What the Gundo guys have done this week is so much more than a hackathon. Guarantee that there are 1000s of founders-to-be across the country who now see the Gundo as a place to pilgrimage. If housing is cheap & capital isn't risk averse then SF might actually have competition.

Hackathons are mostly a waste of time. Basically nothing created there goes on to become a success (with undoubtedly a handful of exceptions). If there’s value there, it’s merely introducing future co-founders to each other, with the hackathon being a selection filter.

The most successful robots ever created are dishwashers and washing machines. They have sensors, actuators, and control and thus are robots. Fight me.

Today I had a chance to talk 3D printing with the first class of kids taking part in @space4girls_USA ’s cube-sat project. What first started in a @StepsLeaps room on @Clubhouse is now helping kids design the next era of spacecraft!

Why I’m happy one of our first units is making toys: The US is the world’s largest toy market, accounting for 40% of the plastic used in the whole toy industry. Every toy our unit makes from local recycled plastics is progress. We decouple consumption from environmental damage.

Three students joined our “Space Industry In The Middle East” room this morning and said “there are no space college programs in my country, so I made my own major and now I study space.” People busting down doors to push humanity to the stars > any amount of coffee.

@mattparlmer A further distinction if one is for or against other branches of humanity pursuing a different course. I don’t care if someone wants to go live in a cabin to live out the 16th century ideal as long as they don’t work to condemn billions to suffer through the stunting of science.
