THREAD FOR DICK HOYT
Dick Hoyt died today. He was so nice to me when I started writing about heroes. So here is his story: When Dick and Judy Hoyt’s son was born with cerebral palsy, unable to walk or talk, the doctors told them to just “put him away.”
No, they decided.
My daughter amazes me — and not just because she got accepted to Penn last night. She is thoughtful, insightful, independent, the greatest gift-giver I know, & truly my unstoppable force. Philly, you just got the greatest gift on the planet. Proud every day to be your dad.
I’ll put my reputation up against yours any day. I’ve spent my entire adult life in service to my country. Upheld my oath to protect & defend this nation at great personal cost. You’ve demonstrated yourself to be a purveyor of hate and division. Let history be the judge.
THREAD FOR STAN LEE.
Stan Lee gave us more than co-creations X-Men, Iron Man, Hulk, Fantastic Four & Spider-Man. He gave us creeds to live by. Principles to emulate. Villains (and racism) to fight. He gave me vital cornerstones of my belief system. My sense of responsibility.
I’m hugging my 18 year old son to congratulate him on getting accepted to my alma mater, the

THREAD. I am utterly heartbroken at the loss of my friend Barbara Bush. She gave me one of the most amazing, rewarding, and unimaginable friendships of my entire life. When we first met, I was utterly intimidated by the raw power that came off her. I left thinking two things:
Leaving Barbara Bush’s funeral in Houston and LOVE that even now, she was still getting the best laughs.
She hugged AIDS patients when no one would. Helped homeless when it wasn’t politically right. Afraid of nothing.
Bet she’s still telling people what to do.

THREAD ON VOTING BILLS
My wife has worked on voter protection for over a decade here in Florida. Without question, the bill that Governor DeSantis just signed will make it harder for people of color, poor, elderly, and disabled people to vote. History is watching.
Mrs. Bush, thank you for what you've done for all those young readers out there. Thank you for empowering all those who needed to find their own power. And thank you for a friendship I will never forget.
THREAD FOR CJ
A few years back, the mother of a young autistic boy reached out to tell me that her son died and that her last good memory with him was reading our book, I am Albert Einstein, which is all about being different. Needless to say, we surprised

THREAD FOR GEORGE HW BUSH
This is how I met President George H.W. Bush. He wrote me a fan later saying he loved one of my thrillers, and could I sign a copy? Of course, I sent him a book. When we finally met,

LONG THREAD
History is an echo. You can hear it if you listen. So this post is for my kids. Every day, I write about history for a living – and it’s important to me that when they look back on these days, they know where I stood and can hear that echo.
Daughter just said to me: “Instead of killing half the population, why doesn’t Thanos just use the infinity stones and create double the resources?”
Problem solved.
I believe my work as a father is done.

#JULY4th
Here's the real story of the Declaration of Independence:
For 17 days, the thirty-three-year-old secluded himself in a rented room in Philadelphia.
On a small, portable desk, he began writing, laying the foundations of this new American government. Unlike

He’d run the race, pushing Rick’s wheelchair the whole way.
They finished next to last. It was a victory.
That night, Rick typed out these words: “Dad, when I’m running, it feels like my disability disappears.”
Dick’s mission was clear.
He kept running, Rick always out in front.
“Dad, can you get me a copy of Identity Crisis? I want to read it.”

Son just made my year.
This is Robert Peraza, kneeling at his son’s name etched into bronze at the 9/11 Memorial. It represents, to me, the pain and resiliency of that day — and in our country. And it sadly reminds me how much better we can be to each other in a time of crisis.

THREAD FOR FLIGHT 93
We owe the heroes of United flight 93.
We owe these forty men and women. We owe them personally.
“They’re talking about crashing this plane into the ground. We have to do something,” Thomas Burnett Jr. told his wife, Deena, on his cell phone.
Sad news: Our I am Billie Jean King book is now under review in Leon County after a parent complained. "I think it's sad," King said. “I'm very big on inclusion, everybody being their authentic self.” Let me add: This is a frivolous & meritless complaint.
Listen to this 100 year old woman. She and other people in Martin County know that if a library is filled only with books that you agree with, you’re in a terrible library. The best libraries are filled with ideas that challenge you.

Personally, I will forever use the lessons Stan Lee gave me: To fight for others. To use my creativity for good. And to know that with great power...comes this undeniable never-to-be-doubted incontrovertible fact: STAN LEE LIVES FOREVER.

THREAD ON TURNING 50
Today is my 50th birthday, and I’m feeling the tug of history...
I remember 13, when my grandfather died.
I remember 22, saving all my money for an engagement ring.
My friend who worked at Dover told me this and I’ll never forget it: Memorial Day isn’t a holiday — it’s a day we remember those who didn’t come home. Love and thanks to all our real heroes (and that includes their families too).

Today, that’s what I struggle with most. That we’ve lost our sense of good. Sure, we know how to fight. But if you’re just trying to win, and fight for nothing but yourself, or for power, well...you’ve already lost. He was so nice to me even in our small interactions.
Today would’ve been my Dad’s 77th birthday. Here’s the eulogy I wrote. He was hit by his dad (and my grandfather was a boxer). But he fought his way to something better. To understand me, understand him. Love you, Pop. Still feel so blessed to have you.
