Big leaguers work on their craft. You have to be obsessed with it. Reminds me of a saying: Amateurs practice until they get it right, Professionals practice until they canโt get it wrong.

Tip of the day!! A few things to unpack: 1. Timing with the glove load. The glove load to the ground should be early and smooth 2. The chest or hip press should be forward and compress to the ground creating clearance 3. As always

Tip of the Day! Early work progression. Main area of focus for this day was allowing the ball to travel and making the catch with flexion in the elbow. Went through progression then he executed in the game.

Blocking takeaways: regardless of stance focus should be on precision in the belly button, compressing, glove deep, chest angle, glove follows ball, chin tucked, shoulders rolled and exhale on contact. Gold Glover

Tip of the day! Eliminating the glove roll.

RKD blocking technique: 1. Front foot/heel has to have a spike in the ground to push laterally 2. Backfoot positioning (dorsi flexion) you will see back toe push up allowing the knee to lift and slide. Any other Backfoot positioning anchors the knee/leg down.

No Secrets. Pay attention to detailโฆit matters more than most people think. But in the moment be sure to learn and absorb information to fail forward.
Tip of the Day! Pick releases should be a part of every catchers work. Knee and foot alignment is a big component of lateral movement regardless of stance. With increased velo and spin this is a skill that can not be neglected.

You do not have to play pro ball to be a great coach! IMO great coaching is loving your players, being there for them good or bad, developing them on and off the field, being honest and a hunger to keep learning.

Iโll never claim to have been good enough. But Iโve had and will continue to have conversations with guys that reached that level to understand what it takes.

RKD Read and Reset to โshowcaseโstance for SB attempts. In RKD pull right knee up which resets to traditional. Important: When making this move the hips still need to stay underneath and not slide out when beginning footwork.

Blocking 101. Having an understanding of how certain pitches bounce off the ground lead to precision blocking. Pitches with top spin will kick up and pitches with backspin will stay down. Regardless of stance the fundamentals remain the same.

Many contest what is the most important skill of a catcherโฆ The most important part is not receiving, not blocking, not throwingโฆ The MOST important part of catching is the pitcher/catcher relationship and communication. It is a servant leadership position.

Tip of the Day! Pre-pitch Pressโฆ The press puts your eyes lower to the ground, puts you to endpoint of borderline strikes and creates clearance/reach. Cues 1. Chest press 2. Belly button/ab press. Key is to sink into the ground.

Stallings was the

blocker in MLB saving 1.4 runs. Freeze frame of block at point of contact. Top 3 blockers had different stances. Notice knees rarely get to ground at point of contact. Takeaways: glove follows ball, compressing to the ground, knee + foot alignment.

I owe a lot to Tom Kotchman. He taught me how to be a professional and how to be a man. My first Pro ball manager and the scout who signed me. More importantly a lifelong friend. Thanks Kotch.
MLB Scouts are the backbone of the game! They work on short term contracts. Most are underpaid. Spend countless nights on the road. Drive countless miles. Sacrifice time away from their families. Give a shoutout to an MLB scout who has helped YOU!
