International students. Your faculty are with you. So are the universities. Ask for workarounds this evil policy. We are smarter than ICE. Expect to be protected. This is our job as faculty and administrators.
There is no such thing as "sex with underage women." Underage women are girls who cannot legally consent. Why doesn't the NYTimes (and other papers) write the truth, Sex with underage women is really raping girls.
The attack on Dr. Cross is outrageous. In my qualitative research project, I have a boilerplate methods paragraph I insist all the authors use when describing the data collection process. It's the same data, I don't want it described differently in different articles!
Regarding allegations against Christina Cross: We, a group of scientists who lead public datasets (including PSID), wish to state that her discussion of PSID isn't plagiarism. Standard language to describe public data is, in fact, good scientific practice
We all knew it was coming. And yet I can’t stop crying. Women have lost full citizenship in the US, we no longer have a right to control our own bodies. And that is a prerequisite for even imaging in a world with gender justic and equality….
@amandadeibert
My grandmother was a jewish mail order bride from the old country in the early 20th Century. Got here, didn’t fancy the guy. Went to work in a factory to pay him back. Lived happily ever after.
Thrilled! Since our team
@Gend_Soc
began in 2020, impact factor has jumped from 3.7 to 5.5! Even better, we went
#21
(of 149) sociology journals to being
#7
! We jumped 14 places in the rankings in 3 years. Moved to
#2
from
#3
in Women's Studies. See next tweet in thread...
Excited to share that I am the in-coming editor at
@Gend_Soc
with amazing editorial team including

sheryll skaggs, smitha Radhakrishnan and Silke Aisenbrey
Good news!
@BuddyScarboro
& I have been awarded NSF grant to interview genderqueer/non-binary folks in 3 cities. We have a great team of non-binary grad student interviewers &
@JesseFaye05
as project manager. Got rejected 1st time around, so when at first you fail, keep trying!
My big news for 2019. I am launching Risman's Writing Retreats! First event next week in Puerto Rico. More coming in rural Illinois in the summer of 2019. Stay tuned!
The CDC mask guidance switched too fast without enough explanation and overlooks key sociological factors for indoor mask mandates—especially to protect workers and the immunocompromised. Better to have announced benchmarks—and kept it up just a bit more.
Down with Covid. Don't remember 4 days. Today mind clear although body still immobile. Put faith in tests with 50% false positive rates. Infected from dinner with family member who flew to visit. Infected someone else. CANCEL TDAY. via
@ConversationUS
Going to sleep tonight not knowing the winner. But deeply ashamed to be an American. How can this evil misogynist racist nationalist still have such support? So many American deplorables. Frightening
What a fabulous (academic) Mother’s Day present! Literally came today. Nothing like the joy of seeing a grad student’s great idea become a fabulous dissertation, inspire more research and then be born as a book! Congratulations
@pallavib
!
This is so so ridiculous. 2 parent families have always been supported by social policy. Policies trying to incentivize people to marry have failed miserably. Empirically, the rates of single parents have remained stable for decades....how can this once again be in the news?

@NYTimes
. This is a wake up call for a 4th wave of feminism. No man is a feminist if he doesn’t do his equal share of care work. Gender expectations must be tossed into dustbin of history! 1/2
Attended my last Publications Committee as Editor of Gender & Society. pleased to see my marvellous team’s success was noticed! Journal jumped from
#21
to
#7
in sociology under our watch. Best wishes for continued success to new Editors!
Important to know. But why folks is this in a column called "economic" when Sociologist Barbara Reskin wrote about it decades ago, and Sociologist
@EnglandPaula
is the first person cited? Economics pretends yet again to be sociology...
Congratulations to
@BuddyScarboro
on accepting a position at the University of North Texas as an Assistant Professor of Sociology
@uicsoc
Watch for his new research on how gender equality differs by US cities and why!
@MattGrossmann
I think we need to extend moral requirements to men equally sharing the family work not deny men parental leave. Shame men who do not do their share of childrearing.
So pleased to announce Buddy Scarborough, UIC alum, now at University of North Texas won the Southern Sociology Society’s Junior Scholar Award.

