I'm sitting next to a Lincoln impersonator at the airport bar. He's watching MSNBC reporting on yesterday's assassination attempt. This is easily the most surreal thing I've ever witnessed.
@brockwilbur
"THE BEST PART, connected to the home is a 2500 sq ft legitimate jail with 9 cells, booking room and 1/2 bath."
I have never once considered an on-site jail to be the "best part" of a house.
Oh hey, who's that on the cover of this month's issue of
@TheFastPitch
? It's only
@Dastmalchian
! (It's also someone's first-ever cover story, so you know, there's that, too 😏)
Well kids, if you see OPPENHEIMER on film, make sure it's been run at least one time by someone who knows what they're doing. Issues at my screening were as follows:
A studio rep I met at
@TIFF_NET
told me she was at a red carpet event once when she felt this glowing presence behind her. It was Chris Hemsworth. She told me it felt like he exuded a gravitational pull, like a planet, which I 100% believe.
@AlishaGrauso
@baddestmamajama
The fact that I had BOTH of these songs on a burned CD mix along with Death Cab's Transatlanticism tells you everything you need to know about my millennial status.
So hey.
@brockwilbur
and I have been working like mad on this story for the last month. I am so so grateful to all the current and former employees who spoke with us. You all have guts of steel. This is a big deal, I hope you read it.
Since its opening in 2012, the Kansas City branch of Alamo Drafthouse Theaters has let abuse and harm fester. Over 30 current and former Drafthouse employees—from local servers to corporate leaders—are now speaking up.
So hey, I know we're all very (rightly) upset by the Mondo news. However, this is a great time to seek out and support the many places that also do quality pop culture art and poster work! A brief thread:
So, it's official: I'M WRITING A BOOK, Y'ALL!!!!
I'm working with IVP on Silver Screen Liturgy, a guide to movies to watch through the church year. It's based on my article series for
@thinkchristian
. Watch this space for more developments ❤
Good morning! I wrote about Macbeth in the context of the Coen bros. oeuvre for
@ebertvoices
, and I'm very proud of how it turned out! You should read it.
When we talk about Jesus calling himself the good shepherd, we never discuss the aptness of that metaphor in the sense that sheep are massively dumb and scare easily.
F9 is the most movie there's ever been. I saw it in a full theater. We laughed. We cried. We cheered. I loved every ridiculous second with my whole heart.
Almost exactly a year ago I was rushing to finish my manuscript over labor day weekend while simultaneously calling friends to borrow coolers and ice packs because my fridge was busted.
My fridge works now. Also my book is here 😁
Saw
@sparksofficial
tonight in KC and had a literal out-of-body experience. Highlights include meeting a self-identified teenage "Sparkie" (Swiftie and Sparks fan) who made friendship bracelets of all the albums to give away.
-Screen improperly sized for the aspect ratio so there was a black bar at the top of the screen
-No sound for the first 5 minutes, no ability to restart the film
-Hair over the projector for the second 5 minutes
-Film briefly cut out halfway through before starting up again
I'm sure all of this had to do with inexperienced kids who are just used to pressing a button on a digital projector. It's not really their fault, though it made for a less than great experience.
This looks like a promo photo for a gritty cop show I would a million percent watch. J-Lo is the veteran who's fought for respect. R-Patz is a privileged upstart who's eager to prove himself. This spring on HBO.
@Ceilidhann
For all its problematic-ness, it's been pretty amazing to experience Game of Thrones, if only because I'm fairly certain we won't get TV like it again for a long time.
@thecherness
A Knight's Tale is very much not good, but I've loved it since eighth grade, so much so that I actually worked it into a (pretty solid) lesson plan when I taught English abroad.
@danblackroyd
Watching THE MUPPETS with my dad, and looking over at the family next to us during "Rainbow Connection," to see the little girl sleeping on her dad's shoulder. Still gets me choked up!
We promoted
@nuthousepunks
and
@abbyolcese
to department editors. Now
@brockwilbur
doesn't have to tell all the freelancers that the reason they can't go to Rage Against The Machine is because he claimed the tickets. Always good to have new blood to blame.
Watching Happy Death Day 2 U, and boy is Jessica Rothe gleefully jumping into a wood chipper only to wake up and do it all again a great metaphor for 2020.
Today marks one year since I saw my real estate agent get astoundingly drunk at a bar and then miraculously show up sober to help me close on my house the next day.
Netflix shareholders declined to support a proposal affirming the pay packages for top executives during a vote at the company’s annual shareholder meeting on Thursday
Watching The Muppet Christmas Carol for the first time since my childhood, and I've already giggled twice, squealed three times and said "I love you" to two muppets, so it's going WELL.
Looking for more great martial arts action after 'Snake Eyes'?
@abbyolcese
on why you need to make the excellent series
#Warrior
(now on HBO Max) your next binge watch:
I saw the USPS guy approaching with my
@SuperYakiShop
package, and leapt up from my chair yelling "MAIL!" to meet him at the door. May you all experience that same level of excitement.
Hello! I haven't been on here in a bit, but am breaking my self-imposed Twitter break to let you know that pre-orders are live for my book, FILMS FOR ALL SEASONS! I'm very excited!
Years from now, some animation wunderkind will win the Oscar for best animated feature and say ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE was what made them want to do it. Great googly moogly, what a movie.
Today is my grandpa's birthday. He was, at various times, an honest-to-god hobo, a WWII pilot, a photographer, a creative father and a classic grandfather. He loved pie, and had a wicked sense of humor, as evidenced here (in true Ike fashion, he staged and took this himself).
Weirdly, this was a big year professionally. I started as film editor at The Pitch, had my first piece at Ebert, and wrote my first investigative piece.
I started co-hosting a podcast, did two dream interviews and a TEDx talk. Much to be thankful for.
Hi, just a quick nice thing: my dad retired today from an incredible 35 year career working with international students. His friends and colleagues surprised him with a drive by parade, beer and well-wishes.
Me fuming over digital festival nonsense: Do I even like movies anymore? Do they even matter?
Also me, after seeing a millisecond of Matrix preview footage:
