I keep a box of these books in my office to hand out to introverted trainees. You’ll spend your whole life being programmed to be the loudest person in the room. But some people do their best work in the quiet. This book changed my life. Thanks @susancain

If you are a recently matched medical student, I beg you to spend the next couple of months celebrating. Get married, climb a mountain, chase butterflies… whatever but do not worry too much about getting ready for residency. It will come.

you’re an IMG interested in surgery: - common residency path is prelim then match again (during intern year!) or your life becomes a lottery as you wait for spots to open up -you finish your residency and fellowship match complicated by program unfamiliarity with visas 1/3

I get asked a lot by med students whether being out and proud can affect their residency matching prospects Truest truth I know is that it’s ok to not match at a place that uses that against you. Their loss, your gain. A good program for you is a program that will welcome it

Attendings, pay attention to how folks in the hospital treat you when they don’t know you’re attendings. That’s how they treat your trainees. It can be an amusing confusion but it can also reveal that folks will only have manners it they think you have power.