@SouthSocSociety
So very proud of

Is masculinity on your syllabus? Take a look!
Study finds gender bias in TA evals, as students in an online course who had the same TA gave that TA five times as many negative evaluations when they believed that the TA was a woman, as compared to when they thought the TA was a man.
Social media is a covid blessing. On bad days, too tired to read even a novel. Instead I scroll and doze. Thanks twitter friends. Makes the hard days easier.
I disagree that toys are pointlessly gendered. They are gendered to support a gender structure where girls learn to value themselves, and eachother, as objects of boy's gaze, and boys learn that girls are the "other" to whose beautiful bodies they are entitled..

Sage has opened up access to the Scarborough, Sin and Risman paper on Attitudes and the Stalled Gender Revolution. So now you can read it without access to a university library....journalists take note.

We are proud to announce that G&S’ Impact Factor has increased to 4.314 from 3.567. This is our highest IF ever! G&S ranks 3/44 in Women’s Studies and 20/148 in Sociology. Many thanks to our authors, reviewers, readers, and editorial board/team for your support and effort!

My first book ever translated! Now available from the University of Valencia Press in Spanish. Thanks to my colleagues in Valencia for making this happen, especially Arantxa Grau!
@lindsallemang
Kept my name. Think about symbolism of only woman in hetero relationship changing name, wife being secondary is constructed at the start. Gave child one LONG name of both names together with capital in the middle. With my name last. Name change has patriarchal history.
A doozie it was! Who can believe a speeh successfully replaced dancing. Thanks to

for a spellbinding talk on lower ed, black feminism, standpoint epistemology and student debt. With lots of laughs to help the medicine go down

Just taught my first ever online seminar and it went fine! Grad students from Netherlands, South Africa and Indonesia. So talkative I couldn't even get thru the content i'd prepared. It worked. Some tech glitches, still have to find out how to see 14 faces at once.

@politico
This is a GREAT thread....should accompany the video...and be used in classrooms. Simply, elegantly states the problem and explains the accurate framework. Thank you
@doc_thoughts
I feel the wind knocked out of me. Decades of feminist activism and now this. Hard to breathe. No Supreme Court as an arbiter of justice. Cry this weekend. Fight like hell after mourning....
Question: wage in veterinary science dropped as soon as women became more than half of the profession - how can we tackle the fact that low pay chooses women?

Happy Mother's Day to all who mother people in their lives, whether those are children, grandchildren, siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews, friends, co-workers or mentees. Mothering/parenting is nurturing; without nurture, nothing can grow. The world needs more of it.
Does imposter syndrome ever end? I am not too proud to admit terror about teaching a 2 week seminar for the Vu in Amsterdam next week online. Enjoy teaching in Amsterdam every summer live.. but remote? Terrified. First time ever online...
So thrilled. 3rd Edition of our edited text is out! Thanks to my coeditors

Announcing Handbook on Sociology of Gender! Amazing authors, cutting edge theory. Choose articles to use for undergrad courses. Perfect for grad students who want to have expertise in gender. Take a look, out this month, June 2018. Authors tag and RT!
And here I sit, wondering if scholars would rather receive a reject letter asap or wait until after the New Year...the moral dilemma of a journal Editor who uses the break to catch up....

In honor of Equal Pay Day,

showing that not only do we have a gender pay gap, we also have a gender benefit gap.
Wilcox gets it wrong again. Coontz doesn't say same-sex couples are better. She says people who don't have strong normative gender scripts work out relationships that are better as equals. For a relationship without male-dominance, look at same-sex couples for ideas.
There is no such thing as a anti-choice feminist. Feminism is a political struggle for women's rights and gender equality. Forcing anyone to giver birth is anti-feminist. Full stop.
Breaking News: The Delta variant is as contagious as chickenpox and may be spread by vaccinated people as easily as the unvaccinated, an internal C.D.C. report said.
Academic Writers: Are you interested in jump-starting your writing in 2022? In this column I offer strategies for those with intrinsic goals and some ideas for those of you who no longer care about the topic but still have to get it out of the door!
Anyone who has ever taken care of anyone else knows that without care infrastructure, no caretaker gets to work. Care infrastructure matters as much as roads.
Amplifying..... why would a white nationalist target Highland Park except because of it's high concentration of Jews. White nationalists don't consider us white....
