Baby boomers never built up a next generation of leaders under themselves, in part because they could not bear the thought of any of their successors outshining or even equalling them.
Too many middle class Republicans will spend $1000/month on a truck they can't afford, but wouldn't pay $100/month to make their town a world class place to live in.
What is the average person supposed to think of his statement by the former head of the CIA, who used to oversee targeted killings of people in Al-Qaeda, etc? Beyond inappropriate.
Elon Musk successfully getting rid of 80% of Twitter employees was a watershed moment. It proved how much of our highly paid corporate employment base is simply unneeded bloat. That's true even if you dislike Musk or think he cut too deeply.
Why do men turn to online influencers instead of the church? One reason is that evangelicals promote a vision of masculinity that is so bleak and unappealing it turns men off. They sum this up under the heading โservant leadershipโ
Properly defined, I believe servant leadershipโฆ
The big difference in "middle class" costs today is the need to purchase insulation from growing American dysfunction. There are simply fewer functional, socially, economically & physically intact places to live today than there were in the 1980s & the ones that exist are $$$.
Chicago has the best quality/price ratio for genuine urbanism in America right now. I don't think anyplace else is even close. Despite its problems it will continue to be a big draw for young Big Ten types grads.
It's very obvious that some things are getting worse in our society, appliances being one of them. Federal mandates and a fetish for tech have shortened their life. We need basic, durable models back.

It's impossible to overstate the extent to which conservative evangelicals are anti-men. Liberals, feminists, etc. are vastly to be preferred to these people.
In their world, men are 100% to blame, 100% of the time.

Women initiate the vast majority of divorces - about 70%. While the reasons for this can be debated, one thing that is clear is that you won't learn this basic and well established fact from a Christian pastor.
It's just struck me recently just how many good Christian guys I know who are either divorced or in the middle of a divorce they didn't want. And in some cases, their churches didn't have their back. I don't draw manospherian conclusions from this, I just observe.
One of the dirty little secrets of many of these global city urban evangelical churches is that they are supported by out of town money. The poor are subsidizing the rich and elite. Then those elites pull the the evangelical world in directions at odds with the base.

My latest asks what it is American conservatives want to conserve. They all support the basic American political tradition. But beyond that there are three rival visions: social conservatism, cultural conservatism, and bourgeois values.
Our leaders take the best of our young people - patriotic, with a mindset of service - and send them off to die in what are essentially imperial missions of little direct relevance to them or their families or their hometowns. No American kid should be dying in Jordan.

This is one of the many techniques used to manipulate men. It uses a false dichotomy between "self-sacrificing" or "selfish." In this schema, men have no legitimate interests of their own and are purely instruments to be sacrificed for other people.
Nothing better attests to creeping third worldization in America more than declining power reliability. The growing number of people who feel compelled to install generators is a negative societal indicator.
Along with declining electricity reliability, our inability to maintain water infrastructure is another sign of third worldization in America ("Don't drink the water").
