Today I walked from Navy Yard to Capitol Hill to NoMa to Truxton Circle to Logan Circle to Adams Morgan and, once again, it was clear that streateries are the key to so much vibrancy. They're not just cheerful and energizing, they also make streets feel safer as a pedestrian.

@SkipStrobelskip In densely populated urban and suburban areas, the default expectation should be that all streets are meant for peds, and engineers should need to prove when a street is an exception. Right now, we start from the assumption that streets are for cars and peds are secondary.

I support D.C. Statehood and home-rule – but I don’t support some of the changes D.C. Council put forward over the Mayor’s objections – such as lowering penalties for carjackings. If the Senate votes to overturn what D.C. Council did – I’ll sign it.

A decade in DC and I am currently standing in Metro Center trying to remember if I need Shady Grove or Glenmont. After existential angst, this is my most frequent inner torment.

Missing in the national dialogue: The extreme, outrageous, unjust financial, economic, social, etc. burdens that D.C. local government and residents are enduring as a direct result of treasonous federal politicians and federal corruption & incompetence. D.C. statehood NOW.

This public, pedestrianized space is going to be such a boon to overall livability and economic vitality and sense of community that we’ll wonder why we ever waited so long.
