four years ago people in college told me I was not cut out to be a reporter and tomorrow I'm interviewing a former vice president. idk. sometimes life, you know, finds a way.
I have COVID-19. I lost my smell and taste for weeks among other symptoms. Luckily, I am over the hump and on the mend. I’m hoping to donate my plasma to Mount Sinai or others, and if you’re in the same boat as me, I encourage you to do the same.
Some good news? I've successfully recovered from COVID-19 and have tested positive for antibodies. Happy endings during this time are possible, too. Remember that!
I have depression. I’m generally well equipped to handle it during normal courses of business. But coronavirus has shattered many of my coping mechanisms.
I’d like to share how I’m dealing so that others also struggling can feel a little less alone.
NEWS:
@AndrewYang
is launching a non-profit called Humanity Forward—an advocacy org funding UBI-centric candidates, dolling out free money to supporters, and, yes, starting a podcast. He's not ruling out mayor of NY or any other office.

: The DNC has raked in $10.7 million in December and $157 million in 2021. Both figures are records for the committee in a non-presidential election year.
Yang campaign on qualifying for next debate: "America has spoken. Voters clearly missed Andrew Yang’s presence in the most recent debate and now they are making sure he will be on the debate stage in New Hampshire."
It's finally here—the first episode of "Hot Mic."
@AndrewYang
and I touched on everything from his marriage and raising a special needs child, to his sparring with MSNBC and potential vice president short-lists.

My constant advice for young journalists is to get a therapist. Because no matter how much you're being pushed to work beyond your limits—your health is the most important. And no one will tell you that in journalism school.
A new-ish trend I've noticed: Tiktok teens (many of whom are approaching or are of voting age) really don't want you to "make them vote for Joe Biden." The most popular version of this video has over 277k likes.
Some personal news: Thrilled to finally announce that I’m joining
@ABC
as a political reporter covering critical stories here in D.C. as well as the dizzying midterm elections! I am overjoyed at this tremendous opportunity, which means that I am technically now a Disney Adult.
Just asked Biden about his reaction to Trump’s QANON town hall remarks. His response:
“Absolutely outrageous. It’;s a terrorist organization. His own FBI said so.”
GEORGE W. BUSH pushes back on criticism: “I think we’re a big enough nation to do more than one thing – and continuing to fight against AIDS on the continent of Africa and supporting the Ukrainian freedom fighters is not going to constrain our capacity to help our own citizens."
But most of all reaching out to other reporters / media people about how they cope has been awesome. I now am back on Steam, and am willing to play with any of y’all soon.
Tl;dr my coping is imperfect but I think that’s ok. If you’re struggling even a bit my DMs are open.

Fun professional news: come January I'll be joining the WH team @ Yahoo as a White House Correspondent !
And to kick off that coverage I look forward with José Andrés, who told me about a new position he wants seen in the Biden administration: food czar
But first, a note on how difficult isolation can be for those who deal with depression:
Being thrown off the campaign trail/office and into isolation has diminished my drive to do much: cleaning, feeding myself, reporting all feel like massive undertakings.
Good morning from the biggest Lyft Line I’ve ever been in.
I’ll be on the

I suspect there may be a little malarkey.
I know it's a small victory but today is the first time I wore my hair naturally curly and down in the White House for the 5+ years I've been able to come on and off campus and, well, that feels like a very tiny bit of progress to me
I know a lot of people are mocking this headline, but being conscious of what to do when you anticipate depressive episodes is a very normal & common coping mechanism suggested by therapists. And may be lifesaving for some.
Pack up the snark and realize your impact.
Calling + texting sources (even to shoot the breeze) has done wonders. But boundary-less work time has its drawbacks.
Setting up small tasks like “empty out inbox” or “tidy up laundry” have helped me feel productive and human.
reading noncorona news (AV club, etc) helps
Protestors, with masks, being pushed back by the police on the north side of the White House while at least a thousand people congregate and mingle, most maskless, on the South Lawn.
A side by side image that I don't think I'll be able to shake for a long while.
Everything’s bigger in Texas, including worship service. This is just a taste of the grand scene inside First Baptist Church, where Mike Pence is set to speak any minute now.
TRUMP hits a popular CPAC dogwhistle -- a caravan of Canadian truckers who are currently protesting COVID mandates:
"We stand with the truckers. And we stand with the Canadian people."

Psaki says the White House is considering "many levers" including EAs, legislation, etc. for gun safety measures. No update on his opinion on the filibuster
A senior Biden campaign official tells reporters that the campaign has "not been in touch with Senator Sanders’ team" re: adopting his college affordability plan.
I know this isn’t the news of the day but I’m still in awe that Obama would go to The Atlantic and say rap music is all men talking about money and women as if...Flo Milli and Megan Thee Stallion and Nicki and Cardi and Doja Cat haven’t been dominating for the last year.

Gunn: "Andrew Yang is willing to discuss the tough issues our country is facing right now, instead of running from them, and come up with positive, unique, and excitingly revolutionary new ways to tackle the future."
If you are curious what it's like, or need some advice on how to get through this—especially if you're someone who suffers with some sort of mental illness—my DMS are always, always, always open.
Also, getting a test in Washington, D.C. was a generally low-stress experience for me and I hope that's replicated through other parts of the country soon.

: The Biden campaign launched a new ad today targeting military families in a dozen swing states, featuring a wounded veteran hitting Trump on alleged remarks disparaging members of the military.
"To paraphrase a frustrated President Lincoln, writing into an inactive General McClellan during the Civil War, 'If you don't want to use the army, may I borrow it?'"
Some reporters notebook stuff: Tonight is my first time on AF1 and I'd like to note that the staff are probably some of the kindest people I've encountered during campaign/reporting travel.
Biden's campaign is seeing strong fundraising and polling numbers, that can't be disputed. Yet one of their more vulnerable constituencies are college-aged voters. This other TikTok featuring the same "please don't make me vote for Joe Biden" tune has 48k likes.
