Some statistics to start the year: During 2021 Bitcoin consumed 134 TWh in total, which is comparable to the electrical energy consumed by a country like Argentina. Related CO2 emissions were ~64 Mt; enough to negate the entire global net savings from deploying EVs.

As AZ side effects kick in, these Attalea flowers decided to open... No fun to collect with fever and pain, but these guys are usually too tall and robust to reach, couldn't miss! With @tauanajc 's help, did what I had to do yesterday and now I have a whole weekend to die.

94% of adults with 1st shot in my hometown São Paulo. I guess soon we'll be able to visit family without worries!

At 73%, Brazil has now surpassed the United States in the percentage of adults with at least one COVID vaccine. The number of fully vaccinated remains much lower

With fewer conferences and everyone working from home I have an impression that 2020 will see a record of submitted manuscripts. Journal editors, beware.

1st time in São Paulo in 2 years. No need for wallet, just cell phone: driver's license, payments, subway tickets, etc are digital now. The guy selling candy in the train just offered digital payment and wifi tethering if you don't have a data plan.

1o que 1 só bolsa é sinal que o @CNPq_Oficial morreu. Grande legado, astronauta @Astro_Pontes , lembraremos sempre! Deem chance pros jovens cientistas inovarem!

Other species were previously considered as different, but are just diverse colors of the same thing. For example, this is all Anchylorhynchus tremolerasi, previously thought to be 4 different species. 6 of these color morphs were collected side by side in the same flowers.

My brother @PedroHdMedeiros just found 16-year-old piece of paper that I need to request my work visa! Now I just need to wait a few months, apply, wait a few more months, get a piece of paper, beg for a visa interview within a reasonable time frame and all set!

Next week I’ll be at Universidad Ikiam in Ecuador teaching a workshop on beetle pollinators with prof. Maria Cristina Peñuela. This is my 1st time teaching this and also 1st time in ages preparing a full course. I had forgotten how much work goes into it, but it’ll be worth it!

@DanielBolnick @luke_campillo @joelmcglothlin I remember reading once that Twitter is like a murder mystery game: you wake up, find out people are angry, get some clues, and your mission is to find out who did it.
