Waterloo Road Mosque for the Unity Eid event with
@AndyMcDonaldMP
. The event focused on promoting peace and understanding between different communities. If elected as Police and Crime Commissioner on Thursday 2 May, I will work to promote community cohesion.
My commitments to bring back community policing, invest in domestic abuse support, reduce homelessness, create a retail crime strategy and restore integrity will be central to my work over the coming years. (2/3)
Dropped into
@JonathanBrash
's office and had fantastic conversations with residents in
#Hartlepool
about my plan to bring back community policing if elected on 2 May.
Good to see a lot of support for Jonathan, he's a local lad who will do a great job as Hartlepool's next MP.
Proud to support
@the_brc
's Get Tough on Retail Crime campaign. One of my 5 pledges is to introduce a Retail Crime Strategy for Cleveland, which will work to protect businesses and shop workers from the rampant retail crime we are seeing across our communities.
It is unacceptable that shop workers are increasingly facing violence at work.
#ItsNotPartOfTheJob
I shared my plans to tackle retail crime and protect shop workers with the
@CoopParty
who have been campaigning on this while government has failed to take any meaningful action.
My hometown, Stockton. Despite what the Home Secretary might say, it’s an incredible place where incredible people do incredible things. I’m proud of it.
Proud to back calls for a
#NationalCareService
.
A National Care Service would focus on giving access to quality care for all who need it and providing good jobs, not profits for shareholders.
Thanks to
@unisontheunion
and
@NorthernUNISON
for all their work on this campaign.
Pleasure speaking to voters this weekend in Norton, Thorpe Thewles and Billingham about my pledge to bring back community policing. Thank you to everyone who has been campaigning alongside me. Together we can
#bringbackcommunitypolicing
.
🗣️The conversations I’m having every week with residents on the doorstep is one of the best parts of campaigning to be elected Police and Crime Commissioner. (1/3)
Today's the day to vote Labour to bring back community policing. 👇🏻
Remember to take your photo ID with you to the polling station and vote Labour to bring back community policing.🗳️
Ashleigh is the new PCSO in Central Middlesbrough. Ashleigh is doing a great job, but we need proper community policing like we used to have to properly feel the benefit of officers like Ashleigh. That’s why if elected on 2 May I will bring back community policing to our streets.
Out in Fairfield my home patch again today with Joe Dancey and as a special treat my Dad popped along to help as we chatted to residents about my plans to bring back community policing to Cleveland.
Delighted to attend the My Sister's Place International Women's Day event today at Gisborough Hall.
Inspirational poetry from Aisha, music from Marina Josephina and Michaela Reaney's motivational speaking made for an incredible evening. (1/2)
Today's your chance to vote to bring back community policing to Cleveland with Labour. 🌹👮 Please don't forget to bring vote ID to the polling station! 🗳️
Pleasure to speak with pupils at Linthorpe Primary School about local democracy. Great questions from the pupils and lots of politicians of the future!
Busy campaigning last week, including in Norton, Ingleby Barwick, Ormsby and Acklam, talking about my plans to give every community in Cleveland a named Police Officer. A vote for Labour on 2 May is a vote to bring back community policing in Cleveland.
It’s such a shame the proper police station at Medina House, much missed by residents, was closed because of the huge budget cuts imposed on Cleveland Police by the Conservatives. (2/3)
This gimmick does nothing to replace what the Conservatives have taken away from us.
Only Labour can be trusted to give the police what they need to keep your family and mine safe. (3/3)
@ACunninghamMP
Alex, thank you for your crucial support throughout my campaign. Fingers crossed that, together, we can bring back community policing to Cleveland with a Labour win tomorrow.🤞🏻
We’re lucky to have organisations like My Sister’s Place in our area, but we need better communication between the police and the wonderful professionals at My Sister’s Place to make the most of their incredible expertise. (2/3)
Tragic and heartbreaking. Thanks to
@ClevelandPolice
for responding and acting so swiftly. Incidents like these have sadly become all too common in Cleveland and across the country over the past decade.
A 17-yr-old male and a 21-yr-old man have been charged following a reported stabbing at Middlesbrough Bus Station on Monday (20 Nov).
Both men are due to appear at Teesside Magistrates Court today, Weds 22 Nov.

As Police and Crime Commissioner, I'll work to secure funding to support My Sister’s Place to help their life-changing work supporting victims continue and ensure police work closely with them. (3/3)
@KiMcGuinness
@northumbriapol
Great work, Kim. Labour is tough on crime and the causes of crime because that's how we make communities across the north east safer.
👮 I have heard again and again that residents miss seeing police on the beat and feel community policing has all but disappeared. That's why I'll bring back community policing if elected Police and Crime Commissioner on 2 May. (2/3)
It was a honour to be involved in celebrating the amazing work of
@MSPmbr
and women across our local area.
A really amazing afternoon and a great way to celebrate International Women's Day.

@jojograinger
That’s not the case unfortunately. Cleveland has the highest crime rate compared with other areas. The figure I am referring to is about crimes recorded, not arrest rate or clear up rate. The arrest and clear up rate of crimes is incredibly low sadly.
@gaznolan
@ACunninghamMP
Hi Gary, I’ve been knocking on doors and leafleting across the Cleveland area. It’s a big area to cover, so I haven’t been to every street unfortunately. If you have any questions for me, feel free to drop me an email and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can. 🙏🏻

Thanks. I said in my campaign I'll fight for fairer funding. It's not right Surrey received a bigger police funding increase than Cleveland when Cleveland has the highest crime rate in the country. We need fair funding to get more officers back on our streets
Thanks to Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper for attending the conference and confirming we would have the backing of a Labour government to deliver for our communities. (2/2)
@claire7t3
So sorry to hear about your experience
@claire7t3
. The police and all our public services have been heroic over 13 years of seeing their resources slashed and being asked to do more and more with so much less. (1/2)
@RobertsonG
@borolabour
Agree it should be a given, but there is a need to rebuild trust in the office of PCC. None of my 5 pledges specifically relate to CCTV, although
@chrismcewan11
is rightly keen to invest in CCTV across the region to help increase prosecution rates.
@claire7t3
This government’s cuts to vital public services are all interconnected and in your case the pressure has forced officers to act as healthcare professionals and teachers are often put in the same position. We need properly funded public services that deliver for communities. (2/2)
@TomBurtonArt
Hi Tom. Totally agree, we need to deal with anti-social parking like this. If elected in May, I'll be making sure we get serious on those who park inconsiderately and illegally.
