The reason I am where I am today is because I have always had a choice. Robbing women of the ability to make a choice (their right!!) forces them into lives they may not want. It robs them of identity. It robs them of power & agency. It robs them of opportunity & dignity.
A desert oasis in the Middle East, the architecture of Oman is suited to its different terrain, ranging from mountain houses to desert tents, coastal forts & mud houses. More than just practical, the architecture gives insight into Omani culture

: "Decades of research show that when women are empowered, countries are more secure and more prosperous. None of this happens if a girlโs reproductive rights and educational opportunities remain unprotected."
I know the power that a young girl carries in her heart when she has a vision and a mission โ and I hope that every girl who sees this cover will know that she can change the world. Thank you

Hearing a lot of comparisons to โthird world countriesโ & the Middle East. Or of people being so โsurprisedโ. No. Whatโs happening in the US today & the (lack of) response is rooted in white supremacist violence, it has been predicted by BIPOC for years and it is 100% American.
Thrilled to announce my selection as a

To highlight the scale & urgency, the confirmed death toll in Derna is now 11,300 people. That is expected to rise to 20,000.
9000+ are injured, 30,000+ are displaced and ~18,000 people missing.
That is in a city of a population of around 90,000.
Imagine, 75% of your city dead,
Mourning the loss of an incredibly powerful, committed and tireless advocate for women and girls. Her years of public service & personal sacrifice have changed the landscape of this country and the womenโs movement globally. Forever grateful.

โThe term โreligiousโ isnโt something that I really like...Too often, the connotation of โreligiousโ is someone who is very strict and focused on acts. I would say Iโm very spiritual, and I have a very strong faith.โ ๐๐ผ
The amount of conferences/companies that have reached out specifically about inclusion in the pandemic response & then tell me that โsince itโs an opportunity to highlight women of color in STEMโ they hope I would speak for free...
Yโall wouldnโt believe the emails. Top tier orgs/universities/brands asking me to speak. Especially now when I donโt have to travel, I guess they think Iโm running a discount. When my manager asks about an honorarium, they ghost her.
My brain isnโt free on Zoom.

Struggled for years to tell this story, as many others have. Still feeling scared and uncertain. But the voices of other women have given me the strength to speak out now. Iโm hopeful we can leave this shit in 2020.

I think itโs important to share this. To remind people that 1 million babies and kids are being starved, deprived of electricity and bombed in an open air prison.
These babies are the same age as my own and I canโt imagine that terror.
Language is the most powerful, most sustaining, & most impactful thing colonization & white supremacy have owned. It has shaped how we see ourselves, where we assume we belong & how we subconsciously categorize, 'other,' undermine & limit ourselves.

I moved to the US in 2000. Iโve learned that many white Americans have a delusional amount of confidence in their govt & its institutions.Theyโre childishly naive in believing institutions will save them from state power which they think will work for them

It's time we hold religious "leaders" & "scholars" who manipulate and promote exclusive, patriarchal & archaic interpretations of faith (for their own benefit) accountable.
