I was curious and wanted to see if I could find the earliest appearance of Aphrodite in ancient Greek art. The Judgment of Paris Amphora from 575-550 BCE was the earliest I could find, and I drew a picture of her based off of that design.

I think the perception of Medea and the disdain people have for her is very much informed by the fact that she’s a woman, but also by contemporary social standards. With that in mind, I was trying to think of what a contemporary equivalent of Medea’s story would be. (1/12)

@SaraFangirl_Art Aphrodite's magic was able to get Helen to Troy, but once Helen gets to know Paris, the magic has little affect on her. It's just like how you might be attracted to someone, and once you get to know them and realize they're awful that attraction instantly ends.

In the final confrontation between Elle and Warner, after she wins the court case, Elle dismisses him, walking off into a bright light which is transposed with a sun-shaped image of a stained glass window. Not unlike Medea flying off on her sun chariot. (7/12)

Is there anybody on #ClassicsTwitter that has some solid reference on Bronze Age Colchian styles of dress?

@SamSuchabutt @Hillebard2 ^Very much this. Ultimately, I wanted to showcase the beauty of a variety of body types and highlight the fact that strength and athleticism does not equal a slim waist and six pack.

It also should be noted that both Medea and Elle are exceptionally talented and underestimated. They constantly prove their greatness and are rarely recognized for it. (6/12)

Murder (especially of children) in a modern day adaptation doesn’t hold the same weight especially due to the fact that women have more rights and independence. A modern day Medea murdering her children to get back at a cheating husband just wouldn’t work in the same way (10/12)

@flaroh That's so stupid. It's not like they're showing or doing anything explicit. Maybe put some drapery loosely across Achilles's chest and over Patroclus's thigh? It's a beautiful illustration and people NEED to see it.

Well shucks! I owe so much to @GreekMythComix for #classicstober and how it got my silly little drawings out to a larger audience.

Elle doesn’t murder Vivian, but instead becomes her best friend. The future Warner thought he was entitled to because of his status becomes Elle’s through her own hard work and talents. Like Jason, Warner fades into obscurity. (8/12)
