You can get society used to anything. With all the present and past twitter outrage, the fact that country isn’t on fire is an indictment on us. I don’t know why the question “how many more kids will it take?” is directed everywhere except a mirror.

I wish the @January6thCmte committee would have focused on white grievance as much as the 1875 committee, but the committees had different aims. One thing is certain: the 1875 committee was right about its findings on white supremacy and white grievance. We should listen.

It is striking that some people are saying “students are not learning” as a way to criticize the student protest on college campuses. Dare I say, they had to “learn” something to take a position and protest? PROTEST CAN BE AN EXHIBITION OF STUDENT LEARNING!

This essay from @aeconwright on the corporatization of anti-racism discussion and white-centrism of authors like Robin DiAngelo is 🔥🔥🔥. So many good points that I hope he does a thread on it. Please read and follow him.

So @KingJames is it possible to shut down the @NBA @NFl until gun control legislation passes? What if we find away to shut the country down, impact the economy the way it was during quarantine but for gun control? They don’t care about kids but they do care about money.

@thomaschattwill Thanks for sending that tweet over. I don’t think it was there when I was responding. If it was, sorry I missed it. The fact that the country is too violent is a criticism that feels much more important than the framing of the story. But let’s say we set that aside. What is the

@Texaggie79 @thomaschattwill I think we disagree on the thoughtfulness of the insight. Lester said “he saw a Black male” at the door and shot. I think there is an element of the critique that’s being offered is part of a larger critique of so-called “wokeness.” Help me out: what is the insight you pulled

I feel like @davidfrum is leaving out the larger implications of the harms: doing what is right and intended in the constitution is harmful because the United States is living under the tyranny of the threat of white supremacist mobs. It’s pretty ironic given the 14th.

@nhannahjones The crazy thing about that argument is that it shows how extensive African slavery/anti-Blackness is! Anyone who makes this argument is saying: the entire world was in agreement that the enslavement of Black people was okay.

I hate it when people make these analogies. The NFL combine is nothing like a slave auction. I really don’t see how anyone could ever make this comparison. This is intellectually dishonest and completely obscures what slavery and a slave auction was.

@imispgh @MotherJones Thanks for that feedback. It’s difficult to navigate b/c a sentence that one person loves can be a sentence that another person hates. IMO, it had to be long because the concept needed context. Although I see your point, I think it’s okay for readers to do *some* work.

Imagine feeling the need to both-sides a racist massacre. You lost it when you no longer have the ability to condemn a white nationalist murdering Black people and leave it at that. Just appalling.

U.S. mental health so depends on Black death that the 2015 murder of Jeremy Mardis, a white six-year-old, didn’t rouse American consciousness into fierce protest, unlike the murders of Tamir Rice or Emmett Till, @aeconwright writes.

There is an article in the Atlantic. I’m not linking to it b/c I’m not in the mood to dismantle it point by point. Just know that there are many synonyms for anti-Blackness. “Anti-racialism” is one of them.

I realized white ppl and Black ppl have different demands. Different needs. Different political agendas but Black ppl’s political lives are mainly legible through a white lens. What if I don’t want DEI training and want the end of my company, capitalism, or the end of the world?

@barna_teri @marclamonthill So… I don’t want to entertain your comment too much, but you’re making a very basic error here that needs to be addressed: things that are “made up” ie social constructs have REAL consequences. Race is indeed a social construct but slavery based on race was very real.
