Career update 🥳
I am joining

I will continue to work on microbial mechanisms of soil carbon cycling & am happy to build new collaborations in Edinburgh/beyond.
ERC grant REJECTED
A real kick in the teeth. I thought the proposal was super cool. That's my 6th big grant rejection in as many years. I am tired of saying
#rejectionistherule
How are we supposed to get the most talented researchers to join our PhD programmes when the home office charges non-UK PhD students to the tune of £2500 for visa/heath surcharge?
Happy to announce that I’ll be joining
@aberdeenuni
as a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Biogeochemistry this autumn. Exciting times ahead as I start my research lab exploring the functional ecology of soil microbes. I’ll be looking for Masters/PhD students & Postdocs.
#newPI
I have 2 PhD opportunities in my lab for Oct '21 start. Application deadline: Jan '21
1. Eco-evolutionary responses of soil microbes to drought stress
2. Microbiome-mediated carbon sequestration in agri soils
More details 👇 as it comes.
Academia celebrates mobility. But we need to be aware that not everyone can afford it. Even if one can, it takes a toll on personal life. Friendships and relationships suffer and you entire social network disappears.

Need some luck because previous four attempts were unsuccessful (although they were independent fellowship applications).
I had to decline a keynote speaker invitation because I can't be bothered to apply for another visa only to attend a 4-day conference. Totally normal for an immigrant academic. 🫤
Paper abstract (सारांश) also available in Hindi. Its the first time I've translated my science in an Indian language. Thank you

Would be splendid if I am successful.🤞
